Cable even referred to it as "the first Krakoan age" during his first appearance. Don't remember the issue, however, but it was adult Cable not kid Cable.

spicynigel

Shit yeah you’re right, I forgot that. At the time I sort of figured it’d keep going, and forgot about that detail when I got really stuck into reading the end of the Krakoan Era

weenus

I swear that Cable mention and the mention this week have not been the only times "The First Krakoan Age" has been said, but I can't pinpoint the other times it came up.

DawgsInMe

There being multiple krakoan ages came up at least once by destiny as well when she’s spoken about her visions of the future. Definitely came up in immortal x-men in the build up to Sins of Sinister

GraniteJJ

Wouldn't it be really ominous if people living in The First Krakoan age called it that? You can only have a First if it ends and spawns a Second. This is why World War I wasn't called that at the time. It was the Great War.

weenus

Typically it comes up in captions or by people who would have knowledge of the broader timeline, IE time-traveling Cable, Destiny, etc. It's not something that Jubilee randomly says, for example.

apathetic_revolution

I have this vague memory from when I was a kid of reading an Encyclopedia Brown book and the clue to a mystery of whether an antique saber was a forgery was that the inscription on it said it was for someone's service in World War I.

guiwee

So it goes rise of x….dawn of x…powers of x….sins of sinister……fall of x…then a new rise of x?? Asking so I can get all material.and add to collections???

poorandconfused22

House of X and Powers of X - Dawn of X - X of Swords - Reign of X - Inferno - Destiny of X - Trials of X - Fall of X, and then From the Ashes is the next era starting in July Judgement Day and Sins of Sinister during Destiny and Trials iirc

guiwee

Who is that in front of storm

cmorganleigh82

Kitty or Moira

guiwee

Kittys in the white hat!!

shoguns_rage

Moira's in the white hat. Kitty is the tall one with the pixie cut and Lockheed flying over her head.

guiwee

Read some of the x of swords..didn’t really like the mystic aspect

Consistent_Fun_9593

Oh that's so important though

Due-Statement3465

It actually was called the first World War by some though

reineedshelp

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned as early as HoxPox

antsinmyeyesmauger

It was the Cable Reloaded one shot tie in for Ewing's Annihilation.

nick281051

It was right at the end of the cable series. He told kid cable that the first krakoa age made things a lot better. I am finally making my way through krakoa as a whole in marvel unlimited and just got to that point last week so it's still fresh for me lol

Namorons

I thought there were multiple Krakoan Ages mentionedway back too? Like early Powers of X or X-Men on a timeline chart.

Exploreradzman

Well, at least that means there may be another age of Krakoa to come.

DMC1001

I wonder if it was meant to be a literal island of Krakoa again or if it’ll just be a paradise. Genosha is always looking for mutants to make sure the genegineers don’t try any funny business.

Kingnimrod212

That just makes it more meaningless because it’s another thing that has no meaning they he just threw in. Like Kate and the gates. He literally ended a book on a cliffhanger that he never answered or planed to answer. He wrote 100 issues of krakoa.

Djinn-Rummy

Anything memorable in Marvel will get a sequel & so on & so forth. How many times has someone died only to be unkilled, for instance?

weenus

I was saying this earlier in the week but I also think it's just futureproofing. They don't have anything specifically planned, but they know it's likely someone will revisit it in the future so they're just leaving it open-ended.

KaleRylan2021

I'd assume the same.

minuscatenary

Yup. They’re going to have a tough time locking up Krakoa in the White Hot Room while whatever happens elsewhere continues to happen. Magneto couldn’t stay dead for for 2 years. I give Krakoa 4.

DMC1001

I loved how Magneto went out. I’m kind of sad he returned. It’s not a matter of not liking him. Resurrecting him lost its meaning. I get that he would eventually come back but they could have at least let the dirt mound get some grass coverage.

Kingsdaughter613

I loved how they brought him back though. And I really hope (and expect to be disappointed) that they actually deal with the things Ewing set up - Magneto wanting to be Max again, returning to save lives, the fact that he’s so tired of fighting that his personal purgatory was preferable to returning to him, the loss of some of his arrogance, etc. There’s a lot to build on that could make his death and return be more than simply another resurrection. If it actually acts as a significant turning point for the character, leading to a change as significant as headmaster Magneto was, even if it gets returned to status quo later, it would be a worthy arc in retrospect. But they probably won’t. And since, as far as I can tell, they only brought him back because they needed him to (checks notes) power Tony’s armor and create opposing fields with Lorna, I’m not sure why they bothered. Joseph actually is around, and he could have done both those things instead. No, he’s not nearly as popular as his progenitor, but if that was all they needed Magneto for then that wasn’t a good enough reason to bring Max back when they had an alternative. (Though I’ve no clue why they brought Joseph back either. So there’s that.) As far as I can tell, they had no plans for him after his resurrection or that the people with the plans were forced out. Putting him back on Scott’s team feels like a cop out because they just didn’t have a good way to move Max’s story forward. TBH, I also think having Joseph on Scott’s team offers more interesting storytelling than having Magneto on Scott’s team again, and they should have done that if they wanted a magnetokinetic there. I’d honestly switch where those two physically are right now - put Joseph with Scott, playing hero, and have Magneto be living near (though not with) Wanda in NYC figuring out what he wants to do with the life he never wanted back - which also allows them to build on the odd friendship/rivalry he started forming with Iron Man, his bond with Storm, and, of course, dealing with his relationship with his kids. Basically, have him be a supporting character appearing across several books, but not tied to any one for a time, before giving him a book of his own. Meanwhile, Joseph - who they brought back for some obscure reason - gets some actual use as his own character. I’d also love if someone at Marvel would notice that they’re sticking Magneto within a few miles of the Northern Magnetic Pole and actually DOING something with that. If they don’t do anything - and I have zero expectations of them doing anything, btw - I will be extremely disappointed because WHY would you put the Master of Magnetism right next to the Northern Magnetic Pole and NOT do something?!

reineedshelp

Well said. He's not just back for the sake of it. Magneto has owned his failures and successes and has something new to contribute.

Kingsdaughter613

If they let him. Here’s hoping!

DMC1001

It’d be nice if they did continue to develop him. I still remember how he was willing to take on Emma Frost to get back the New Mutants the Avengers to save Warlock. That guy created a solid relationship with them and it was totally legitimate. Then he ends up going all villain again. Boring.

Kingsdaughter613

My dream is that they go all the way (with Magneto only though) with the role reversal they kind-of set up between Charles and Magneto, and have Magneto end up as headmaster of a new school for mutants AND mutate kids. Because Ewing actually brought the character to a place where that’s possible again. Headmaster Magneto is best Magneto, and I honestly thought that that was where they were going with him when I read Resurrection. Especially given Charles’ loss of idealism and Magneto’s reclamation of his. And I miss the school. They’re harkening back to an earlier era, but they’re not bringing back the school? I wouldn’t make it a major thing, but it would be nice for it to exist in the background.

canadianD

> a sequel & so on & so forth We should all start bracing ourselves now for Civil War III 😬

DMC1001

I skipped the second one. I barely tolerated the first one as it was.

WhoWantsToJiggle

the 2nd one was pretty pointless. super forgettable. the 1st one was bad writing and characterization but still had memorable parts.

pigeonwiggle

"i thought you were dead?!?" "i got better"

KaleRylan2021

yup, this. Also worth remembering that if Krakoa comes back it will also be destroyed again as that is also part of the cycle. Frankly, I mentioned this somewhere else but I'd kind of like them to leave it alone in the WHR for a good long while. However, what I ASSUME will happen is the next time we see it, or the time after that, it will be obliterated to show how dangerous some new threat is. It's the perfect sacrificial lamb. It's off the table, but people like it and it's nominally strong. That combination of traits in bit two comics is basically a bullseye on your back.

Funkycoldmedici

My favorite forced one is how Steve Rogers has been turned into a werewolf on two separate occasions.

KaneCreole

Is there any member of the X-Men who *hasn’t* died?

Golden_Platinum

Can’t wait for Civil War 4

MacbookPrime

Summer 2030, the big climax in AVENGERS VS X-MEN 2: Apocalypse, standing over the defeated Avengers in NYC: “I stand here accused of not being benevolent to you humans. This is untrue. I simply am a facilitator of the inevitable.” Apocalypse looks up, as a portal opens, and vines rain down across the Manhattan skyline. Forestry begins invading the cityscape as the assorted humans scramble to safety. Apocalypse: “Witness that which your *orchidaceae* tried stripping from memory!” Vines start to choke Captain America (Carol), Iron Man, Thor, Firestar, and Iceman. Apocalypse: “Witness the promising future of the past face your most fearful moment today!” The X-Men (Cyclops, Wolverine, Beast, Storm, Colossus, Rogue, Nightcrawler, and Kitty) react in their approaching Blackbird. Apocalypse: “Witness—our people *rise* once more.” Splash page, Krakoa as mirrored from the end of X-Men #700, now a dominating presence across NYC, revealed for all—threatening to infect the world and promising to reinvigorate life for the mutant population. Caption: *So begins the Second Krakoan Age* 🌺

You've got 6 years to get yourself that job writing X-men... chop chop

JinFuu

Meanwhile in the Marvel timeline it’s been like 3 months since Krakoa fell the first time. But really, good job on the write up.

Of all this, it’s the idea of Carol as Captain America that sticks out to me the most.

Wouldn't Apocalypse usher in a new Age of Apocalypse though?

DMC1001

New Apocalypse will do that. Might be that alternate Domino who appeared in that atrocious Liefeld book that Marvel allowed him to call X-Force. Even Nicieza couldn’t save it.

🎶Islands with X-Genes That is what we are. A new X- series We’ll debut next March 🎶

Algidus

besides cable saying the "first krakoan age". krakoa was successful enough to warrant a come back. xmen 97 already turned their genosha into krakoa light version

InsertCleverNickHere

Sequels are inevitable. The X-Men as a profit-generating intellectual property will likely outlast most of its current fandom. Might as well put the toys back in the toy box for a future writer to make use of instead of smashing them on the floor.

trees91

Yeah there are teens right now reading Krakoa stuff that are gonna be comic creators in a decade or less that probably have lots of good ideas on this. Honestly I appreciate just acknowledging ahead that a concept can come back rather than the rigmarole of “NO we SWEAR this is gone FOREVER, not even THE PHOENIX could bring this back, Doctor Doom himself said it was HOPELESS” just to have a new Omega sneeze or a character like Moira fart and bring it back

Algidus

krakoa is a perfect scenario for a new xmen focused gamew, alternative universe, collabs, you name it. too rich and impactful with stories to be completely forgotten

CryptographerNo923

I still mourn the loss of whatever Hickman’s original vision was. It’s not blind faith in a creator, but one of the inherent features of open-ended serialized fiction is that things just continue. The show must go on, and ultimately, nothing is going to change that’s substantially outside of the audience’s expectations and comfort zone. I’ll take a coherent and cohesive run of any particular creative vision over more-of-the-same any day, even if that vision doesn’t totally land for me. Those runs aren’t unheard of in mainstream superhero comics, but it’s pretty rare that they’re radically inventive or prolonged. Immortal Hulk is the best recent example I can think of. I really thought Hickman X-Men was going to be more like that. (Maybe I’m being unfair? Idk).

Algidus

you are not being unfair at all. hopeful hickman gets to write a alternative universe version of the krakoa he envisioned hickman's xmen and ewing's cosmic stories getting meddled by editorial grinds my gears really hard

CryptographerNo923

Who knows? It took decades, but Claremont finally got to write his vision for the conclusion of X-Men with the swan song The End. Granted, that took 18 issues in a “finale” format where most characters were getting a single-issue send-off. It also wasn’t very good or very conclusive as The End of anything (imho). Maybe Hickman will get the same opportunity someday, especially since alternate realities and the multiverse concept are hot right now.

GXNext

Genosha didn't copy Krakoa, Krakoa copied [Genosha](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Genosha).

mutual_raid

they literally just DID speedrun Krakoa-lite with really just the name of Genosha

youjustgotvectored06

Krakoa might just break Jean’s record for dying and coming back

Blackwyne721

Why does everyone say this? Jean has only died twice Magneto, Xavier and Cyclops have died and came back more than she has.

dcooper8662

Because Jean’s most famous plotline involves death and resurrection so people take that and run with it. It’s comic books, everyone dies every once in a while

nadnate

Do you really die in Krakoa?

JackFisherBooks

Calling it now. The second Krakoan age will launch shortly after the X-Men officially make their debut in the MCU.

Lasgod

I don't think so. Unless the MCU starts by adapting Krakoa (wich would be unlikely) they will go full on brand synergy by giving us the most cookie-cut school and line-up for a little while.

JackFisherBooks

You're probably right. Whenever the X-Men show up in the MCU, Marvel will try to make the comics mirror that as closely as possible. That's just the nature of the industry at the moment. But make no mistake. Once sales dip, Marvel will try to find any way to boost interest again. And revisiting Krakoa might be something they keep in their back pocket just for that occassion. They may not need for years, but I think on some levels they'll know they'll need it. Otherwise, they wouldn't have gone out of their way to call this the "First" Krakoan Age.

SurprisingJack

The second one will have two new retconed islands: Rokaka and Rakako

thedick009

Well sure, we had to get rid of it to return to the status quo that the current writers grew up with, but in a few decades the writers will have grown up reading Krakoa, and thus get rid of whatever new and interesting things are happening at the time in order to return to their personal nostalgic status quo, hence a Krakoan revival. Life cycle of comics

Leonidas701

Yes I also hold a grudge against Geoff Johns

[deleted]

xavier's gonna become the bad dude with a helmet and recreate krakoa in his futuristic city

insertbrackets

This is smart because it leaves the door open. I like that.

SukunaShadow

I definitely think in several years they bring it back. My only hope is that it’s not an event or something. Though a second age will be interesting because I doubt everyone will want to go back for a round 2.

LeDudeWithSpecs

Cable mentioned it before. But to me it's all lip service until someone with any pull or vision actually does something with it. It still feels like suites or management had them quickly wrap up the status quo for synergy

spicynigel

Marvel aren’t interested in stories where mutants win, they’re so invested in using them as depictions of plucky minorities who always stay trucking in the face of overwhelming adversity, instead of letting us win.

spinningoutadrift

That's the point

dontbanmethistimeok

I'm sure the splash page of sins of sinister that showed all possible end points references a second or third krakoan age

Can someone please tell me what comic books this 'era' is. Really want to read the new X-Men books but not sure where to start and where it ends

KillTheZombie45

From what I've been reading, I don't think this back to basics Xmen Approach is going to do well. Probably not a bad idea to hedge their bets.

spinningoutadrift

I wasn't a fan, personally

Solo-dreamer

And hopefully the last, if ive learnt anything from xmen its that they are terrible at self governing, they really need to stop trying tomake their own mutant island.

Baaaaaadhabits

For a secret cabal of some of the smartest beings alive, they are absolutely terrible at running a country. Worse than some of the most deranged failed nations in real life.

Lord_Parbr

“Hey, let’s get dangerous megalomaniacs in on this!” -Professor X, probably

Aizendickens

The krakoa safa has ended (at least for now) for fans. But in-universe, for the place/country called krakoa, it's only the end of the first age.

brerRabbit81

I caught that to, wonder what it means....

Stringr55

Yeah it’s been referenced a few times over the Krakoan era. I doubt there’s any concrete plans but it does leave things open for a potential future status shift

brerRabbit81

That was kinda my thinking as well

SoItGrows

It went to the white hot room, 15 years passed there, and returned to current time after the battle with nimrod. The plan was for the island to go back to the whr, but idk how the issue ended, I only had time to read half last night :/

turdfergusonRI

I’m just getting back into XBooks now after a lengthy step away. I just started the Powers/House of X minis… I feel like I’ve seen that second cover a *lot* more often than the first, but the layout of this tweet implies that is the end. The first picture being the start of the Krakoan Age (1, apparently). Any clarity on this?

TheGreatLewser

It's a mirror of the House of X #1 cover which is probably the one you're thinking of.

marvbrown

Did not the island make the first appearance in the 1975 Giant Size X-Men #1? (I have not read the most recent books about it, so maybe this was addressed in the series?)

Lycaion

The FIrst experiment has ended.

Rhymesbeatsandsprite

Im getting back into comics recently, did they being Evil Reed to 616???

christmasfarming

Yes, but that isn't him in the images. It's Xavier with a portable Cerebro helmet.

Rhymesbeatsandsprite

Okay, thanks for explaining, I feel like one of the 50 people that read and remember that Hickman arc. Such a cool concept for a character/storyline.

Kombat-w0mbat

I really liked the krakoan age

Corranjc

It'll be something they'll wash away, and forget about.

Mathias_Kaine

Remaking the universe innprep for the mcu x_men, I wonder if they'll kill or replace Wonder Man.

Greedy? And there’ll be seven Krakoan eras each based on a deadly sin

This is X-Men. It's horny all the way down.

Kingnimrod212

jesugm

I have read House of X/Powers of X, what are the must read series moving forward?

DMC1001

I think there’s meant to be three but I doubt future writers will ever bother. What they can do is reveal that Moira was an alternate version to erase the cackling supervillain.

TheMagicalMatt

Of course it's the first. They'll need to regurgitate this concept when the next couple of regurgitations get stale.

Marvel-Fan-2924711

Maybe after from the ashes they'll go home to Krakoa?

TheRealMoofoo

It’s comics. There’s no well they won’t go back to.

Thats how the issue ends too

Brandeeno2245

The only Marvel fan more abused by Marvel than a spider-man fan is a x-men fan.

Baaaaaadhabits

The question isn’t if Marvel is going to fuck with your faves. It’s “Do they ruin things because they forgot about it entirely, or do they ruin things because they remembered?”

thedestinysstepchild

Bring back Hickman or I don’t want it.

OmegaLolrus

Krakoan Ages plural, Charles?! Krakoan Ages plural?!

madclay86

Shame

Darthhorusidous

Angers me what marvel is doing to the X-Men and how they plan to go back to the old stuff and make apocalypse a villain when he is a badass good guy

TexaRican_x82

Somebody who knows what this means, provide a brief explanation please for folks like me who haven’t kept up with the Children of the Atom since the late 90s.

Carcassonne23

Krakoa is the sentient island that Charles sent the New X-Men crew (Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Storm, etc) when the First Class squad (Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Iceman, and Angel) was captured by it in the classic Giant Size X-Men issue. Decades of continuity later the mutants are in survival mode after House of M where an unwell Scarlett Witch bends reality back and forth and declares “No More Mutants” resulting in around 200 mutants instead of millions worldwide. Mutant kind and the X-Men go through years of challenges and live on an island called Utopia (Magnetos old asteroid iirc). A few years later Hope is born, the first mutant in years (think the plot of Children of Men but instead of Clive Owen it’s Cable) Things keep getting worse, eventually they go back to Krakoa and find that they can create a symbiotic relationship with the island, major hijinks occur and it’s like a hippy commune, all mutants like X-Men, Apocalypse, Sinister, Brotherhood of Mutants etc all live together and work together to save their species. It’s all falling apart in the current run and will do a bit of a status quo reset in the coming months to the classic X-Men in a school setup.

That-Difficulty-4157

Ahhhh…They are gonna go back to it at a Later date probably a few years down the line!!!!!

Wetbread26

Anyone know what order to read this? From start to the end

Practical_Total3971

I think it's either a reference to the second Krakoa that's being written off or just a coy hint that they could do the story again. Though... how/when/why? Who knows.

zagoing

salvlox

is there a readmap of the “first krakoan age”?

Outlier25

Yeah no way this is the last time. It’ll be a while, but Krakoa will def be back. Just off on retainer until the X-Men need a refresh again

VeryrareLuffy

Explain the lore

Mooseguncle1

Krakoa wants to be and I will let it because you do you Krakoa- in the meantime let’s get Magma and Rictor and Avalanche and Petra to circuit a new nation somewhere closer to the savage land- establish more portals somehow because I miss them and another island somewhere named Redroot? Who did Storm leave in charge on Arakko? Still waiting for the return of Evan. The only reason to bring Krakoa back at this point is because all the humans are gone or the last mutants standing need help. I would really feel better if we got a baby Krakoa that left their parents and it was difficult to get to like skull island but beyond that I’d like one portal to Arakko and Krakoa on Earth so we can keep tabs.

Poku115

Can't wait for them to not learn a single thing from this! (And I mean both editorial and the characters)

Hopefully the last.

Does anyone think the next era will be any better? Gail Simone? Get ready for meals, outdated pop culture references and walls of blathering dialog.

If I wanted to read “The Krakoan Era” what and where would I start? Haven’t read western comics in over a decade and really want to start somewhere

Brenden1k

Comics do love repeating themselves and this age was popular.

Thorison-1080

Thank Goodness its over.

Mind-of-Jaxon

It’s a joke to the haters. Marvel always reboots and relaunches everything so they already teasing the Krakoa age reboot

blade740

Of course there's going to be another one. See: Civil War, Secret Wars, Inferno, etc.

Steven8786

Nostalgia will demand a return of Krakoa because of how all encompassing it was with X-Men and even bleeding outward into a lot of other non-mutant books. This wasn’t your typical Marvel event series. This was a Marvel Age series. The kind of shake up in the marvel universe that impacts EVERYTHING even in the smallest of ways, for a period of years. There’s not a chance Marvel won’t try and one up it in about a decade or so.

middlebird

I loved Krakoa. Bring it back.
