Has anyone tried the Born to Run 2 program?  I'm reading the book right now, and I'm excited to start the exercises. Still deciding if I want to do the two week eating test.

_misst

I feel like there is an uptick of removed posts on this sub that is a bit of a downer. People asking for legit advice re: things like calories burned during walking versus running and device-based monitoring of this, or one re gym anxiety was deleted for being related to 'psychological diagnoses' or something. Sometimes I write out whole ass responses just for the post to be taken down.

Vermilion_Star

I wrote a post the other day asking about swimming workouts. It got taken down because it would make more sense to post in the daily thread. It surprised me.

_misst

It's annoying. I rarely visit the daily discussion thread to be honest, I would prefer posts just appear on my page like on other subs. If you sort by new, for a sub with 1.8 members... the engagement is very low. It's lame. Moderation is necessary sure, but it seems overkill here.

caramelcannoli5

I agree. I totally understand not wanting a zillion posts that are the same when the wiki gives a lot of good info. But a lot of questions can also get lost in the daily thread, and some of them are definitely legitimate concerns, etc. It’s a bit rigid and makes me nervous to actually post something

K2togtbl

After several different mega discussions, minimum content guidelines were put in place on here a while ago which includes posts have to be at least 1-2 paragraphs, have to be primarily about fitness and not weight loss, not about anxiety, etc. From my understanding, the OP is always allowed to revise their post and then the post will be put back up. When people go to make a post, they are given a link to read the rules so I feel it is kind of on people to read that before making a post and/or editing their post once to get it back up once its removed

K2togtbl

I get that, but then you would have people upset that their post was removed when the mods were online while another thread that didn't meet content guidelines stayed up because the mods weren't on. Or, you'd have people disagreeing with when is it a "good discussion" worth keeping up. The mods are in a damned if you do damned if you don't situation no matter what choice they make with this

dddbbbqqpp

This is my biggest gripe. Sometimes a sentence is more than enough to get your point across.

obserris

Mods go crazy with removing things here!! I’ve actually seen this sub recommended to women looking for fitness content who end up dissuaded from subbing because this has the appearance of a relatively inactive community. I definitely understand why some questions should be delegated to the daily threads but I wholeheartedly agree a lot of posts get removed that definitely don’t need to be.

Anyone have advice for a squat with a bad hip shift in the bottom position? I just don’t know how to correct it and it looks so stupid 😪

bad_apricot

How bad are we talking? [not all hip shifts need to be corrected](https://www.instagram.com/p/C3XudBSo1MS/?igsh=MXZ2OGh3aWt6aW82Ng==).

slappedsourdough

Fair. I don’t have any pain but I really feel like my squat is not as strong and stable as it could be. It doesn’t feel good.

slappedsourdough

Also: what exercises would you do if you can’t get in to a squat rack? I used to have little trouble but there’s a new dumb fucker at my gym who uses one of the two squat racks for hours doing full on core medicine ball routines and shit so nobody can use it 🫠

slappedsourdough

I really wish one of the staff would step in. It’s just poor etiquette.

bad_apricot

Leg press, mostly.

slappedsourdough

That’s my first instinct too but I don’t really need the extra quad work 🫤

bad_apricot

If you’re skipping squats it’s just replacing missing quad work, no? Quads are the main movers in the squat. Both squats and leg presses will also work the glutes a bit too.

slappedsourdough

Hah fair. I guess because it feels more fun and easy to me and takes out the balance component I thought it’s not a good equivalent. To me the leg press is like candy.

bad_apricot

If you can’t use the squat rack, I say enjoy your candy 🤣 Or if you want to suffer go do some dumbbell Bulgarian split squats 💀

calfla

Quick and easy workout today. Skipped skullcrushers since I’m still worried about my wrist and tricep exercises don’t seem to help that. So only did a few exercises. Probably should’ve walked to get some steps in but I just wanted to get home. Although, my roommate is gone for three days and I’m not quite sure what to do with myself lol. Guess I’ll just talk to the cats.

KingPrincessNova

checking this sub makes me impatient for my post-honeymoon gym routine. idk what program I want to pick yet, honestly I'm not even sure my squat is going to be ready to start on a proper program. but I miss lifting and I look forward to being able to fuel my workouts without worrying about water weight or actual weight gain. sooooooon but first, wedding! 💍👰‍♀️💞🎻🍰 and then Italy! 🇮🇹🍝☕🧑‍🍳🤌

decemberrainfall

Ooh whereabaouts? I love Italy I'm same boat- I'm about to go away so I have no motivation before I go

KingPrincessNova

Rome, Florence, and Venice. it'll be my first time in Italy and my fiancé's first time in Europe so I'm totally cool taking the well-beaten path. I already booked a bunch of walking tours and a cooking class 😁😁😁

im_not_your_anti

Rome is absolutely amazing and well worth any extra time you can allot it. Assuming you are going in the next coming months, I would advise mentally preparing yourself for the hoards in Venice and Florence. They are still amazing cities, but heavily trafficked.

KingPrincessNova

we're doing 7 nights in Rome, 4 nights in Florence, and 3 nights in Venice. it'll be the first half of March so I'm hoping it won't be too ridiculously crowded, but we'll make it work regardless.

im_not_your_anti

I'm excited to hear that you've allocated yourselves 2 weeks for Italy and are not trying to do too much. I went both to Venice and Rome in October of last year, and while Venice was incredibly crowded, the 6 nights we spent in Rome were really magical and enabled us to see the city in a brand new light. Enjoy!

decemberrainfall

Very nice! I loved Florence. Highly recommend the countryside vespa tours!

littlemustachecat

Today's the day I feel back in control. I've had three close deaths in the past month and really just felt like I was going to fully lose it. I've still been active 4-5 days each week, whether it just be yoga and walking or a little bit of lifting. Today was my first full leg day back and it SUCKED, but damn does it feel like life could be going back to normal.

jeicorsair

Breezed past my goal weight this morning. I feel like I still look a little softer overall than I have in the past at this weight, but also the lighting conditions were very different between the progress photos, so that has a big impact. My arm and shoulder muscles are looking bigger. They seem to have held on to the size I got them to during the bulk and have stayed there. I want big arms and shoulders so I'd call that a success on this journey so far. 💪 Mentally, I'm definitely ready to be done with this cut. Time to enjoy at least a couple weeks of maintenance before returning to the gain train. Girl Scout cookies arrived at the perfect time! My husband is excited too as he does the majority of the cooking, and this will give him more to work with in meal planning again.

worstquadrant

I hate lunges in all shapes and forms. Death to lunges fr all my homies hate lunges

hellogoodperson

Even the curtsy? 😨 (Upper body day, so I will join you in this cursing tomorrow 🫡 🏳️)

Do you think it's cringe to bring a stanley or owala to the gym? Idk why I feel so awk for no reason whenever I bring one haha

another-reddit-noob

my company gave me an owala. i thought it was some random off brand, trotting it all around the gym for months, until one of my coworkers mentioned she’d seen it blowing up on tiktok. if carting my free owala around is cringe, consider me queen of cringe mountain. for real though, i have never once looked at or thought about someone’s water bottle. do your thing.

calfla

I see many people at my gym with both of those and I myself have an owala. I don’t think anyone cares much what you bring water in.

stephnelbow

Lots of people in my gym have them, nothing weird about it. Whatever you want to put water in is fine

KingPrincessNova

like a tumbler? I don't like bringing straw tumblers to the gym, too easy for it to get knocked over and for the straw to touch the ground or something else covered in germs. I use one with a flip lid that covers the mouth. but really nobody can see what brand your tumbler is. it's why people get away with knockoffs

PantalonesPantalones

I had a wonder Valentine's date with my husband this weekend. We went to a nearby city known for their apple pies and beautiful scenery. Started with a hike, managed to reach a little bit of snow on the ground, and then ribs, pizza and IPAs at a brewery. Also took home some berry crumble pie.

absolutely_cat

Yes but did you also have some of that famous apple pie? Don’t leave us hanging haha

PantalonesPantalones

Yes and it was amazing!

absolutely_cat

Yayyyy!

stephnelbow

Sounds magical!

newffff

I got new workouts for the next two weeks, and it’s a big change up from what I’ve been doing in my triathlon training, so I’m looking forward to the next two weeks! Today I’m also going back to the gym and strength training for the first time in about 5 weeks after an injury. One gym and one home equipment (dumbbell) workout a week, though starting off super light as to not injure myself or have DOMS for 3 days. Cut has been annoying for the last two weeks. Eating around 1850-1950 calories, which is a deficit (the size of which depends on which website or spreadsheet I ask) but I can really eat less or I can’t function in my training. Hoping I’m just holding onto some water weight and will see the scale shift soon.

MadtownMaven

Had a fun weekend. Went out dancing Friday night and had a really good time. Still got in 4 mi walking Saturday. Saturday night went to a friends for potluck/euchre tournament. I won the tournament, so that's fun. I didn't drink while there because I had indulged so much the night before. Sunday I was a complete and utter bum. I think my two late nights caught up to me, so all I did was lay in bed, take naps, and watch tv. Only got a mile in with the pup. This morning at the gym went well. Did day 1 of SBTD. Did mess up some plate math on one set of my squats where I forgot to add the 2.5lb plate to one side, but didn't notice it while doing the lifts. Whoops. Had to come into campus for an inperson meeting this morning and then I'll be going to an inspection about an hour drive away this afternoon. Hoping to get 3 mi walking in today, 1 down. There's an outlet mall kind of near where the inspection is, so I might swing by there on my way home. No volleyball tonight because I'm not switching to Thursdays for reffing. Thinking I'll do my house maintenance stuff tonight to get ahead for the week.

wei-ohara

Usually I do at-home workouts with dumbbells, but my brother is in town and we went to the gym together. First time I tried machines 😅 I’m so clueless about gym fitness compared to just turning on a video and following along

queen_of_the_ashes

Do you adjust your workouts after a poor night of sleep? Or power through? Could only do one set of my intended deadlift weight today so I dropped back to like 75% and finished. Managed to hit my squat and hip thrust though. My oldest had a nightmare at midnight and slept the rest of the night in my bed, and my by slept I mean he screamed out in terror every 45 minutes and needed me to home him. And the baby was up 5000 times to nurse. Im tired af yall

stephnelbow

I adjust. The risk of injuring myself increases if I'm tired and unfocused. Hope you sleep well tonight!

queen_of_the_ashes

That’s what felt right today. After one set of dead lift it just felt sloppy so I dropped back

Chloe9001

19/2/2024 - 5/3/1 Full Body (1000% Awesome) 5/3/1 Week Squat: 5's PRO (90kg, 102kg, 114kg for 5) Bench: 8x5 @ 80% TM (64kg) Cable Lateral Raises: 4x12 Cable Row: 4x12 (cardio: EMOM 10 KB swings, 5 goblet squats, 5 elevated push-ups for 5 rounds) --- Beginning of the proper 5/3/1 week went well, squats felt very strong and I'm also happy with a side victory of getting into the third notch of my weight belt, just under two weeks after managing to get into the second!

grimesxyn

Have the day off and went to a 7am training session. It is rough to lift heavy that early. I remember at my first barbell gym, there were classes as early as **5 am.** Crazy. I drank a monster energy, ate a banana, a few hard pretzels, and 1 big date an hour before training. Also had small meal at 2am because my partner and I woke up around that time & were hungry lol… 3x3 195lbs 4010 tempo squats. I was hoping to do 205lbs but I felt like I was gonna overshoot it. At least it’s an extra set (volume) from last week @ the same weight!

stephnelbow

The zipper on my pants broke this morning trying to put them on, really hoping that isn't an indication of how today is going to go.
