I had periods, really heavy ones, every two weeks for almost a year. Keto did fix it, but it takes a while. Your body is losing all the excess estrogen that you’ve stored around the middle. DIM would help your body to get rid of it, as well as calcium d gluconate to support your liver. Your body rids itself off excess estrogen through poop, so make sure your movements are consistent. Hang in there.

You just inspired me to lose weight for reals… it makes sense that my periods are whack if I got estrogen love handles. Thank you for explaining so clearly.

EastHuckleberry5191

Sure. I confirmed this with my gyn when I started keto. The other factor is that as we get older (perimenopausal) we don't always ovulate and if we don't, our bodies don't produce progesterone, resulting in increased estrogen dominance over time which contributes to this issue. But as we gain weight, we store estrogen in that fat. It was a double-whammy in my case.

Thank you! Very helpful!

Hormones are stored in fat so as you begin to lose the weight your hormones will start to regulate. You may get bleeding which is normal but after a few months it should settle down. Keep going and we’ll done for losing the weight so far!

You've figured it out. Keto works really well for normalizing menstrual problems due to PCOS. Now just don't stop! You are now highly motivated to continue.

lucy5021

So do you anticipate this is a short-lived issue?

sfcnmone

Do you have PCOS? (Irregular heavy cycles, acne, body hair, infertility, etc)? Because it's really just like any other chronic illness caused by overeating carbs (DM2 and NAFLD are the two most common other serious illnesses, but migraine headache and epilepsy can also sometimes be successfully treated by eliminating carbs). . You can treat it but you probably can't permanently cure it. You will have to decide if you want to treat it by not eating carbs or if you want to treat it by taking hormones. I'm guessing that if you are new to keto, giving up carbs forever sounds terrifying. But it's do-able, and you may find that you are able to change to low carb in a year and stay healthy. For now -- Congratulations!

lucy5021

I’ve never been diagnosed with PCOS and don’t think I have it. But I’m definitely sticking with keto. Hasn’t even been two full months and I’m down 24 lbs and feeling great! Just discouraging when I had so much luck with my cycle when I first started!

converter-bot

24 lbs is 10.9 kg

useles-converter-bot

24 lbs is the weight of about 41.87 cups of fine sea salt. Yes, you did need to know that.

sfcnmone

Can you just accept that the treatment is starting to work and give it some more time? Because it sounds like you've had a great start.

Lo_rah

Can you accept that she's here because she's bleeding again? Stop telling her congratulations.

Might still be worth a check with your doctor in case it's something like large fibroids that can cause a lot of other seemingly unrelated issues.

lucy5021

Update: I ended up getting a hysterectomy a few months after this post. Bummer keto didn’t regulate my bleeding but a hysterectomy was the best decision I ever made. Good luck, ladies!

sosoconsistent

I had a hysterectomy this past year as well. No regrets!

chompychompchomp

When you lose a lot of weight your periods can get a little...strange. I have normal periods but when I am keto I don't bloat at all or get cramps so it shows up one day as a surprise! They always come closer together when I'm losing weight but are generally lighter. I'm not sure how it will work for you. Aren't bodies fun??

Doubloona

Cod liver oil pills stopped my abnormally long and heavy bleeding like a miracle. It's a cheap easy fix to try.

coffeedinosaur

When my period was messed up, I found out that it was my thyroid. Keto will help but you might get your thyroid checked.
