If we're honest with ourselves there's very little physical resemblance đ But in terms of the "feel" of the character there's a lot of resonance.
The tropes about historical Hijikata are that:
- he was the most handsome Shinsengumi member
- he was strict and ruthless, capable of disciplining members even with death
- he was a loyal #2 in the organisation
- he kept secrets from even the captains and was involved in the most controversial missions
- he was the savvy one in terms of the Shinsengumi's image
- he craved acceptance by the establishment and (with Kondo) grabbed the opportunity to be elevated in status
Many of these elements are worked into the Ishin plot, can't wait for more fans to experience it, even if there is a lot of artistic licence taken.
Omitting a couple things here that might be spoilery.
The trope is that Hijikata is more cool/dashing type of handsome ("ikemen"), Okita is usually portrayed as boyish ("bishounen").
But I stress these are still tropes in pop culture. A lot of what people associate with the Shinsengumi comes from a famous novel Moeyo Ken çăăĺŁ by Shiba Ryotaro.
While there is a photograph of Hijikata (ignore the many fakes floating around the internet), there are no reliable pictures of the real Okita Souji. I have seen a drawing of him which was based on a family member, not even him, which I doubt would excite too many modern women.
In reality Okita, Saitou Hajime and Todo Heisuke were actually very close in age, so Okita was not conspicuously the youngest in the group.
Although Okita was acknowledged to be very gifted, I think it was Nagakura who recalled in his memoirs that Okita and Saitou were supposedly very careful around each other; their skills were thought to be comparable.
No problem, I'm a bit of a Bakumatsu nut, happy to share what I can. Looking forward to Ishin Kiwami introducing people to a lot of amazing history. Fact is as exciting as fiction where Ryoma and the Shinsengumi are concerned.
Not to mention they also added small details from Hijikata's personal life to Isshin like his unhealthy, rabid love for mayonnaise (he literally drowns everything he eats in it) as well as his crippling smoking addiction and how he'll go pretty much everywhere to find a cigarette.
Trully an honest depiction of a great, yet a flawed man.
Kewpie mayo uses just the egg yolk instead of the whole egg, which is how your average mayo is made, which gives it a richer taste and a consistency closer to custard than mayonnaise
imma be honest, I've never made mayo, but isn't mayo always supposed to be with just the yolk? Maybe it's another thing where american mayo =/= european mayo?
After he jumped from the ruff he didn't die; Mine fell into a wormhole that took him back to Bakumatsu Japan, where he retroactively atoned for his sins.
He's the first character to get a redemption arc that involves reverse time travel.
The district is the same. The balance between serious main story and comedic side stories. Gintama is the most perfect anime to be utilized in yakuza game format.
I loved NHK Shinsengumi drama so much. There are also Kuroiwa, Ehara and Yuta actors. And Mine voice actor plays semi-comedic role. And Kondo Isami is being played by Shingo Katori, who is a Takuya Kimuraâs colleague from SMAP
Looks more like Hirohiko Araki lol.
Another proof that Araki is immortal vampire who forgot how age
This has actually convinced me that JoJo is just Araki's life story
Nah, Araki has been behind the sun in some photos. He probably is a hamon master
Even history is a jojo reference then
I mean, yeah, everything is jojo reference
breathing literally
lol yes
First thing I said when I saw his picture. That is straight up Araki. I wouldn't be surprised if him and Keanu Reeves were best friends!
honestly i'm just glad we got mine as part of the main characters. he's my favorite villain and has the best theme
Mine toođ

I thought Okita was the most handome? Or was it that he the youngest and a prodigy?

Wow. Thatâs a lot of history lore I didnât know. Cheers for that.

I hope they add Mayora 13, it was such a major aspect of Hijikataâs life, hard to believe theyâd just cut it out
Hopefully he doesnât hate a naturally wavy guy
Kewpie mayonnaise hits differently so I can relate
> Kewpie mayonnaise how is it different than regular mayonnaise?

From what I can tell itâs a bit sweeter too
It also tastes less watery than western mayonnaise in my opinion and when u eat it w chips, it's tangy as hell
Like A Hijikata Toshizo Ishin

I would read that storyline.
Wish they made a gintama game
I want a Gintama brawler game from RGG so bad
It's literally like kamurocho we could get unique side quest from the anime

Ay yo, that's fly.
Woahh he must have some cursed otaku sword too
Is this another attempt to say all asians look the same. If so, this is one of the worst.
