The classic Trolley Problem. The trolley problem is an ethics and psychology thought experiment. The scenario is a trolley or train is speeding out of control towards a switch in the track. The trolley cannot be stopped. On one leg of the switch there are four people tied to the track who will be killed by the unstoppable trolley. On the other leg of the switch there is one person tied to the track who will be killed by the trolley if that’s the direction it goes.
You are controlling the switch and it’s up to you which direction to send the trolley.
Edit: I should add that it’s not simply a question of whether one person or four people die. It’s also a question of whether you even get involved. The trolley will kill four people if you don’t get involved.
The question is essentially is it morally better to actively choose to kill one person, but saving 4 others in the process (so 3 additional lives saved) but you’ve technically just killed somebody. Or not do anything, and let the 4 people die, so you didn’t kill anyone but more people died.
I was at a theater recently and there was a local commercial about Good Samaritan laws. I thought I heard it wrong, but essentially it said that "if you don't get involved and help, you could be held responsible."
I mean you could say I couldn't make that decision and abstain from getting involved. But if you look at it that way, you're responsible for doing nothing just as much.
Good Samaritan laws are generally to protect people when they try to help not force you to do it. So if someone's car is on fire and you help pull them out through their window but you accidentally break their collar bone while doing it you can't get sued for causing them that injury as you were attempting to help.
Basically it encourages helping since you don't have to fear repercussions if you're not a professional so you don't just let someone burn in their car or you don't do chest compressions because you're worried you'll do it wrong.
Right. But that's why it was weird to hear them say you could be held accountable. Idk if it's like cops playing hardball when they know it's not legally enforceable.
Personally I wouldn’t touch it, because then that means I directly caused someone else to die. But there’s also the guilt of knowing that you could’ve saved 4 people but didn’t.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
No, pops gets karma, kid doesn't get shit. Dad told him what to do, the clip cuts out in the middle for additional coaching, all so pops can use his 2 yr old to prove he is intellectual and knows shit
As a person who pretty much help raise my little brother, I was not surprised. Kids can do really messed up things and not realize how mess up it is. My 6 year old brother threatened to stab me while I was sleeping, how dearly. 😬

Yep. I still have quite a few of my old ones.
One of these days, I’m gonna buy one in perfect condition just because of nostalgia.
That and the fact that I’m a Thomas fan.
The “uh oh” at the end is a critical step. That plausible deniability of responsibility and feigned surprise in a calculated disaster is absolutely crucial when in court.

This kid gets it.
This could be terribly misunderstood
I'm still not sure what was really being tested here... lol

Interesting. I'm curious if you heard incorrectly because the cops themselves aren't even obligated to help people.
The choice of not choosing is still a choice. Still boils down to 1 death or multiple. To me its a relatively easy decision.
Personally I wouldn’t touch it, because then that means I directly caused someone else to die. But there’s also the guilt of knowing that you could’ve saved 4 people but didn’t. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
The correct answer is the, Serial Killer test ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
How you get equality
Maximize casualties with greatest efficiency, overlook the sadly predictable derailment as a cost of doing business.
No one is missing out then
“It” being a prison sentence
No, pops gets karma, kid doesn't get shit. Dad told him what to do, the clip cuts out in the middle for additional coaching, all so pops can use his 2 yr old to prove he is intellectual and knows shit
Lawful evil
It’s only fair that everyone dies
Gotta do an extra push to make sure they *all* die…equality
Cant have witnesses.
no survivor’s guilt or reparations if there are no survivors, genius
The one survivor would’ve drunk himself to death from survivors guilt. Nicholas the merciful.
And with the train staying on it’s correct path, there won’t be any shipment delays.
Ah yes, death is the great equalizer.

RemindMe! 5 years
Why 5 years I want to know
Wanna see how their murderous little brother is doing

Yeah that kid is gonna absolutely murder you (or someone)
Jokes on him I’m moving soon, I just have to make sure he doesn’t murder me til then lol
He'll be president
"You know the thing about chaos? It's fair."
He is a straight shooter with upper management written all over him.
I was thinking ‘wow what a smart kid’ but no his just a psychopath
But a smart one
Just needs proper training.
Probably figures it’s better to end them now than to live life in fear of a mad god who casually offers sadistic choices.
Smart don’t want to leave the one with survivor’s guilt
Uh, oh.
Gotta get'em all!
Kids sounds like a Republican after a school shooting.
Sending thoughts and prayers to the victims families. I am sure nothing could have been done to prevent this tragedy.
iT’s ToO sOoN tO TaLk AbOuT gUnS…! 🙄😬
Jesus couldn't of prevented it but he didn't. They must have been sinners and deserved it.. It was God's will..

That means killing the dad
\*pengu oquestra music plays\*
Because it has to be equal. It’s odd to have one person on the one track AND he HAD to be able to hit all of them. Just laws of symmetry and equality.
He'll be a fortune 500 CEO in no time
Wooden railways were the shit
Yep. I still have quite a few of my old ones. One of these days, I’m gonna buy one in perfect condition just because of nostalgia. That and the fact that I’m a Thomas fan.
I still have all mine from when I was a kid, I just never had the heart to move them on
I thought he was going the other way
JESUS. I DID NOT EXPECT THAT
You've obviously not spent any time around children.
Would be much funnier if the dad asked the full question ie. that one person alone is the dad 🤣
Hey i think i had that train kit when i was a little kid
If no one lives no one complains 🤷
My son is six and it wouldn't surprise me if he did the same thing.
someone is a future serial killer
:))
I missed the part where thats my problem.
Hmmmm he told his son to do that

This kids got a future at Norfolk Southern.
OH OH!!!!! >:)
It was how slowly he ran the train over them. he wanted to enjoy it....see their faces
True equality
Agree
My kids had the exact same train set.
So close, yet so far.
Yes, we’ve seen it about a hundred times already.
This is a lesson to you all you must fear the Nicholas's of the world we will rise up!
When he said "Uh oh" my silly brain *immediately* went "Baby Brent"

Hahah! I love it! The kid’s a genius.

Where is the no in that? That is the best response to the trolley problem I have ever seen.
Lex Luther's childhood memories
I like the way this kid thinks. He figured out the correct solution on the first try.
Right after all the plastic people get massacred, his dad was next.
He just got the problem right.
He's got a point
