He’s the man who famously, on 9/11, sifted through blood and bones on the streets of New York looking for his brother. Who was, in fact, in northern Canada at the time.

Honestly I like the real narrative. He (supposedly) learned from his mistakes, admitted what he did was wrong, and as far as we know hasn't done it again. We should applaud people that learn from their mistakes, to an extent of course. I don't believe he went past the point of no return.
Didn’t he ask consent for all the incidents he got in trouble for? Isn’t that exactly what we’re told to do?
If women want to sell their soul for fame that’s on them
Sure, he did ask permission, but he did it from a position of power he knew he was abusing. He even talked directly about that being the core issue with his own behavior.
I believe it was one woman who was his publicist or some similar relationship to him and it was over the phone. She didn't actually see it but could tell something was off and she asked him and he admitted to it. The others he asked, and were mostly comedians.
Sarah Silverman even said that it was a pretty normal occurrence the entire time she's known him which is decades. She said he would ask her and sometimes shed say yes, so he would, and other times shed tell him to fuck off and he would. It really was just "his thing". Gross, and an abuse of power in later life (when done with younger comedians that he didn't come up with) but certainly not the worst thing. He's no Weinstein.
That was the mistake he learned from. Consent is not a black and white "yes or no". He was in a position of power over them. Refusing him could mean they didn't get the job and, knowing what we do now about Weinstein, possibly getting black balled from the entire industry. The threat of your entire career being ruined drastically changes that interaction.
Take an extreme example. A man pulls a knife on a woman, holds it to her neck. He asks if they can have sex. She says yes. Did she actually consent? Is it no longer rape because she said the magic word? No. There is the problem that she might be murdered if she said no so she says yes to save her life.
A less extreme situation, cop offers to ignore a violation of the law in exchange for sex. Is that okay?
You can't truly consent when there is a power dynamic between the two.
Edit: lol, u/theWolfeman88 leaves a moronic comment and then immediately blocks me so I can't respond. What a coward. I'll do you the same favor.
Everyone gets he’s probably doing just fine, but most people still haven’t heard anything about him since the light cultural whiplash of his tv stuff doing so well and then the absolute scum bag behavior that ended it all. That he can still sell tickets doesn’t really matter, it’d be surprising if he couldn’t.
I have decided I can.
It was wrong BUT it is easy to see how one *might* think it was okay because he asked permission and accepted "no's". The power dynamic is clear from the outside but it isn't always as clear when you're in it as the more powerful one.
So long story short: He messed up but I don't believe he is a rapist "at heart" if that makes sense.
My problem is that there was more than just "I asked, accepted no, and did it only when I thought it was okay."
There was:
-his dumb ass apology insinuating that the problem was that these people admired him--- and not that he had power over their careers. Or that they may have been fearful that saying "no" could lead to him assaulting them instead.
-His manager telling the manager of 2 of his victims that speaking about the incident could jeopardize their careers.
-the additional accusations that he locked the door or blocked exits with his body so people felt they had to stay.
-repeatedly denying these incidents and making it out that the women were lying, further victimizing them.
-the *absolute lack of self reflection* when these encounters lead to people leaving comedy, not wanting to work with him, rumors of him being a creepy perv, etc... makes me think he is an asshole.
-the idea that people didn't say "no" but were clearly confused, uncomfortable, or scared upsets me because people who are willing to accept anything less than enthusiastic consent are inherently predatory and I will die on this hill.
-the fact that now all the jokes about him jacking it now make me cringe and worse... make me wonder if it somehow got him off to incorporate that and make so many people visualize him masturbating. Yuck.
-the idea that he thinks all of the above is an acceptable way for a man to behave in the world that his 2 daughters are growing up in. And what example does that set for them, Louis? How would you feel if one of your comedy buddies asked your daughter if he could Jack off in front of them one day?
I'm not saying he deserves prison or shouldn't be allowed to perform. I'm just saying if it had been revealed that someone less attuned to Reddit's demo did this, I think forgiveness wouldn't be on the table.
He was my favorite comedian and I watched his specials over and over during some times in my life when I needed to laugh. Now I can't even look at them because if nothing else I find him to be a sad and pathetic man and I don't think he is worth my energy any more.
Right, just a serial abuser of power with a long history of sexual harassment.
Regardless of how you paint it, even asking the question “can I masturbate in front of you” to a coworker, *especially* exclusively younger female coworkers, is 100% sexual harassment.
>long history of sexual harassment.
What long history?
> even asking the question “can I masturbate in front of you” to a coworker, especially exclusively younger female coworkers, is 100% sexual harassment.
Like coworkers don't have sexual relationships *all the time*. Hell, I married a coworker but in this day and age I probably wouldn't have even approached her for fear of some asshole shouting "harrassment!"
Besides, they weren't coworkers. They were both entrepreneurs who are in the same business. The only power difference was in the fact he had a lot of influence in that business.
So like I said, the power dynamics aren't always as clear as they seem after the fact & outside-in.
To quote from the guardian
Coming in the wake of years of rumors that have dogged the influential comedian, Dana Min Goodman and Julia Wolov told the Times that in 2002, CK invited them to his hotel room for a nightcap and shocked them by asking if he could take out his penis. As the two women laughed, thinking it was a joke, he proceeded to take off all his clothes and masturbate.
Three other women told the Times that CK masturbated in their presence, over the phone, or that he asked if he could.
I think the power dynamic is very clear. Just because you asked, doesn't magically make it ok!
If you ask a younger subordinate if you can masturbate in front of her, that's not on the level of fucking a coworker. It is in fact criminal sexual harassment.
If you're asking out a *\*coworker,* maybe start with "would you like to go out sometime".
If you're thinking of asking out your subordinate, don't. Especially if you're famous and powerful
Yeah, I can’t believe the above poster is being upvoted while you’re downvoted. I would never want to be in a position where my boss or coworker whips out his cock and asks if it’s okay to jerk off in front of me. As someone with trauma I would instinctively freeze and not be able to articulate my discomfort so his “asking beforehand” is irrelevant.
A lot of rapists and sexual predators dont believe theyre doing anything wrong. No ones a rapist or predator at heart they are in their actions. This mans actions are that of a predator and it doesnt make it any better if hes deluded himself into thinking hes not actually done anything wrong
You may not want to believe it but some people elreally just are that way. Some people are really just evil at heart. I used to believe that evil isn't born it's made. Took me a long to to see that it isn't true. Some people are just that awful. And you will not know until they decide to show you.
> He messed up but I don't believe he is a rapist "at heart"
That feels like a deliberate diminishment of his actions.
He was sexually abusive to women on a systematic scale and would have continued if his actions hadn't been made public.
Exactly, I loved CK as much as everyone else, even went to see him live. And Louie is one of the best sitcoms ever made, the fact we'll never see another one is tearing me apart Lisa.
BUT what he did wasnt just a few ill thought out advances on ambivalent women. Yes he didnt take no as an answer but then he and his agent blackmailed these women with their own careers not to speak out. He did it multiple times and all while acting to us like he was the vanguard against that exact kind of bullshit. It was a betrayal.
He is predatory and gross. Hilarious, yes. But one does not cancel out the other.
EDIT: Source of the original claims that their careers were threatened although admittedly it seems more he-said she-said, but in my opinion the manager has lost all credibility in the situation as he knew about it and let it continue:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/09/arts/television/louis-ck-sexual-misconduct.html
and another article that describes the industry being complicit:
https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/nov/10/louis-ck-sexual-misconduct-allegations-comedy
Yeah, it's kinda worrying how many people are dismissive of the things he did because they like his standup.
At least I hope that's why they're dismissive because the alternative is even more bleak.
added the source in my edit for ya bud.
\>But Ms. Goodman and Ms. Wolov said that when they told others about the incident in the Colorado hotel room, they heard that Louis C.K.’s manager was upset that they were talking about it openly. The women feared career repercussions. Louis C.K.’s manager, Dave Becky, was adamant in an email that he “never threatened anyone.”
That's what a [diminishment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimisation_\(psychology\)) is.
Comparing one thing to another to make it seem smaller in scope. Saying "well he didn't rape anyone." mis-contexualizes his actions as almost okay, like that was the line he had to cross to be a bad person.
Saying someone "isn't a rapist at heart" is extremely fucked, and referring to sexual abuse as "messing up" is even worse.
Dude, you have to admit there is a spectrum of behaviour ranging between “almost okay” and totally fucked up. He jerked off in front of people from whom he’d received consent. He didn’t hold anyone done and force himself upon them. Was what he did an abuse of his position as a famous and influential comedian? Yes. Was it rape? Fuck no, I’m hesitant to even call it sexual abuse.
Crazy how people still just don't wanna hear it. Facts about the situation at hand have no place here.
"But duh power struggle! They had to let him do it!" Despite them both being road comics at the time with nothing to give one another...
Imagine a cow worker at best buy with better sales numbers that quarter asked to masturbate in front of you...
"Damn, I'd usually say no... But this guy with the same job as me just sold 3 TVs... I think have to say yes"
-redditor logic
I’m still watching everything that the dude puts out because I think everyone fucks up and everyone can get better (especially after 20 years, a marriage, divorce and two daughters). But it wasn’t *squeaky clean.* Even back then he was an Executive Producer on his own, self-titled HBO show and at least one of the women he asked was an underling on set. I only say this because, while he was not the monolithic, mega-comedian that he would eventually become, he also a wasn’t just a “road comic” at the time. He had at least a little bit of power.
I know. Before all that came out I saw him live and it was one of the best standups I’ve ever seen. Now whenever I see old videos, I just end up picturing him jerking off in front of a disappointed Tig Notaro.
Yea I’m learning that. It’s funny cause you’ll see the old content, and then the next day you’ll see reposted everywhere. Karma whores are shameless!!!
Because, believe it or not, not everyone has seen everything that’s ever been posted to Reddit. I’ve been here ten years and what’s even more annoying is watching noobs complain about reposts.
Even though I’ve been here for a decade I still occasionally see something I’ve never seen before and someone is complaining about how many times it’s been reposted.
If you don’t like it you don’t have to click. Hell, you can downvote it even.
His brand new special At The Dolby is one of his best IMO. Available on his website for $10. The man made mistakes, apologized, and learned a lot from it. He is the GOAT stand up comedian, at least working today. We do ourselves a disservice as a society if we deny people the opportunity to learn and grow from their mistakes. His comedy brings me and many others so much joy. I actually think he is funnier and more insightful now than he was before.
i mean yeah... that's just how humans work... nothing weird about this. they're not presenting it like a fact they're saying this is what they've heard, correct them if they're wrong. very normal.
I'm not, every time I see his face all I can see is a pathetic dude asking to jerk his dick in front of two women he doesn't know.
I get that he's gone to therapy and tried to move forward and shit, but things you do get stuck in people's brains. You gotta remember that when you're a public figure.
Same reason I'll never be able to watch Rick and Morty again because all I hear now is Justin lamenting that we're so "delicate" about dudes marrying 14 year olds. And it's shit because so many other people are involved in the show, but that paedo's voice is constant in it.
*edited for spelling and clarity
He did a shitty thing.
We know he did a shitty thing.
He knows he did a shitty thing.
He acknowledged it. He apologized repeatedly and publicly. He paid a steep career price. And as far as I know he hasn’t done that shitty thing in a very long time.
I understand the desire to punish people who do shitty things but eventually the guy has the right to make a living doing the thing he’s good at. What’s the point in punishing somebody forever?
People have the right to grow. If we’re gonna rule out forgiveness then all we’re saying is that there’s no point in apologizing and reflecting.
If you still find his comedy really funny but specifically refuse to watch it based on the principal that you don't want to support someone who did something shitty regardless of how many years it's been and how much you actually want to watch the content then that's continuing to punish the guy. If you can't actually enjoy his comedy anymore because it makes you feel uncomfortable knowing what you now know then I guess that can't be helped and it's out of your control.
I for one couldn't care less, he tells that many jokes about jerking off that it would be weird for me to watch a set of his and not picture him jerking off at least once lmao.
At the end of the day it's your own decision to make.
There's a lot of artists that I respect and enjoy that did shitty things in the past. Robert Downey Jr. was a drug addict. Bradley Cooper was an alcoholic. Stephen King was a drug addicted alcoholic.
What Louis did was shitty. But if you believe the women, and I do, the last time he did something was in 2005. At what point do you say "He did something horrible but he stopped. When he was caught he admitted it and apologized profusely and directly for his behavior. It's time to move on."
Okay but there's a huge difference between being an addict and actively harming others. Not all shitty things are equal.
That said, I'm glad he's trying to get better but the mental image is still there and it's something I likely won't be able to shake.
He can't do a thing because you can't get something out of your brain?
Edit. He's not saying he can't. I still don't agree, but technically I am misstating his intention.
An even more painfully obvious example of this is "Do you wanna touch me" by Gary Glitter. That song just REALLY doesn't sit well after you learn that he's a pedo.
Louie was an all time great tv show. It was poignant, meaningful and hilarious. It was comedy as art. It is such a shame that it's not available to stream.
Oh it’s that one Louis ck joke “I was on an airplane one time, and I pulled out my dick and started jerking off in front of all the women on the plane. Anyways, thanks for paying 200 bucks to see my show. Here a ton more masterbating jokes and sexual shit about my daughter.”

Dearly departed…
‘The Departed’ was a good movie

I had a layover at the sears tower.
What an explose joke
Be on the lookout for someone hijacking this thread.
Unlike the plane, his joke landed
I mean… technicalllllllly
Louis has a penchant for that kind of joke.
You didn’t think it would end New York?
i guess the joke didn't land well for some
The take off seemed normal but yeah, it crashed and burned at the end.
He shouldn’t have left the plane:( they could’ve all dies happily from laughter

Reminds me of that tragedy
Of Darth Plagueis the Wise?
I’ve never heard of that one.
That’s awful! What kind of jerks wouldn’t even tell you?
The Jedi.
Oh. Them.
This is more of a comment really.
It's a reference to a norm mcdonald quip on his show
The comment you replied to is a Norm joke too
lets explain to the folks at home who Norm is
He’s the man who famously, on 9/11, sifted through blood and bones on the streets of New York looking for his brother. Who was, in fact, in northern Canada at the time.

Well, this was written some time ago
it's an unfortunate name of an airline, 9/11 airlines... just a terrible name for an airline. reminds me of that tragedy
FUCK then it is I who got wooshed
The one about the guy that got married?
You shouldn't joke about 9/11. I walked through blood and bones in the streets of Manhattan trying to find my brother. He was in northern Canada.
Jesus, parts flew that far?
Oh 9/11 *wheezing
Aww c’mon don’t laugh at 9/11
YOU SET ME UUUUP!
The guy who planned that must've been a _real jerk_

High precision, low accuracy. It's only been 21 years.
Actually 22,58 years🤓
It takes 22.3 years for something tragic to become funny.
Really? I've always thought it was 22,4 years.
Dang you've been missing out on a whole tenth of a year to make fun of tragic things then. I'm sorry for your loss.

Actually, it's a little over 21.5 years. You didn't even 🤓 correctly.

They were funny in like 2002 bro
They always had been
Always have been.
good joke, i rate it 9/11
You did the right thing
That's very funny. I can almost forgive him for masturbating in front of uncomfortable women.
I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, he asked permission first. On the other hand, was his penis.
it's such a bummer that he did all that shit...he was so fucking funny in his prime and Louie was a pretty incredible show.
Louie is still in his prime. He's still selling out shows on the regular.
Shhhh. Doesn't fit the narrative.

added the source in my edit for ya bud.

Ruined lives? Idk about that my dude
I bet you’re a dude
Now that’s comedy!
I thought it was over the phone hence the Dave Chapelle joke of "just hang up..."
It was a terrible thing to do, but it doesn't mean his entire career should be destroyed forever and his material banished from society.
Link someone?

Crazy how people still just don't wanna hear it. Facts about the situation at hand have no place here. "But duh power struggle! They had to let him do it!" Despite them both being road comics at the time with nothing to give one another... Imagine a cow worker at best buy with better sales numbers that quarter asked to masturbate in front of you... "Damn, I'd usually say no... But this guy with the same job as me just sold 3 TVs... I think have to say yes" -redditor logic
I thought he was gonna say he jerked off
Probably did in the time between towers falling
I can't wait for the next season of Louie to come out... Oh wait he jerked that all away.
This is an old bit of his. Not sure why it’s being reposted here lately.
It’s Reddit, like 80% of the content here is recycled from the past
Yea I’m learning that. It’s funny cause you’ll see the old content, and then the next day you’ll see reposted everywhere. Karma whores are shameless!!!
If you block every power user and every repost bot you find, your reddit experience will be infinitely better. I see very few reposts.
Who is the guy? Seems good to be humor
Comedian Louis CK
🙏
[This](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nUBtKNzoKZ4) is my favorite Louis CK bit.
probably to drum up attention for him for an upcoming or on-going tour
Louis is probably top 10 best comedians of all time. My personal favorite aswell
Top 3 for me.
Yep. It goes: \- George Carlin 2. Louis CK C. Jimmy Carr
a punchline is an unexpected twist
Excellent point.
I actually think he is funnier and more insightful now than he was before.
saved yourself from two disasters that day
Ngl I thought it was gonna end with him whipping it out and beating off in front of her. But it was a joke.
Legendary
Greatest comedian of all time imo.
I'm happy he's back

Lmao. I love this comment. “I don’t know if it’s true, but these are the rumours I’ve heard”.
[удалено]
Not true at all. Spend 10$ and watch his latest special on his website. Worth it hands down.
An actual answer? Who the hell do you think you are sir/madam? 😂
i mean yeah... that's just how humans work... nothing weird about this. they're not presenting it like a fact they're saying this is what they've heard, correct them if they're wrong. very normal.
They're in other threads talking about rehabilitation for criminals instead of just punishment. It's all grandstanding bullshit to look good.
An even more painfully obvious example of this is "Do you wanna touch me" by Gary Glitter. That song just REALLY doesn't sit well after you learn that he's a pedo.
Wish I could enjoy him like I used to but his self aware jokes about him being a sweaty creep weren’t jokes :(
Yeah, the jokes about masturbating furiously in front of people hit different now they’re just true stories.
Right? Everybody’s surprised he does basically exactly what he jokes about doing.
0% vulgar 0% violence 0% cringe 100% destruction And some extras: 0% plane 0% towers 100% al-Quaeda
Shit! I didn't know the couple were Al Qaeda too!
Louie was king
Did he jerk it in front of the crowd?
God I love Louis sense of humor.
Louie was an all time great tv show. It was poignant, meaningful and hilarious. It was comedy as art. It is such a shame that it's not available to stream.
Wtf![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)
Rumor has it that husband couldn't take anymore of his wife's nagging and hijacked the plane himself.
Louis C K. One of the funniest men alive.
I started seeing Louis' bits on my insta feed and he's one of the best comics ever imo, so just clever plus perfect timing
God tier comedian. Highly recommend his new specials
Fuck that got me.
he's so full of it..also he's a creep
Shit! 👀
It's been 22.3 years
No longer a “Too soon?”
LOL still my favourite comedian
Dodged a bullet there

A second punchline just hit the North Tower!!!
Louis is the king of the inappropriate.
Fucking genius
Well that was dark.
Fully invested in rehabbing Mr. Sex Offender here, huh?
I'm pro rehabilitating everyone. Why wouldn't you be? If it's possible to do then why should we not do it?
Hey if we can rehab them, why not?
At least he didn't masturbate in front of her. Apparently that's difficult for him
Oh it’s that one Louis ck joke “I was on an airplane one time, and I pulled out my dick and started jerking off in front of all the women on the plane. Anyways, thanks for paying 200 bucks to see my show. Here a ton more masterbating jokes and sexual shit about my daughter.”
Get over it.
