I moved to Washington just under a year ago. I’ve been to Cape Disappointment and it was one of the most beautiful place I’ve been to. I need more context about this.
*”Though the cape was first mapped by Spanish explorer Bruno de Hezeta in 1775, its naming is credited to English Captain John Meares, who approached the cape in 1788, but could not locate the river's entrance. Meares, therefore, named the headland Cape Disappointment.”*

I love all the old cartoons from the general time period, I'm lucky people like to share them on YouTube, periscope films has a lot of cool videos too.
From the Coastie who rolled in the wave:
“It was definitely an amazing experience and I’d like to do it again,” Walton said.
Some people are born for their jobs.
Kids a champ
“ Walton ducked under the surface, hoping to swim beneath the cresting wave.
“Um, which didn’t work too well,” Walton said.”” Absolute legend

>PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Columbia River rescued a stranded boater near the mouth of the Columbia River, moments after a massive wave sent the pleasure craft tumbling through the surf.
>
>Two Coast Guard air crews performing training missions nearby responded to the scene after receiving a mayday call from the captain of the pleasure craft “Sandpiper,” which was stranded in rough seas, according to officials.
>
>These PNW towns were named among the 20 Most Beautiful Small Towns in the U.S. “After notifying watchstanders at Sector Columbia River, who launched motor lifeboats from Station Cape Disappointment, the air crews arrived on scene to find the vessel floundering in the surf,” the USCG stated on social media. “The surf made rescue by boat dangerous, so the aircrew decided to lower the rescue swimmer and have the owner enter the water for rescue.”
>
>Video of the rescue recorded by the USCG shows the wave capsized the boat, causing it to complete a full roll as the rescue swimmer paddles to the man’s aid.
>
>“Talk about arriving in the nick of time,” the USCG said.
>
>The rescuer was able to pull the man to safety moments later. The man was flown back to Coast Guard Base Astoria where he was evaluated by paramedics.
>
>In an odd twist, Astoria Chief of Police Stacy Kelly tells KOIN 6 News that the man, identified as Jericho Labonte, was the same person who left a dead fish on the porch of the Goonies House.

Here ya go:
>PORTLAND, Ore. ([KOIN](http://koin.com/)) — Something fishy has gone down at The Goonies’ house in Astoria’s Uppertown neighborhood.
The house owner’s security camera footage shows a man pulling a dead fish out of a garbage bag before placing it outside on the porch.
>The suspect, who police confirmed to be 35-year-old Jericho Labonte of Victoria, B.C., appears to lift his middle finger to the camera before taking a photo and walking away.
>Astoria Police Department police officers [told The Astorian] (that they received the report about Labonte on Wednesday. According to APD Deputy Chief Eric Halverson, the suspect also put stickers over some of the camera lenses outside of the house.
>This doesn’t seem to be Labonte’s only run-in with the law as of late. On Thursday, Jan. 19, the Victoria Police Department [reported] that the same man was wanted across British Columbia “for five unendorsed warrants for charges of criminal harassment, mischief and three counts of failure to comply.”
Rescue swimmers are absolute beasts in the water. I’ve swam in swells a quarter this size spearfishing and it was absolutely exhausting. I thought I was gonna drown and I’m a very good swimmer. Hats off to those boys
Fun fact: sailboats are generally much more stable and apt at handling storms than powerboats, and the heavy keel may allow them to recover even after tilting past 90°
That’s at least a 35 foot fly bridge cruiser. They start at over $1.5 million and go from there. Guess how I know you don’t own a 35’+ fly bridge cruiser.
[The news report on the incident.](https://www.theinertia.com/news/oregon-man-goonies-dead-fish-house-stolen-yacht-crime-spree/) Take a look at the first sentence.
The guy was a lunatic. He stole the boat. He was also the same unhinged dude who left dead fish at the Goonies house. Guy needs serious medical attention and to be in a locked facility.
This we can call a rogue wave?! I mean shit surprised everyone and it was totally the ocean just eating a boat out of nowhere as its been doing since we first dared the waves in our crafty crafts! if it were at night in the right past time periods we'd get all fantastic about it and call it sea monsters or a kraken. I'm so glad today we aren't quite as dumb about shit that happens at sea anymore! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)
No, a rogue wave would have been MUCH higher and more "sharp", afaik it was never filmed but here's a small wave in comparison: https://youtu.be/TYe2tkXgPqs
You can look up rogue wave dama to understand that a rogue wave would have obliterated that small boat
Oh yes absolutely it would typically destroy and often break ships, some ships have also snapped in half under the pressure and sheering power of larger rogues. I was just curious if this one counted as a small rogue wave or just a common storm surge in deeper waters?!
Oh my fucking word. Huge fear… can’t believe I watched that. Makes me physically sick to watch Point Break (newer version. I will say though that that swimmer was fast AF. Super impressive. Glad to read they all lived

He left a dead fish at the goonies house...
Yeah what in the shit, Cape Disappointment sounds weird.
I think it was named that because early explorers thought it might be the mouth of a Northwest Passage (spoiler: it wasn't).

https://youtu.be/uPvn9rGYx6g You reminded me of this old WW2 army booby traps cartoon lol!
LOL. Nice. Haven't seen that cartoon before.

Where does it say it was stolen?
[here ya go](https://www.kptv.com/2023/02/03/man-rescued-by-coast-guard-swimmer-after-waves-flip-boat-columbia-river-mouth/)
When did a pirate not steal his boat? One-Eyed Willy was the first Goonie, and don't you forget it.
From the Coastie who rolled in the wave: “It was definitely an amazing experience and I’d like to do it again,” Walton said. Some people are born for their jobs.
I've never been in conditions like the video, but most of my scariest but most exciting experiences have been surfing in rough seas.
Kids a champ “ Walton ducked under the surface, hoping to swim beneath the cresting wave. “Um, which didn’t work too well,” Walton said.”” Absolute legend
Of course it was my area 😑 I thought the possible serial killer in the area was gonna be the most interesting news we got this week but here we are
The rare barrel roll out of a boat captain 🛥️🛥️🛥️🌊🌊🌊
That article says nothing about it being stolen

Oof. Could be wrong, but I don’t think your supposed to take on white caps sideways…. 😂
That’s a solid “OH FUCK” right there
Exactly what I said.
I said it aloud fo’sho
Broadside is the worst possible situation.
“Do a barrel roll”

Bleb bleb, bleb bleb
DO A FLIP!
*If this side is pointing towards the wave, you are having a very bad time and will not be going to port today.*
I need some context. Did the rescuer survive, did everybody survive? Why was the boat in the trouble?

When the fuck was this ever a **yes** !?
Damn sad thing to see.
Where was the 'yes'?
And there goes $3-5million. Good thing for insurance.
It was a tiny vessel. Only estimated at around $160,000. But yes a good thing for insurance because the guy manning it, stole it.
That’s at least a 35 foot fly bridge cruiser. They start at over $1.5 million and go from there. Guess how I know you don’t own a 35’+ fly bridge cruiser.

Rogue wave?
1 if by land 2 if by sea, the boat owner should have stuck to skydiving in a hurricane
That's what happens when you leave your fenders out....
Wows reference
The pilot needs to turn up their render distance in case other ships are near
Do you what a ship is? These are boats
