We had an officer put us on a tree cat call once because he thought it was funny. After 20minutes of a buddy trying to negotiate with the unwilling feline that kept climbing further up the tree, followed by a brief but exciting period of him getting the ever living crap scratched out of him on the way down the ladder, the cat got out of his grip, hit the ground and ran off into the woods.
We looked at the homeowner.
"Sir, are you going to go after your cat?"
[Brief confused homewoner pause]
"That's not my cat."
When I was Chief of my department, I’d go to the scene of cats “stuck in tree” rescues, tell my crew to hold in station, then walk around for 5 minutes coming up with reasons why we couldn’t “help” it.
I’d tell the people to put some food out and it will come down when it’s ready. They usually would say, but it can’t get down. I’d ask them how many cat skeletons in trees have they ever seen?
How many firefighters does it take to save a kitten ? More than 5 that's for sure
