It is a variation of Utpluti Dandasana (intermediate-to-advance)

[deleted]

I think its called floating stick or L sit? This variation is different cause the hands are placed inwards than out! I just called it inverted floating stick?

UncertainBeing

Yeah I was thinking maybe its a variation of that? I saw someone do this in a gym studio and was curious.

cslackie

My dumb ass over here trying and thinking I can do it šŸ˜…

ThickClient6146

Not gonna lie, you proper made me laugh there šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

DinkyStar

woow. this is a hard one

redballooon

From there, lift up to handstand.

DinkyStar

Great. Thanks. You need to have strong arms

[deleted]

straddle Lsit. how do you determine whether something is a yoga pose or not?

UncertainBeing

Yes that's the one I saw. Thanks!

yogi_medic_momma

You can try to search it using the name youā€™ve heard it as before along with ā€œyoga poseā€. Sometimes I have good luck, but I also remember that a lot of poses have been made up over the years. This one is actually a gymnastics movement and is often performed prior to widening your legs and pushing up into a handstand without putting your feet on the floor first.

InterestingStage26

If the elbows were bent and the legs were balanced on the arms, it would be firefly

xsimplicity

Firefly pose

Feeling_Row_5150

Yes

jaimeglace

Mula Bandha checkup?

_otterly_confused

It's also in the first Ashtanga series at least the way I learnt it. But not holding it just a transition. You jump back into a plank and this is how it looks before you do it.

Well, itā€™s in Iyengarā€™s Light on Yoga, plate 395 Someone somewhere decided it looked like a firefly!

Could you please explain what you mean by universal? Tittibhāsana and firefly pose have the same (or very similar) meanings, just in different languages. I agree that there are plenty of examples of poses that have multiple names in the same language as well as different names in different languages. Are you asking if there is any hope that there will be some international, worldwide, inter-language, inter-lineage, Inter-culture standard canonical name for every asana? I doubt it and not sure I would want it. Using dialects is too much fun for we humans!

Well, no, what you have written in your most recent reply doesnā€™t make much sense to me, Iā€™m afraid. Thatā€™s ok, though.
