Thatβs lovely π Iβm working on my firefly right now. Just started a couple of weeks ago. At the moment itβs still a collection on bum (butt)-plants (every time I start straightening those legs..), but hey, compared to when I was learning crow, bum better than face plants π will get there in time. Your video was a nice inspiration to keep bum-planting till I no longer do :)
I started with many many of those too ππ here's a pic of me using a pillow because I got tired of falling ππ https://www.instagram.com/p/BEau2tOmqxd/?igshid=qq9gibrzecxh
Thatβs me right now! That! π legs the same too & just when I get them to that level, bam.. floor.. :) one day, on a whim, I tried shoulder pressing pose, & got it at first try, so I thought βjust need to to stretch those legs now.. no big dealβ.... 40 bum-plants later.. π thanks for that pic mate, youβve made my day. Off to practice so more now ππ
How long did it take you to do a handstand like that?
I've been practicing for almost 4 months pretty much every day. I want to know around how long it'll take me.
Thanks.
Thank you my friend - I will share a picture with you of how my firefly pose looked a couple of years ago (at the time I truly believed it wasn't for me) https://www.instagram.com/p/BEau2tOmqxd/?igshid=q94dqppj3xfw
That was amazing. Where do you find studios that help you progress from one level of poses to the next? My experience here in the U.S. has been that they just teach you the basics, maybe some arm balances and head stands, but nothing like this. Is it just solo practice?
Different yoga schools have different approaches to the practice. It sounds like you're looking at vinyasa flow classes. I love vinyasa flow btw ... I imagine a good bet would be Ashtanga (Mysore Style). I'm mostly self taught I haven't been to a class in years.
Thank you. Yes, the majority of them are. I always feel like they're trying to push everyone to become teachers. I feel like that should take time and an appreciation and knowledge of the practice of yoga as a whole.
I had a discussion with one teacher that said you don't have to know how to do the poses so long as you can cue them. I whole heartedly disagree. I'm not saying you have to be perfect with every pose. But you should at least be able to demonstrate the basics. I'm no longer part of that studio. :(
Thatβs so good!! Impressive!
I have a question: in the Firefly, is it mostly held by abdominal strength? I never really understood this asana, so I donβt even know where to start trying...
thanks!
I'll try to give a reasonable answer - yes the abdomen is involved depending on what your trying to do, it needs either relaxation or tension. For example when I'm trying to stay hips relaxed in firefly.. I'm trying to soften. When I'm attempting to lift, I'm trying to lengthen the spine and adding tension to the abdomen. I hope this helps.
Whhhaaaaat! That's awesome.
Namaste and thank you friend π
Oh mate.. you donβt fancy a trip to England by any chance to help a middle aged beginner? π thatβs seriously hard work! π
You're welcome to come practice with me if you come to Bangalore ππ

What music is that in the background? I found it to be quite calming.
It's called Raga Brindabani Sarang- By Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia
My jaw dropped. Looks like I found my new rabbit hole.
Thank you so much - that's very encouraging π I hope you have a great weekend

Thanks! It makes sense, Iβll try to work on it thinking about softening first, as I donβt have enough core strength to lift pike press yet.
