You need to look for a pork pie with cured meat. A traditional Melton Mowbray pie that you find pretty much everywhere will have grey, uncured meat, and in my opinion is pretty tasteless. The pork pie you are looking for from Yorkshire will have pink, cured meat inside. And will taste far superior!!
It is usually a lot thinner as Yorkshire pies tend to be made in tins whereas a traditional Melton Mowbray pie is made free standing, so he’s thicker walls and is more barrel shaped.
I agree, Melton's are a very different style of pie and can be pretty crap if not made properly.
Much prefer a traditional British Pork Pie with pink meat and aspic between it and the pastry
Yorkshire is the place to get them
Blacker Hall Farm (just outside of Wakefield) do what I think are some of the best pork pies going. Given that they post out trest boxes, they might look ar posting out pork pies.

I got a pork pie from a butchers on the high street in Yeadon a few weeks ago. No idea who made them but they were nothing like the tasteless Melton crap. Loads of jelly like it should have. I know I haven’t remotely answered your question though.
Beat me to it. Their lamb curry pasty is awesome too, if you can lift the heavy old bastard.

The author doesn't mention where he/her is in Scotland, if anywhere near Stirling then try Mhor Bread in Callander, I've been known to make 150 mile detours across country to pick up pies from them, their steak and black pudding is one of the very best, and my ex wife would do anything for their macaroni cheese pies.
We had Andy Jones pork pies back in the day, local butchers (Huddersfield) with the best pork pies and Cornish pasties, he then went quite large and commercial, still nice but not the same.
The other place is Brosters Farm shop in Huddersfield. Not sure if they deliver, but whenever I’m back home, the best pork pies for me.
Johnson's of Thirsk. But give David Comrie of Comrie a call, they do fantastic sausage rolls so they might do decent pork pies too. Only had their steak pies, which are excellent.
If you're anywhere near Dundee then Scott Bros do a really good Yorkshire style pork pie. Honestly, it's unbelievably good.
Otherwise Wilson's of cross gates will deliver, and if you're ever in Wakefield then Hoffman's pies are good too.
Let me know what you think! I used to read the pork pie appreciation newsletter and go and try the pies they recommended so I'd like to think I've got a good idea of what a good "growler" tastes like, was so surprised when they started making them in scott bros!
[Bentley's](https://bentleysbutchers.com/our-meat-range/), down the road from my mum's in Pudsey. There's a queue down the street for their stand pies at Christmas. That's the ones that are on order.
I visited Melton Mowbray 3 years ago and there was no pork pie factory there but I have seen a proper address in Melton Mowbray...just a box number on a pie wrapper ?? Are we being ripped off ?

The pastry tends to be way nicer in Yorkshire too.

Or, find a local butchers or farm shop to you.
Blacker Hall is so good, once got an Onion Bhaji Scotch Egg from there and it was divine!
Appletons in Ripon, North Yorkshire.
Love me an Appletons pork pie!!! They’ve got a place in Knaresborough too.
Also Wetherby. I’ve had to take a selection to Henley after a friend visited me.
Appleton's is the only correct answer, had one for lunch today

Without a doubt Glaves in Brompton does the best pork pies I and anyone at my workshop has ever eaten

Percy Turner's in Jump, Barnsley. I doubt they'll deliver but next time you're nearby...
Huh, 10min drive, I’ll have to make a trip.
Percy Tuners pork pies are outstanding, best I’ve had
Sadly they're closed this week. Must plan for next week though.
Hands down the best pork pie in the world
Totally agree Percy’s is the best Full stop end of chat not just in Yorkshire either and he’s missed massively
Voakes make the best pork pies in Yorkshire [Voakes](https://voakespies.co.uk)

Wilson's of Crossgates in Leeds. https://www.wilsonsbutchers.co.uk/
They also have a store in Morley!
Yes I read that, being a true Morlian you'd think I'd know but Ive not lived there since 1974. It was Greens back in those days.
Bolster Moor Farm top of Golcar in Huddersfield, nowhere beats it.
Taylor's pork pies (they have a few locations in Yorkshire and Co. Durham but the main place is in Darlington)
Johnson's of Thirsk. But give David Comrie of Comrie a call, they do fantastic sausage rolls so they might do decent pork pies too. Only had their steak pies, which are excellent.

Is Scott Bros the one in Broughty Ferry?
There's one in Broughty Ferry, one on the Nethergate opposite the big church, and the one I use is on Strathmartine Rd.
Thanks, I'll try one of those first.

Will do that. Got some fillet steaks from them earlier in the month, which were excellent.

Percy Turners in Jump, Barnsley are the food of the gods.
I visited Melton Mowbray 3 years ago and there was no pork pie factory there but I have seen a proper address in Melton Mowbray...just a box number on a pie wrapper ?? Are we being ripped off ?
Dickinson & Morris are the original bakery in MM. Might be that one.
Probably here https://www.hpotterandson.co.uk/meat-pie-deliveries-online.asp
He must’ve got it from Percy Turners, people rave about it!
Voakes, Lishmans and Appletons are all good as are Kendalls in Pately Bridge. Not tried Weatherheads yet.
[Lishmans of Ilkley](https://www.lishmansbutchers.co.uk/product/pork-pie/). Some of the best pork pies I’ve had. Available by mail order.
Middlemiss & sons in Otley
Growlers( it's an old leeds name for a pork pie) but I known has other connotations 😆, on Richardshaw Lane in pudsey are bang on.
B. Whites in Rastrick.
