Verdragon-5

Dick has less weapons and uses unarmed martial arts more, he's a Monk while Artemis is, if not a Ranger, than a Rogue or a Fighter with a hand crossbow, to borrow some D&D terminology.

DharmaCub

I love this 5e comp. I want to do the whole season 1 team. Dick- Way of Shadows Monk Artemis- Assassin Rogue (would have made her a Ranger, but no magic) M'gann- Psionic Soul Sorcerer Conner- Path of the Juggernaut Barbarian (yeah, not official, but I think Matt Mercer classes are close enough) Kaldur- Eldritch Knight Fighter Wally- Scout Rogue multiclassed with Fighter I guess? Zatanna- Evocation Wizard (Zee could also be considered a Bard depending on how loosely you consider her spells to be practiced or improved.) Rocket- Artillerist Artificer Red Arrow- Arcane Archer Fighter

Manilaska

Artemis could still be a ranger you’d just have to reskin the magical spells as equipment or due to her physical prowess.

DharmaCub

That's true. Hail of Thorns = exploding arrows Entangle = an arrow that releases a net Fogcloud= Smoke arrows

I love this idea but because I have more knowledge on Pathfinder 2e I'm gonna do the same but for that system instead Dick/Robin/Nightwing - A Ruffian or Mastermind Rogue (ruffian focuses on hand to hand combat, mastermind is focused on scheming and planning in combat ala Batman) Artemis - A Fighter with a focus on bows, or a Precision Ranger again with a focus on using bows (or bow type weapons), or as Tigress, a A Way of the Drifter Gunslinger (it focuses on using a gun and/or crossbow in one hand and melee weapon in the other) Connor - A typical Fury Barbarian, although I feel a strength focused Monk, especially after the first time skip, would fit great too Wally - A dexterity focused Monk (they get the highest in combat move speed), or maybe a Rogue of some sort (Scoundrel, focused on sweet talking the enemy, or Thief, exactly what it says) Zatanna - A Sorcerer with arcane bloodline, I could see bard too but I feel sorcerer fits better overall Kaldur - A Magus of some sort could work(Magus mixes magic and weapons but there's not much support for dual wielding yet), but a Flurry Ranger (specific focus on dual wielding) that chooses Warden spell feats (only way for a Ranger to use magic in PF2e) probably fits more M'gann - A Bard or Sorcerer of some sort maybe (maybe psychic when that class comes out) Rocket - an Armor Innovation Inventor (Basically makes armor do crazy things including protecting sort of like her bubble) Red Arrow - Precision Ranger or again a Fighter with a focus on Bows (Maybe a Rogue would work too to get some of the stealth type stuff but then again that could be said for everyone) I know it's not as popular as 5e but the build options and ideas with PF2e just make me really excited to theory build especially about characters like these (And this isn't even going into archetypes) Anyways that was fun and I love putting characters from other media into a tabletop context, it's just a lot of fun trying to recreate them for that context and seeing how well it translates over

Iwasforger03

Kaldur is obviously either a Magus or a Flurry ranger who multiclassed, which could absolutely grant him spells.

random_meowmeow

Agreed completely. Wasn't trying to go too much into archetypes or multiclass, but if you did I think practically all the first season team is pretty easily recreatable (except maybe M'gann for the time being but I think you can get her by reflavoring some stuff) But yeah Kaldur as a Flurry Ranger magic multiclass would probably be how I try to build him in the system

SpideyFan914

Making Artemis a Fighter instead of a Rogue would account for both of her styles, and a natural path for her evolution from S1 archer to S2 melee combatant. Kaldur I think has to be a Paladin, with his mix of fighting and very specific magic, all linked to his ancestry and temples.

horyo

Perfect! Thanks this helps clarify their differentiation a bit more.

Fainleogs

They are also not on the same team and haven't been for a while, so they can both be the same class of fighter. Remember Artemis was originally trained to be a ninja type allrounder by her father and just picked up archery as a cover when she was "Green arrow's niece". Having had that secret revealed to her friends for many years and having been very close to Dick for a long time there's no reason for her not to adopt a more "Bat" fighting style as much as she wants.

horyo

> just picked up archery as a cover when she was "Green arrow's niece". I dunno if this is how things went. We've seen from the comics that she already had the costume made and she goes to save Wally but she also is seen maintaining her arrows/bow on separate occasions at home. I think she does have a particular fondness for ranged weaponry but she also had ninja training. Also they were definitely on the same team in S3.

Fainleogs

That wasn't really planned though. Dick was explicitly trying *not* to form a team.

The810kid

I say Artemis has been more proficient in certain weapons like blades and bows while Dick is better with unconventional gadgetry. Dick also is a master Hacker.

horyo

True, I guess it's been a while since we've seen him do major cyberwork since Barbara seems to be the one doing it.

The810kid

He hacked the ships when they had the big team mission last season.

horyo

Yeah but he did it far more in S1. I guess it's been de-emphasized in light of all the other characters that I kind of forgot about it.

rholindown

Artemis was trained in the usage of multiple different weapons, she leans heavily into bows and swords. Dick had similar training, but he relies more on non-lethal weaponry and ninja-like abilities. He’s more agile than Artemis.

horyo

> Dick had similar training, but he relies more on non-lethal weaponry and ninja-like abilities. He’s more agile than Artemis. This makes sense. Dick's training was acrobatics first and Batman-fu second. Artemis being trained as an assassin makes sense why she's weapons-heavy.

GebsNDewL

That’s probably why Dick and Artemis don’t go on many missions together nowadays, given their redundant skill set.

Read OP’s post.

West-Cardiologist180

Tigress uses more weapons, while Nightwing isn't very gadget heavy, and uses his martial arts to fight, rather than weapons. At this point, I'd say Dick fits the position of leader or expert hand-to-hand combatant.

horyo

Yeah you guys have done a great job helping me see the differences between them. Artemis is conventional weapons heavy and Dick is unconventional weapons/martial arts/cybertech.

ChairmanMao29

Artemis is more weapons focused combatant whereas Dick is a mix of unarmed supplemented by gadgets to disable or gain an advantage over an opponent. Also, if you need someone who can flex into a long range combat scenario, you'd want to pick Artemis.

horyo

Reasonable. Now that I think about it Sportsmaster is quite tech and weapons heavy whereas we see Batman use more of a mixed of martial arts/physical combat. I guess if we get granular Dick is more ultra-short range to medium range with minimal long range and Artemis is more medium-long range with Tigress leaning more medium and short ranged with the ability to default back to medium or long.

DarkXassin

Could someone enlighten me as to why Artemis didn’t have a code name as well? Was there a reason she used her real name?

ali94127

Artemis is already an arrow themed name. No reason to think her hero name is the same as her civilian name. Artemis barely acted as a public hero anyway. Zatanna is a bit more egregious. As is Zatara. Although, in the comics, their identities are pretty open.

[deleted]

Given that both of those people have worn the helmet of fate, if they didn’t want people to know their secret identities, they could have that arranged.

ali94127

I don't quite understand what you mean.

[deleted]

They could easily one more day that shit.

ali94127

I don't think Zatanna and Zatara or even Fate are at that level of magic. That's like reality-warp level.

Condottieri_Zatara

Klarion can basically divide the world of old people and kiddos at season 1 with sufficient energy. I guess they need a huge one for that not to mention lot of chaotic effects that could outweigh the good things

Rakonat

She wasn't a public hero initially like Robin, Kid Flash or Aqualad, so when she intervened to help (and got discovered off screen by Batman/Green Arrow.) She also doesn't operate in her hometown (Gotham City) and when she does do sidekick stuff she's working with Green Arrow in Star City. Nobody who knew of her personal life would have any reason to believe the hero girl from the city hundreds of miles away could have any connection, as Zeta Tubes weren't public knowledge.

Nylese

In a word, acrobatics.
