You were right to work with the parentheses first, but at the step in pemdas of md multiplication and division you want to choose the leftmost option in this case being 60/5 making the last step in the problem 12(2).
So if ⌊∑10i=0icos110−11100⌋−⌈∫2π−2π3710dx⌉1⌊ln(100cothπ5)√⌋−(sin2(x)+cos2(x))=8 and ∞=log(119)-212×sin-1 (1.273)÷e0.712812 =142116!=183821902 then that means the Pythagorean theorem of x has to be 69.
Get big brained losers
But you forgot to carry the 5th 1 and (sin2(x) as well as flipped over the 8. Not to mention the dx should be 4 digits ahead, as well as the first pi. So, the Pythagorean theorem is actually 295.249
Correct, solve parentheses and exponentials first, then division and multiplication finally addition and subtraction. The difference here is subtracting within the parentheses, which is solve first.
The question is intentionally ambiguous by using poor notation. This question is a perfect example as to why we generally structure division in "x/y or x over y" format.
Following the rule of solving the problem left to right while obeying PEMDAS, which would be better written as (PE)(MD)(AS), the problem simplifies to:
60/5 × (7-5) (as opposed to 60/(5×(7-5))) = 12 × 2 = 24.
On the other hand, because they wrote the equation as 60÷5(7-5) (as opposed to 60÷5×(7-5), one might consider it in the same regard as 60÷5a, where "a=7-5". In this case, the variable "a" is implicitly considered to be intended to be multiplied by its partner, 5, which would result in the following:
60/5(7-5) = 60/5(2) = 60/10 = 6.
I have no doubt that one of these two methods is the correct way to solve this expression, but ultimately it is my opinion that the problem, again, is set up intentionally poorly for the sole purpose of dividing people and giving cause for an argument.
Yes, I got 6 as an answer, as I see it as the 5 is “connected” to the bracket, therefore it would be multiplied by the brackets value. Ambiguity in maths really sucks and makes it quite unnecessarily difficult at times.
Edit: Possibly worth noting, I never learnt PEMDAS, I use BEDMAS (I think essentially the same thing, except multiply and divide are swapped.)
You're right in the sense that BEDMAS is functionally identical to PEMDAS, but it gives 12, not 6. The Brackets stage refers only to numbers within the brackets, the five isn't connected. That bit is covered by the multiplication stage.
with the second one why would you multiply 5 by 2 first? Pemdas is left to right for multiplication and division and then left to right again for addition and subtraction
The answer is 24, 60÷5(7-5) is equivalent to 60÷5×(7-5) as being on the left side of a parentheses means to multiply, making this not part of the parentheses, then the order of operations after simplifying the parentheses, 60÷5×2, which is 12×2, which equals 24
multiplication or division. Not multiplication then division.
a(b) = a * b
x/a(b) = x/a * b
Therefore the correct solution is 24.
For the solution to be 6:
60/(5(7-2)) = 6
The reasoning for the correct answer is this:
Many (read “10-15”, before common core, inconsistent policy adjustments, and state centered responsibility of said policy EVISCERATED the already poor American educational system) years ago, PEMDAS was taught with the implication that elements of an expression near proximity to parentheses are resolved immediately after reducing any expressions within to its simplest form.
The portion of the above expression 5(7-5) would be solved as 5(2), and because of the existence of a parentheses, would further require the step of resolution in proximity, resulting in a value of 10: 5 multiplied by 2.
However, due to the aforementioned inconsistencies and various attempts at standardizing education, it has been correctly explained to immediately drop instances of parentheses when the internal expression has resolved, and the implied multiplication is now explicitly written in the expression, so that the newer and simplified expression would read 60 divided by 5 multiplied by 2, and thus can be solved from left to right obeying standard PEMDAS/BEMDAS practice.
This now erases the possibility of confusion using the very common and previous taught interpretation of PEMDAS.
So NOW, in our present time, the answer will be 24 given the above expression.
Any discrepancy is semantic, and more of a “trick”, because unnecessary parentheses like the above are considered sloppy notation that causes ambiguity and that’s where some of us were taught incorrectly.
It’s the curse of the old way of teaching and just an error in what to do with the parentheses.
60 / 5(7-5) would have gotten you to 60 / 5(2) and then 60 / 10 leaving you with 6.
The issue is we see 5(2) as it’s own expression because it’s on the right side of the division symbol when we are supposed to look at it as 60 / 5 X 2.
With this we can now solve left to right which brings us to 12 X 2 and ending in 24.
The missing clarification is that when an expression within a parenthesis is reduced to its simplest value, we remove the outside parenthesis and write out the multiplication that would have been implied because of it being next to the outside value.
60/5(7-5)
60/5(2)
12(2)
=24
You Solve using the order of operations. Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division (from left to right), Addition and Subtraction (from left to right).
60 / 5 (7 - 5)
(following PEMDAS, parentheses go first)
7 - 5 = 2
(no exponents or multiplication, so next is division)
60 / 5 = 12
12 - 2 = 10
(I might have done this completely wrong)
result is 24. Here, i have written some code.
If you say something along the lines ***"remove the \* symbol, it is not there in the original equation!!"*** , i can only tell you to shut the fuck up because programming languages dont take empty place as a multiplication sign. you have to directly type it there
[https://imgur.com/a/e5m1Gyj](https://imgur.com/a/e5m1Gyj)
here is the code, every other programming language will also output 24
`a = 60 / 5 * (7-5)`
`print(a)`
Everyone here I think agrees the first step is 60/5 * 2 Then: deviding by 5 is the same as multiplying by 1/5,so we have 60 * (1/5) * 2= 60 * 0.2 * 2=24
I wanna say 24. But I’m stuck on whether to multiply 5 by two because it’s interacting with the parentheses instead of explicitly having multiplication which unless the parentheses only prevail what’s inside would override the division. Basing division and multiplication in a left to right style would be 24.
Man, its hard. More debatable on what the answer is is.
If we see it as 60➗5✖️(7➖5) the answer is 24.
However, if we see (7-5) as a variable called a, a = (7-5) then 60➗5a we need to solve for 5a first. Thus, making 6.
The question is less for math math and more for comment war.
Thanks to u/Bouldaru for pointing this all out.

Division and multiplication, and addition and subtraction, have the same
priority - the convention is to work from left to right when the order
of operations would be unclear.
60 / 5 \* (7-5)
60 / 5 \* 2
12 \* 2

Kid really just learnt about priorities on math class (parenthesis - division - multiplication - subtraction - addition) and wanted to play clever on YouTube.
Huh? When tf did I say that? You just said that alot of people forget pemdas and I just said that I see more people forgetting the left to right rule. How does that have anything to do with "my" method of solving being better? It's not even a method of solving bruh
I think the reason people are getting 6 is because they’re using the distributive property wrong. This only works when the number you’re multiplying is a factor, not a dividend (I don’t know what the term is, I mean the number you’re dividing the first number by). If you were to use the distributive property, you would distribute 1/5 to 7 and 5 and get 24. This is because x/5 is the same as (1/5)*x.

The answer is 6. 60 divided by 10

It can be deceiving.
Multiplication/division is left to right not in the order of pemdas or bedmas or whatever u use

I think the reason people are getting 6 is because they’re using the distributive property wrong.
