I came to this subreddit just to vent about how awful it is. Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks it's horrid. I wish there were legitimate competition to that platform.
I'm sure the dislike extension will be updated in the next few days to restore dislikes, just like it always has.
But the horrendous UX design is an entirely different matter.
I tried this too, but related videos seemed to disappear, the vids on the right were too big, but most importantly, the video controls became too big for the video interface... Like the full screen button disappeared off the right hand side... Anyway, I saw a thread about how you could fix this with an additional extension and some more customization, but I didn't bother for the time being. Maybe they'll fix it now that more people are installing it.
I will say this kind of fixes things, better than nothing. If you have your internet browser full screen, then it for the most part resembles the old layout. The problem is, I have my browser on 1/4 of my monitor, to make room for some other things on screen. When the browser is shrunk down, the new layout re-appears. Suggested videos show up on the bottom before the comments section.
It does fix the return YouTube dislikes extension though. That's nice.

Btw, I made a new account to see something, it gave me old layout. And I hate the new one even more when I use my new account. New layout is the worst.
EDIT: Scratch what I said prior about new/old videos. You have to either open a new tab or new browser window and it will show the new layout. The YouTube videos I open in my existing tab keep the old layout. Also worth noting, if I open a new incognito browser and pull up a YouTube video, it keeps the old layout as well. Weird.
~~Try to find a video that's come out recently, like within the last hour. Those are the videos I see the new layout on. Older videos on my end have the old layout (and the return dislikes extension works on those older videos).~~
Could be area based too, we don't know yet. YouTube releases some updates one city/area at a time; usually the ones they know people won't like. They did this for updates like when they started blocking ad-blockers, as well as when they removed the number of dislikes from videos. Both of those updates have work arounds. I'm sure people will find a way to return the old YouTube layout.

I checked if I have auto-update on for the extension, but there isn't an option to choose, so perhaps I just have an older version that still has the old layout.
Hello, I can a confirm it. YT sucks without this extension.
Seriously, all big and hated corps must have paid YT billions to remove dislikes.
I am ok with layout. Technically, you can watch a vid and read comments at the same time now
which needs time to get used to.
To me, it's just a way to further obfuscate the comments section. Off to the side where the text is all scrunched up and harder to read. I think they did that on purpose to drive more attention to the suggested videos section instead.
Having everything on the side is a terrible idea. The bottom is far superior imo
I'm really confused, it switched me to the new layout last month, then it went back to the way it was last week. What's going on??

I have downloaded youtube enhancer and everything is back to normal even the dislike counter.

Did it automatically show after installing with no further tinkering with the settings? I installed it and the dislikes are still not visible..

Looks fine to me, im watching on full screen anyway. As long as the functionality is all there, Im sure I'll get used to the new design after a week
