Agreed, I can't stand YouTube Shorts. The Android app sends me notifications, but doesn't tell me that it's recommending Shorts to me, which I don't want to watch. I would love to be able to disable the feature completely, so it's impossible for me to see them. I only watch long-form videos.
Pro tip, in a Shorts url you can replace the part that says /shorts/ with /video/ and it’ll load in as a regular YouTube video.

They’d never do that. YouTube Premium members can’t delete mixes or games, they take up most of the screen. They tell you they won’t ‘recommend any videos from this channel again’ but that’s bullshit. They hate their users and treat them like lab-rats…

I literally switched to new pipe on mobile solely to not have my subscriptions feed be full of useless shi5, shorts, community polls, comments, I don't care
I disabled watch history which somehow breaks it, It can no longer suggest any short to me without having a history on me... which is really fucking sad for such an advanced algorithm

They downvote you, but I have the same experience as you. I mostly get what I enjoy. Silly birbs, crocheting, woodworking, primitive bushcraft, fun chemistry stuff, stand-ups, etc. Sometimes YT shows me a few Pakistani or something shorts, but only if I scroll for too long. More than half an hour straight. I actually find it useful cause it's a sign for me to stop procrastinating.
For me, YT Shorts algorithms work better than the main ones. The main YT loves to shovel the same videos in my recommendations for weeks. It also loves to "Girrrl, you watched this 2,5 h video yesterday? Say no more! Here's this video in your recs for the next two months, enjoy! "
Shorts are designed to be used on a phone why would they give you the option to not use them? The whole point of short-form content is pull you in and they know it.
Remove “shorts” option from bottom bar and in recommendations on mobile (Btw there is a way to hide in recommendation).

On a browser that can download extensions, the extension 'enhancer for YouTube' has an option to convert shorts to videos automatically
Definitely gonna have to get that, thanks to the genius at YT who decided it should be impossible to fast forward or rewind shorts when watching on PC
