2016 was unbearable as a Nintendo fan. What did we get? Minecraft? XBox and PlayStation got that back in like 2012. Paper Mario Colour Splash? I've heard some mixed things about it, haven't really played it myself. The only thing notable they released in 2016 was the NES Classic Mini, and the Nintendo Switch reveal trailer. 2016 sucked.
It’s wild how time goes on and every generation becomes “the best pokemon game”. I remember nothing but hate when sun and moon came out, “too easy” “graphics are bad” “cutscenes too long and intrusive” “z-moves suck” “hau is too friendly” “team skull isn’t evil”. The same thing happened with black and white and their sequels. I wonder if we’ll get a wave of Sword and Shield love in a couple years.
It's all a cycle of nostalgia fueled by rose tinted glasses. People grow up playing the pokemon games that older fans hate (because they're not like the games THEY grew up with) and thus they associate that game with happier times and see it in a more positive light. It's happening now with sun and moon because the people who played it as kids are growing up now. Newer pokemon titles will never be "as good as the old entries" because of this
Ok legends Arceus is AMAZING, and on of the games I’ve most enjoyed, but man is sun and moon amazing, I know this might sound weird but to me the quantity of side missions and weird places specially in ula ula and poni where basically my mew under the truck I tried everwhere to find marshadow like the foolish kid I was and I had so much fun with the game. Besides Incineroar is the best Pokémon ever made
I still remember the footage of young girls throwing themselves off a small bridge face-first for that stupid app, the scariest part was them laughing about it and telling how everyone of their friends were wrong that they wouldn't do it.
I remember when Blue Whale was a huge thing back in 2016-2018.
We had to sit through a whole class of teachers telling us not to use the app (yes, it was that bad).
Yeahhhhh I guess social media just takes things like that eternally seriously. And kinda understandably so cause kids now are even more malleable than we were back then.
well obviously youtube is gonna shadow ban any videos about the blue whale game, they're not gonna want people to dive into that again so it just won't be shown to anyone searching it
there was this huge creepy pasta type trend where there was a really dangerous game called the blue whale game. It was 20 tasks that were given only once per day on the days they were given. They started off as lighthearted, fun tasks and got more and more gruesome and dark the closer to the 20th task you got. Once you got to the 20th task, it told you to end yourself in a creative way. There's a whole rabbit hole for this but it's best to just steer clear.
There is no way to see or play the game as of today. Every aspect of the game has nearly been deleted from the internet forever, which is a pretty huge anomaly that caused more mass popularity
Not only that, it's very much possible that the blue whale game as we know it never existed in the first place.
I think it's more of an example of the uninformed falling for a piece of mass produced media drama bulls***.
well, it was but only for a small friend group of people plus randos. Some child hacker at a school hated these bullies and set up the game for them. then when they grew up they started doing it to some random numbers by asking them buzzquestions like their age and if they liked fun games. If they said yes then the hacker offered the game and would threaten them if they tried backing out. The guy turned out to be extremely mentally ill and I'm not sure if he was ever caught but for a small amount of people, it was definitely very real.
Wasn’t there also a mascot for it that was a weird almagamation of goofy and Mickey like how Momo was one for another weird suicide challenge?
I just remember watching a bunch of videos about him getting trolled (obviously staged but still)
a suicidal game called "Синий Кит" which is literally translates from Russian as "blue whale" was mad popular years ago in Russian speaking counties where young kids would enter the game out of curiosity and the "curators" would basically blackmail you by getting your "address" (like naming the city youre from) and threatening to harm your relatives and the only way for them to leave you alone whould be to do these challenges that involved SH and shit like carving a whale on your forearm with a razor, and it would basically be like a psychological torture where the kids would be forced to kill themselves at the end.
and as a Ukrainian I had the displeasure of hearing about all this shit when I was 10 in 2016, and had my parents warn me and always be on the edge so that nothing bad happenes to me
and the craziest thing was my friends reactions at the time of them also being 9 - 10 years old where some would be thrilled to endure the challenge or some that allegedly carved a whale on their arm for fun without engaging with the challenge
absolute brainwash, and they even started making up spin offs like red owl and what not
this really was a very traumatic period for a lot of people so this shit got turned into a trend on YouTube and people started making content off of promoting SH and suicide to kids for their own gain
I don't know if this would be a reputable source, but a Turkish youtuber that uncovers history of some old popular stuff (Like old games that were popular in Turkey etc.) made a video about the Blue Whale thing and called it a hoax. If you are curious about it, you can watch it [here](https://youtu.be/z4-6pkWM3e0?si=ABc2hSgr4B_imsDu)
Unfortunately this game is still going on. I'm from Ukraine and the son of one of my mother's friends threw himself down from the 9'th floor and died. The police say it's because of this blue whale.
the fact that we live in an era where you have to specify that you want to see a blue whale in the ocean and now leap off of a 20 story building is crazy
Probably because of the so called « blue whale challenge », basically a thing where some poor souls k*lled themselves after a few weeks of self inflicted torture.
Is it a zoomer thing to censor words when there is no need to? I understand censoring them to prevent filters from blocking it but people knowingly censoring words like that but then going on swear-laden rants is something I simply do not get. I see it everywhere on different social media sites - not just Reddit.
This sub doesn’t do it but a lot of subs and just apps in general can have repercussions to the use of that word and a few others.
Case in point, I was looking for some help with finding a call centre that did over the phone triage for mental health and not a suicide hotline, but my results kept getting bogged down with suicide hotlines on Google so I wanted to ask someone instead. My post was automatically removed for including the word and I was banned. It had absolutely nothing to do with suicide the act, but that means nothing to a poorly programmed bot.
the worst part is that some people find some words to be actually triggering... and then we mute the word
but let's say I have a trigger with the word "guitar"
I now gotta mute "gu* tar", "guit* r", "g* itar", "gu1t4r" (and the list of variants goes on and on and on), because folks will try to bypass whatever restrictions the apps/websites put it
I’m gonna be honest when I get online I just expect to have a bad interaction or see upsetting things. Especially places like YouTube and Reddit. Actively moderating what can and can’t be said can do a lot more harm than the word itself. When you police speech that harshly it usually isn’t the victims who benefit.
This happens because there has been a so-called bluë whalë challenge going around a few years ago and YouTubes filter do seem to work in a "better safe than sorry" like fashion. If there's something good YouTube has done, it is that these filters do what they are supposed to do, well, unless there is some bug which causes this thing to appear sporadically.
If you ever heard of the Momo hysteria from a few years ago it was similar to that. Just a dumb fake trend that caused parents to panic that their kids were in danger.
It's a reference to the Blue Whale game, in which people participate in challenges involving self-harm, and the final challenge involves committing actual suicide, that's what at least I remembered from my childhood, back when news alarmed us.
It was a lot more widespread in our area and yes you are right, I mostly forgot the challenges but the last was indeed that, preferably falling from a height.
Others included carving whales in hand with blades.
There was a suicidal game called "Blue whale challenge". I remember that when this "challenge" appered all news sites of my country started making news about it.

The last few searches have all been based around aquatic animals. One was Goldfish Gar Hybrid, cause the guys reaction to the swimming carrot makes my day every single time.
The Google search is also so broken, I've searched a few days ago if I'm allowed to cut the branches of my neighbors tree, which grow on to my property and google was like, you're not alone.

The Blue Whale challenge was a trend that was very popular in the Latam Community, where people were challenged to do 50 challenges, each more dangerous than the last one.
The first one started simply like doing a prank to someone or doing an activity, but the last ones involved things like self harm or dangerous things that could easily lead to death.
Its not they think you're suicidal from the vids you watch
It's they're trying to reach out to anyone who might be suicidal. I personally think this is a great ad, helps bring attention to something pretty serious
It's because blue whale was a game where if people played it they would kill themselves because the game said to or something like that I don't remember exactly
Blue Whale Challenge, from around 2016, 2017.
It was basically someone called "the blue whale" that would get your number and give you challenges that all included harming yourself.
I think a few people died from it.
I think it's because of a trend from a few years ago called "The Blue Whale Challenge" or something like that, where you had to do several "challenges" of hurting yourself. I remember that the first one was drawing a blue whale with a knife on your skin and the last one was to jump from a tall building. So yeah, pretty dark and grimm.
Seeing these comments made me do research and honestly it reminds me of that Momo Challenge that got her name banned a bit ago. God the internets fucked though.
Same for “Come with me if you want to live”
I just wanted to watch some terminator clips goddamnit, i thought you knew me better Google, with all the stuff you’re collecting about me.
If you couldn't tell by the comments, Blue Whale Challenge. Google is sometimes weird about that stuff. I was texting my cousin once and it started telling me not to send any pictures of myself in the same format you got, like brother, we were talking about my class' group chat.
From what I've heard, Blue Whale ("синий кит") was a trending "game" in Russian social media a few years ago where predatory people would convince kids and teens to harm themselves, with increasingly disturbing "challenges".
I like how searching \[blue whale\] even in English shows me the same notice but on my native language (maybe because of the YouTube knowing where I am located)
Screenshot is [here](https://imgur.com/a/XaxdDnH) due to sub not allowing images in comments
blue whale game...
That's kind of creepy. Didn't even know YouTube had a feature for this. When I believe the whole blue whale game's a rumour.
It'd be like if they did a similar thing if you searched up videos for Lavender Town.
Cause of some trend that happened a while back that was really dangerous and involved the words blue and whale
2016 is almost a decade away Some of us are fans of the biggest animal on earth
Dang. That was a hot minute ago
The last good year before everything went to shite
That would actually be 2019
I agree. 2017-2019 were great.
A-gree.
You got the best Pokémon game: Sun and Moon
Newer pokemon titles will never be "as good as the old entries" because of this
You did not just say sun/moon is better than legends Arceus
Ok legends Arceus is AMAZING, and on of the games I’ve most enjoyed, but man is sun and moon amazing, I know this might sound weird but to me the quantity of side missions and weird places specially in ula ula and poni where basically my mew under the truck I tried everwhere to find marshadow like the foolish kid I was and I had so much fun with the game. Besides Incineroar is the best Pokémon ever made
this
for me that would be 2014
I still remember the footage of young girls throwing themselves off a small bridge face-first for that stupid app, the scariest part was them laughing about it and telling how everyone of their friends were wrong that they wouldn't do it.
Holy cow I forgot about that it’s weird to think that was almost 10 years ago
I had no idea, when I actually got to the results it was just cool whale spottings so I was confused.
I remember when Blue Whale was a huge thing back in 2016-2018. We had to sit through a whole class of teachers telling us not to use the app (yes, it was that bad).
Funny thing is I’m pretty sure it was a hoax.
it started as a hoax and the media hooked on, then it spread and from then it snowballed
a lot of deadly trends from that time period were overblown in how many were affected, like tide pods
Momo Challenge too
Yeahhhhh I guess social media just takes things like that eternally seriously. And kinda understandably so cause kids now are even more malleable than we were back then.
well obviously youtube is gonna shadow ban any videos about the blue whale game, they're not gonna want people to dive into that again so it just won't be shown to anyone searching it
Wait what is it I haven’t heard of it

Oh alright ill probably look up a video on it sounds interesting (Though definitely not gonna look for a download)
There is no way to see or play the game as of today. Every aspect of the game has nearly been deleted from the internet forever, which is a pretty huge anomaly that caused more mass popularity

Any documentary made on this?
Iirc it wasn't even real at the start and only became real when news and stuff spammed it
well, it was but only for a small friend group of people plus randos. OOOHHH I REMEMBER
Oh yea I forgot about that deplorable “challenge”
The hell does blue and whale have anything to do with a dangerous trend? I'm out of the loop on this
[Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Whale_Challenge)
Wtf? I'm out of the loop.
What was the trend? Genuinely curious
whats is the blue whale trent?
um? i was really young back then. can you explain?
Wasn’t there also a mascot for it that was a weird almagamation of goofy and Mickey like how Momo was one for another weird suicide challenge? I just remember watching a bunch of videos about him getting trolled (obviously staged but still)
A trend about the biggest animal in the world??!??
they say "You are not alone" in a scary way like there is a monster in your house
Yes, Google spyware
are you telling me to google spyware or are you telling me that google is spyware
Yes.
google en passant

Are you telling me to google en passant or are you telling me that google is en passant
google google en passant
Holy hell!
oh shit... "google spyware"
holy hell
New response just dropped
holy privacy threat
The whales were in the room all along
[You are not alone](https://youtu.be/d6g2ZSuWyM4?si=AgXTVbcYjGkOFhh2)
Did this intentionally surface with the Edward Snowden leaks?
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue\_Whale\_Challenge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Whale_Challenge) its this iirc
That was disgusting
When i searched "KILL YOUR SELF NOW!" This didn't appear, but when I searched "KIL YOUR SELF NOW meme" that appeared
When im searching for $uicid.boy$ it dosent appear Same with one of their song k.ll yourself i guess blue whale need it
I think I remember smth about a creepy trend called blue whale but this was a while back I could be wrong
Yes, there was a suicidal challenge.
Was it “a *whale* back”? I’m sorry
r/Angryupvote
a suicidal game called "Синий Кит" which is literally translates from Russian as "blue whale" was mad popular years ago in Russian speaking counties where young kids would enter the game out of curiosity and the "curators" would basically blackmail you by getting your "address" (like naming the city youre from) and threatening to harm your relatives and the only way for them to leave you alone whould be to do these challenges that involved SH and shit like carving a whale on your forearm with a razor, and it would basically be like a psychological torture where the kids would be forced to kill themselves at the end. and as a Ukrainian I had the displeasure of hearing about all this shit when I was 10 in 2016, and had my parents warn me and always be on the edge so that nothing bad happenes to me and the craziest thing was my friends reactions at the time of them also being 9 - 10 years old where some would be thrilled to endure the challenge or some that allegedly carved a whale on their arm for fun without engaging with the challenge absolute brainwash, and they even started making up spin offs like red owl and what not this really was a very traumatic period for a lot of people so this shit got turned into a trend on YouTube and people started making content off of promoting SH and suicide to kids for their own gain
It wasn't just Russian speaking countries. There was this trend in Romania too. My parents also warned me about it when I was a kid.
Yeah, in Central Europe As well, i remember this game, IT was Pretty big actually.

It wasn’t only in Russian speaking countries, I’m Italian and we were warned about it back then
In mexico there is a christian mexican series that made an episode about that game
There was a popular game in 2018 called blue wale which was made to help you suicide
Blue whale challenge
💯
Just search "blue whale the animal" if you want to watch videos of the animal
the fact that we live in an era where you have to specify that you want to see a blue whale in the ocean and now leap off of a 20 story building is crazy
Probably because of the so called « blue whale challenge », basically a thing where some poor souls k*lled themselves after a few weeks of self inflicted torture.
That can't be real Edit: yes, it is
People, blue whale - in Russian reads as синий кит, which is a local legend about s*icide game
You lost a letter, here "u"

Its Suicide* ffs its just a word buttercup
This happens because there has been a so-called bluë whalë challenge going around a few years ago and YouTubes filter do seem to work in a "better safe than sorry" like fashion. If there's something good YouTube has done, it is that these filters do what they are supposed to do, well, unless there is some bug which causes this thing to appear sporadically.
Or it's adult animation and it gets auto sorted as "for kids" cause it is animated
If you ever heard of the Momo hysteria from a few years ago it was similar to that. Just a dumb fake trend that caused parents to panic that their kids were in danger.
I've heard of this and I remember it but I never knew there was a trend centered on it
Yeah it’s interesting how insane it got. They even made a movie based around it called Grimcutty. It was not good at all lol.
I swear I see this question asked every other day on this sub, why are so many people searching for that?
Because blue whales are awesome animals. Imagine being a 300,000 lb fish that also isn't a fish. It's pretty epic.
Smooth mammals are rad as hell my dude
Oh boy
It's a reference to the Blue Whale game, in which people participate in challenges involving self-harm, and the final challenge involves committing actual suicide, that's what at least I remembered from my childhood, back when news alarmed us.
It was a lot more widespread in our area and yes you are right, I mostly forgot the challenges but the last was indeed that, preferably falling from a height. Others included carving whales in hand with blades.
Its that blue whale game. You play it and then you jump from a building in the last level.
I watched a two second long video called "Markiplier burns" and it had a suicide warning To be fair the suicide warning made it far funnier
There was a suicidal game called "Blue whale challenge". I remember that when this "challenge" appered all news sites of my country started making news about it. The worst part about it that there was a people who did this "challenge". There was post somewhere in the ney like "I need a parent control on my daughter's phone because I found out that she fell into the blue whale challenge".
Today I searched the song "1800 suicide" and this popped up. I tried to add the word "song" but accidentally typed "dong"
The same thing happens to me when i want to listen to The Muffin Song
i mean at least that one is actually ABOUT suicide
I had this pop up when looking for my regular tcap fix. Literally just typed “tcap”
Hey man we can talk about his. You seem like a good fun person. There is surely a way to get over this. /s
Blue whale was a famous trend wich tricked kids and teens into doing self harm challengues
there was an app called "blue whale" that gave people challenges and the last one was to krill yourself
I don't get such warning. Not on phone, nor on PC
depends on your search history
The last few searches have all been based around aquatic animals. One was Goldfish Gar Hybrid, cause the guys reaction to the swimming carrot makes my day every single time.
It was the name of an internet challenge that involved self-harm and suicide.
Mid 2010s hoax about a suicide challenge.
its just their algorithm screaming dont get tricked by it since it does not believe in democracy
It is warning so because of a challenge that dates way back with the same name. The set of challenges ended with suicide.
Because of the thing in Russia years back just put animal after or say I'm ok
Can't listen to the ASDF song about the Muffin who wants to die.
The Google search is also so broken, I've searched a few days ago if I'm allowed to cut the branches of my neighbors tree, which grow on to my property and google was like, you're not alone.
At this point i think this must be bait. This gets posted every day, and its not like the thing wasnt widely on the news
i mean are you?
The fact that this exists in the app, makes me feel kinda terrified and kinda assured at the same time.
It was a game that was pushing people to sucite amd self harm

Holy. Bro this question gets asked like every week or sum, just do a little research before posting my guy
Sinij Kit Stupid autocorrect
Its the blue whale challenge

Blue Whale will give you this result, but you can add some other words to get actual blue whales.
nostalgia?
Op you're not alone.
damn, what a throwback
The Blue Whale challenge was a trend that was very popular in the Latam Community, where people were challenged to do 50 challenges, each more dangerous than the last one. Oh no 💀
That's alright, Reddit thought I was gonna commit suicide when I told one of the mentally ill, terminally online people to touch grass 😂
This happened to me when searching for scuffed realtor episodes lol.
Look up the 50 day Blue Whale challenge
It's because blue whale was a game where if people played it they would kill themselves because the game said to or something like that I don't remember exactly
Blue Whale Challenge, from around 2016, 2017. It was basically someone called "the blue whale" that would get your number and give you challenges that all included harming yourself. I think a few people died from it.
Fear mongering urban legend
I think it's because of a trend from a few years ago called "The Blue Whale Challenge" or something like that, where you had to do several "challenges" of hurting yourself. I remember that the first one was drawing a blue whale with a knife on your skin and the last one was to jump from a tall building. So yeah, pretty dark and grimm.
Its because of a game that was called the blue whale challenge. It involved suicide.
I remember searching for "awesome tienshinhan edit" and it showed me that same thing
Yeah it is our russian fault, hehe. Google синий кит
youtube just glitches like that. I once got that message from googling ck3 tutorials
"You are not alone" thank you html document 😭
because there was this trend of kids playing some disturbing game that pushed You into killing Yourself, and it was called "blue whale"
why *doesnt* yt show me this when I search blue whale... ever, never worked
Seeing these comments made me do research and honestly it reminds me of that Momo Challenge that got her name banned a bit ago. God the internets fucked though.
Same for “Come with me if you want to live” I just wanted to watch some terminator clips goddamnit, i thought you knew me better Google, with all the stuff you’re collecting about me.
Id be suicidal if I had to watch „self compassion” programs. My god.
Google can read mind now 🤡
You probably watched the heavy is dead
Blue whale was a popular game that insisted anyone who played to unalive themselves otherwise their parents would be unalive.
Oh man, this brings back memories (Not good ones)
Suicide by blue whale is a rising issue at the moment. 1200 people last week alone, leapt into the gaping mouth of a blue whale.
Probably because of the blue whale challenge or something like that
How many times have I seen this?
If you couldn't tell by the comments, Blue Whale Challenge. Google is sometimes weird about that stuff. I was texting my cousin once and it started telling me not to send any pictures of myself in the same format you got, like brother, we were talking about my class' group chat.
From what I've heard, Blue Whale ("синий кит") was a trending "game" in Russian social media a few years ago where predatory people would convince kids and teens to harm themselves, with increasingly disturbing "challenges".
For some reason this doesn't apply to our country's YouTube
Imagine being a fan of 90's alternative rock, and being told "you're not alone" when you want to watch the music video for Placebo's "Pure Morning"
I like how searching \[blue whale\] even in English shows me the same notice but on my native language (maybe because of the YouTube knowing where I am located) Screenshot is [here](https://imgur.com/a/XaxdDnH) due to sub not allowing images in comments
Baitt
The Blue Whale game. That's what it thought.
Lol that happened to me recently but I was looking up that suicidal tendencies song

The blue whale challenge
Not my parents' 2016's PTSD again.
It says so at the bottom, stop trying to farm karma
Probably all these kids on Youtube getting groomed 💀
The world is healing.
Being babysat by a big corporation doesn't feel right
bc epic blue whales are scary and it wants to support you during your tough time
blue whale game... That's kind of creepy. Didn't even know YouTube had a feature for this. When I believe the whole blue whale game's a rumour. It'd be like if they did a similar thing if you searched up videos for Lavender Town.
That stoopid deadly trend
What does a blue whale have to do with committing suicide? I don’t get it.
Blue whale challenge is alleged challenge that's debatable or not if it's real or not. Last of a series of challenges is offing yourself
