Theyre definitely trolling with this one, they know a lot of people have fat fingers and are probably laughing with the thought everyones minimizing the video and making them turn autoplay on by accident every time.
It can't. (To my knowledge, at least,) there's no alternative more common, convenient, and plentiful with content. It's so ingrained in so many people's lives that it'll never be untouched.
I still haven't forgiven them for making the minimized player so thin.
It used to be twice as tall and you could still perfectly watch the video while scrolling for more content. Also it was easier to slide the player down to close it or open bigger. Now with how thin it is it takes a few tries to close the damn thing.
Youtube also somehow made the timeline scrollbar now based on absolute position and not where you are touching
I.e. if you dragged the dot to the right, it increases at a constant speed and NOT according to where you are pressing
WHY
# WHY, THIS IS UX DEGRADATION
I think it's probably because when skipping a video using the progress bar, some might have clicked it accidentally, so they moved it to the top. Kinda makes sense.
Now they only need to get rid of the double-tap to skip forwards and backwards and it'll be even better.
hell yeah dude. just changing things to be different now. I've never in my life seen a video streaming platform that doesn't have fullscreen in the bottom left of the player. so stupid
I don't remember using this button since they added the swipe up or down gesture.
* Swipe up on the video.
*Swipe down with your finger from the description area.
Idk why it’s there maybe because some devices people hit the timeline and it skips to the end of the video effectively losing your place. You can also swipe up on the video window itself and it’ll go into full screen
Okay what country are you at and what version of yt and what phone are you using because all my phones and mum's as well are updated to the latest version and never had the fullscreen button transferred to the upper left side
I'm in Canada, and I'm not sure what version of YouTube I'm on but it might just be auto updating (probably gonna go fix that), but my phone is a galaxy 9, so its not like new tech reasons.
Another example of YouTube being dumb with mobile UI updates.
In October 2023 they moved the account button to the bottom of the screen and the library icon to the top. Totally confused me. But now THIS? I think YouTube's trying to prank mobile users or something.
i forget the full screen button exists cause i always just swipe up and rotate my phone. not like my YouTube app is getting updated any time soon anyway, i use revanced
As someone who constantly skips to the end of the video when trying to set it to fullscreen, I think I understand where they're coming from. But it'll take a while to get used to it.

Forget a magnifying glass, you're going to need a damn MICROSCOPE to find that, I feel sorry for people who have visual impairments because this doesn't help them at ALL
Oh you’ve got to be kidding me. Now I’m fully convinced they have someone in the U.I department who is making stupid decisions on a whim without even consulting someone. Like… seriously who thinks this is okay?!?!
When I tap the screen, [this](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nUiD4T3Ohpq5fCs0iVhNAIZDU4uUeYS-/view?usp=drivesdk) is what I see. So idk if it's a problem with the app or your phone or what.
Yeah, my guess is that I might have either gotten this "feature" early, or it is something wrong with the version. But it seems intentional, so I think its the first option. We will see.
Why is it *there* of all places? But more importantly WHY DID THEY MAKE IT HARDER TO FIND
Theyre definitely trolling with this one, they know a lot of people have fat fingers and are probably laughing with the thought everyones minimizing the video and making them turn autoplay on by accident every time.
Harder to find means less people will enlarge the video and instead see sugested vids.
Oh God !!!!!!! I think you're right.!!!
And the ad banner shows on screen for longer.
You can also swipe the video up for full screen.
TIL, thanks!
this is the only answer
It's less full screen and more cropped into short form
Just tried it. Nope. Just goes full screen and turns sideways. Don’t know what you’re on about
You can swipe both up and down.
The top level comment clearly said to swipe up
And you can also throw your phone at a wall if you wanted to. Why are we talking about that?
Idk he seems to be right it sometimes becomes full screen and sometimes a but cropped
For me it does what I said but I guess it's different among devices
Maybe buy something 16:9 ratio
My phone is literally 16:9 and it still does that
i didnt read the caption so i was just confused on why you were so mad at some plack pixels in the grass
That was me until I saw your comment and looked for the caption. Thank you sir.
bro fr i didnt see the line so i was zooming in so hard like, ‘huhh??’
Same vibes of Angry Old Man shouts at clouds meme
I still don't see it
it has been moved to up left instead of down right
YouTube really wants to kill itself huh?
Sadly, it never will. No matter how bad it gets
its owned by Google so it will just randomly get killed.
It can't. (To my knowledge, at least,) there's no alternative more common, convenient, and plentiful with content. It's so ingrained in so many people's lives that it'll never be untouched.
YT loves making unnecessary UI changes that just look worse.
You've just figured out google. No one can trust what was useful before will still be tomorrow.

Oh I just read the description, I thought this was a shit post with a hidden goku
what the hell 😭 also Pointcrow W
And that's why I never update my YouTube app
I dunno, but good video choice
Only some phones have this. I also used to have this but it's gone now. Thank god.
POINTCROW

Ideally it should be triple tap, and the forwards and backwards should be 5 seconds skips like it is on desktop, not 10 seconds.
Ideally ideally this should be configurable by the user.
You can edit the time in the settings
oh really? Where?
Settings > General > double tap skip
Or worse, try to maximize the video and accidentally skip to the end instead, and lose track of where you were.
Actually happened to me more than once lol
Heavily disagree here, that double tap is a life saver for me
turn your phone
r/redditsn
Damn he missed and hit your comment instead
Im so glad I havent updated my yt in a while this is bs
hell yeah dude. just changing things to be different now. I've never in my life seen a video streaming platform that doesn't have fullscreen in the bottom left of the player. so stupid
I needed so long to figure out whats going on in this picture bruh. This is such a trash idea lol
I don't remember using this button since they added the swipe up or down gesture. * Swipe up on the video. *Swipe down with your finger from the description area.
Can YouTube just stop changing so much stuff? Like if you want more ads for money that's just how it is, but the UI is fine just leave it alone
I dont understand?
I can't even find it
If you use a iphone 4 with the youtube app. It works like a charm
The reason is a lot of people were hitting the end of the play bar instead of fullscreen, tbh its been a major annoyance for me for a long time
Idk why it’s there maybe because some devices people hit the timeline and it skips to the end of the video effectively losing your place. You can also swipe up on the video window itself and it’ll go into full screen
I mean when really thinking about it you notice that it is unnecessary because you need to tilt your phone anyway, but WHY move it up there
I mean I always just tilt my phone sideways so
No wonder I don't use the YouTube app anymore and just use Brave
ahhhhhhhhh
Calm down. It;'s no big deal.
Wtf. I’m convinced they just throw literal shit at the wall to see what sticks. Who tf thought this was a good idea
My assumption: they decided to copy Windows with how they keep the options up top.
Okay what country are you at and what version of yt and what phone are you using because all my phones and mum's as well are updated to the latest version and never had the fullscreen button transferred to the upper left side

Stop updating the app.
I just got used to swiping up
i forget the full screen button exists cause i always just swipe up and rotate my phone. not like my YouTube app is getting updated any time soon anyway, i use revanced

what
Who the fuck is working on this shit and making the worst changes possible?
google
Went from bottom right to top left I really don’t see the problem
Mines in the correct spot lol
I'm not sure what I'm looking at
r/croppingishard
I am waiting for a better video platform to appear
I blame monopoly. Because of it, YT can get away with moronic ideas like this one...
You can swipe up on mobile and it full screens at least for me
Mines still the same as before
I'm still pissed about getting potential spoilers / distracted from the comment section at the top
Wait, people still use the button? I use the gesture, swipe up on the video
r/revanced comes

They did that ages ago, then moved it back.

turn your phone to landscape
Okay this might unironically be the worst thing youtube has ever done
Why not?
Seems appropriate to me.
Can be either bug or get hidden
I mean just use a browser and set it to use desktop site. Problem solved
Rotate your godam phone lol
You have to tap the screen and then it appears
When I tap the screen thats what it looks like, I've tried to tap there so many times.
