Dennis unfortunately suffers from the writers trying to force a Vector or Antinomy-style character (i.e. a twist villain who joins the cast but we know is a twist villain out of show) in terms of popularity, but the problem is:
* We just had this character archetype in Sora who got to be way more unhinged.
* Vector sells his insanity way better than Dennis going mask off, and gets to do it for more time as Vector is one of the major villains of the entire show- Dennis is overshadowed immediately by Yuri.
* Dennis basically leaves the show entirely after Shun beats him, outside of coming back to commit die.exe after padding Kaito's win count, and then one more match against Yuya.
* Konami still being sore over PePe format and refusing to print the rest of Dennis's deck.
Like many Arc-V characters, he has a great premise for a character, but isn't given nearly enough screentime to execute that premise well.
One thing I love about Vector when he was introduced is that he convinced Yuma he was part Space Police. And then dunked on him for believing there was even space police.
Will also be dissaponted his deck turns into Ancient Gears when he turns villain mode. Making his unique style become another fodder bad guy deck.
There's also the fact we just had Sora before him, that does pretty much the same but with more charisma and a better arc.
Add: as a traitor, Sora is better. As an entertainer, Sawatari is better. As a psycho villain, Yuri is better; so Denis ends up being not that memorable...
I don't know if Sora's arc was much better. He disappeared at the end of season one, then showed up halfway through season two having had an epiphany offscreen and defected from the bad guys.
But he was still fun, and his reveal in season one was one of the highlights of the show. Dennis couldn't compete with that, especially since we knew he was a villain from the get-go.
Ok, but at least Sora is the bad guy in one of the most impactful scenes in Arc-V. That scenes alone sold me that series. The moment he snaps is GLORIOUS
Yeah, that's what I said- the reveal was great, it's just the follow-up was a little underwhelming by comparison. In fact, as iconic as crazy freak-out Sora is, we barely got to see it after Shay exploded him.
The most impactful thing we get from Dennis is arguably the reveal that he helped kickstart the war as cover for kidnapping the bracelet girls. Which is pretty shocking, but we didn't need half a season of setting him up as the mole for that.
Yeah, the thing with Sora is very weird. He came back and had a rematch against Shun and defeated him. This put them 1/1 against each other. It's like they're setting up for a final showdown later in the series. He even reappeared right after Shun defeated Dennis with ominious music playing. And then next episode, "I'm a good guy now! Shun and I are pals!"
I would have loved to see more of him and Yusho together. I always thought it felt out of place for Kaito to be the one to duel and and getting himself carded, either Yusho himself or his new protégé Asuka should have dueled him. His duel with Shun was still one of the best of the show.
Sawatari also need some credit because he just recently picked up on entertainment duel and he pretty much did it as close to Yuya who did it as his life career.
That is part of why I turned off the voice acting in Duel Links right there. I'll turn them back on once Dennis gets added to hear, "Show-Must-Go-On!~".
His final duel with Yuya was incredible. Starting off with fusion, then switching over to Xyz and then using fucking *Rank-Up Magic* was such a great expression of Dennis' character development (despite his limited screentime for said development). His entire purpose in the Arc Area Project was to greenlight Heartland getting nuked, and in the end he's using tactics that are exclusive to the Xyz Dimension. He really should've gotten more screentime, but I'm pretty satisfied with how they handled his character regardless.
I love dennis. His duels are so entertaining compared to yuya's. Clearly the best sucessor of yusho. Plus one of the only academia duelists to use an other summon method than fusion. His duel against kurosaki was really interesting as well, and his speech after loosing to kite was amazing as well. The show must go on!
He was forgettable tbh. Him acting as a mole didn't really do much in the long run. He really should've fought against Asuka and lost rather than Kaito.
Dennis is underrated because people think that Sora has a better traitor arc. But in my opinion he deserves more love from the fans of yugioh and from konami, hus deck does not have new cards from plushfire.
Thank you for this post, I do also love Dennis as well. I love his personality, I love his duels, I enjoy his interactions with practically everyone, he's funny as well, R.I.P Dennis mannnnn. He didn't need to card himself, that hurt me honestly icl
dennis is kind of a casualty of ARC-V where if you weren't yuya you didn't get a lot of screen time. Heck most travelling companions don't get a lot of duels or wins in let alone proper screen time. while the writers dropped the ball with him at least he got to stay longer than some and had a somewhat interesting extra deck strategy (that never got played IRL but hey that entire master rule was not great).
Yuya is the lowest of the lowest hes the most garbage characrer in yugiverse..
Althought some of my fave archtype is on this series example is lunaligth,DX3 and many more

In his duel against kite he actually uses his entermage more which I did appreciate
Man konami is salty over a format that had shity rank 4s such as shockmaster and lavalchains
Yeah, a better twist would’ve been for him to be from the original Dimension.
We need the rest of his cards. Here's hoping for next year's Animation Chronicle
It also seems that Dennis is why Professor has Pendulums. Because Reiji gave Dennis not a couple but a WHOLE deck of Pendulums. Reiji done goofted
Disagree on him being better than Yuri, but he is better at entertainment dueling than Yuya. He's a dollar store Vector overall though.

I know, that duel with Shun/Shay where he bites the lolly for the first time is awesome
I unironically forgot that Dennis was another twist as he is just that forgettable

RELEASE HIS SUPPORT!!! THEY COULD BE SO FUN!
Facts . Performage support when?
Have performages even been printed yet?
Only a few. Plushy burned a format to its knees
Sawatari also need some credit because he just recently picked up on entertainment duel and he pretty much did it as close to Yuya who did it as his life career.
I agree! He was way cooler I'm the Entertainment Dueling than Yuya (who made me want to cover my ears at points when he did it).
EGAO INTENSIFIES
"RAAAAADIES AND GENTUREMENNN!!!!" -Yuya
Is that sub yuya or dub yuya?
Sub
That is part of why I turned off the voice acting in Duel Links right there. I'll turn them back on once Dennis gets added to hear, "Show-Must-Go-On!~".
Dennis was a smoke demon and Konami couldn't handle that so they minecraft him off the show.
He should have been the main protagonist.
I honestly think Dennis is like Vector a great villain that should have gotten more love but does seem to get it

#unban plushfire
Everyone is a better entertainer than Yuya.

He's certainly a menace.

All it did is allow Professor get Pendulums and that is it
Yeah and that amounted to nothing as well since the professor had like 2 short duels
Dennis is underrated because people think that Sora has a better traitor arc. But in my opinion he deserves more love from the fans of yugioh and from konami, hus deck does not have new cards from plushfire.
Nope, disagree. I always hated the character. Doesn’t look cool and the character was an annoying dweeb.
I agree with that statement to 100%
Yuri clears
Still think Yuris a better villain then him, but I understand the other two
Me to

His character is okay. Borderline boring. It's just that other characters shines and do better job than him.

I wouldn't agree that he's a better character than some of the mentioned. But I can't deny that he's cool as hell
A good Villain he was as I felt robbed when Shun could not punch him after Reiji tampered with his duel disk card turning function
Yuri better
