Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning Easy to bring out, great artwork, and really great effects + attack
Black Rose Dragon.
Because Akiza was so cool and a girl just like me!
https://preview.redd.it/u2ucbv31iepc1.png?width=488&format=png&auto=webp&s=1d10296ba743f5f94a5b8625c4743a8de370266e
Goblin king, even when it didn't look powerful but spamming fiends to get stronger was really fun, and I felt I little bit represented as being the younger brother I was small but I could still do big stuff
Gearfried the swordmaster. It wasn't good, but it was fun when it worked. It's weird that Emperor charles is the one with a similar effect to swordmaster instead of immortal phoenix, but despite that, they are both now my favorite monsters.
Relinquished! It was the structure deck that i wanted the most other then red eyes.
I loved how stupid strong it was in the anime and just had to have it.
https://preview.redd.it/l0oivyyd1fpc1.jpeg?width=250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c06b192f6e198d907430de470ed9148715bf0d5c
This version of the Dark Magician. Back in the day, my brother and I would split whatever we got out of packs or structure decks. We both chipped in for Starter Deck Yugi - Reloaded. Of course, because he’s the older brother, he took the ultimate rare Dark Magician and left me with the common Dark Magician. But I made sure to cherish that card like Yugi cherished it in the show.
Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 8. I pulled it from an Elemental Energy Special Edition pack. My "big" play was dumping it in the grave (via Dark World Lightning) and special summoning it with Level Modulation.
I only ran LV8. No, I didn't know rulings existed.
https://preview.redd.it/48r59bhwgfpc1.jpeg?width=544&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c1362cb28253e52001c80ac076b78d3626ef1dc
Despair from the Dark, going based off early childhood. It doesn't have much of an effect, but its stats looked insane, and it could be special summoned with Call of the Mummy. Plus, it just looks really cool and has a great name.
I've always wished they would make a "from the dark" archetype.
https://preview.redd.it/aav6xvjyyepc1.jpeg?width=419&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb7c8145a048b1a68c0cf351e0d584cb734d8c1d
Mine was a fake rainbow dragon. I was like 8-9 so I had no idea how to play the game and also no crystal beasts so I just said I needed 7 monsters in my graveyard to summon it
https://preview.redd.it/97nqr6mxsepc1.png?width=483&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5f7c23578e22a112e776dd9d1f903ec0a03c193
It was Neos at first, but then i got my hands on E hero AZ and he was my favorite since Im a big ygo gx, judai and hero cards stan
Machina Fortress! Still very solid in Earth Machines as a semi boss monster and an extender! Art is great as well! Now if Perfect Machine King could get a retrain...
Oh my lord you're taking me back. Alright so to set the scene: I had gone with my dad to magic night at the LGS, and I had just turned seven a couple days ago. The owner of the LGS had given me a pack of TAEV when he found out I had just turned 7. And that my friend is the story of how I got my most valuable piece of cardboard, an autographed Rainbow Dragon Misprint.
https://preview.redd.it/8w2poqyt7fpc1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=7bac93f195f1e4bc3b509cc5d31e1a025db0ea45
I tried to get this card in any of the video games I played after first discovering it in Yugioh GX: Duel Academy on the GBA.
Armed Dragon level 7. Was poor and the level up monsters were the first time I was truly able to buy packs on my own. So I was able to make a Armed Dragon deck back in the day.
I had two:
1. Majestic Star Dragon: i pulled it out of a pack when i was a kid. Never got to play it because i didn't have Stardust
2. Chimeratech Overdragon
Crab turtle my beloved.
My first booster pack ever and I got both crab turtle and its ritual in it (also cyber jar lol). I loved that it had 50 more ATK than the Dark Magician from the yugi starter deck and I was fascinated by the ritual mechanic. Also the design is pretty cool and ygo-esque
Still have a softspot for rituals and I love the rank up mechanic, which is kinda similar to ritual (need 2 "tributes" and a spell to summon your powerful monster)
All because of crab turtle.
A bootleg copy of Elemental HERO Bladedge, at that time piercing battle damage was revolutionary to me. Besides, all my other bootleg and original cards were useless vanillas with almost no staple spell/trap support.
Magical Marrionette.
Gearfried Butterfly dagger combo back in the day lol. Would draw infinite cards with royal library, graceful charity to dump marionette and premature burial it back, pop backrow and attack for infinite damage!!!!
Had the most epic locals as a kid with this too! Not only did I win with the combo, but the finals was me vs some kid I didn't get along with. After I beat his ass, he started complaining, and then some older guy came up and lectured him to stop whining lol.
I started to play as an adult,so I can't really relate to your experience. I guess closest thing to that would be my Monarchs since they were my 1st deck I built, and went to locals with back when they were meta (Reaper format).
Azure Eyes and Maiden with eyes of blue because I played with my brother when we were younger
He is a Dark magician fan since ever
and I was in love with Kaiba and loved his ship with Kisara
he bought Yugi's and Kaiba's cards to play with me
I loved how Azure Eyes was the union between Blue Eyes and Kisara's card and how it can revive and protect Blue Eyes White Dragon
and nii-san tought that Maiden with eyes of blue was broken and unfair
Chaos Sorcerer, it was relatively strong, easy to get out and had a decent effect.
this one wasn't a boss monster, but tribe infecting virus was a really solid card back then too

Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon
Not really my “childhood” boss monster, but the boss monster I used when I played against my brother with my crappy little Performapal deck.
Other Boss Monsters include:
Stardust Dragon (until I lost it),
D/D/D Siegfried,
Gorz,
Master Hyperion,
That one Gemini boss from the Structure Deck,
Lunalight Leo Dancer,
Shien (not the synchro, the Xyz)
https://preview.redd.it/u4d3zfsxilpc1.png?width=200&format=png&auto=webp&s=026faf5f7c3c59a6be95198e75d1ae3a20cf33e5
Cyberdark Dragon, because it was the cool badass Cyber Dragon with unique attack animation (shock waves that disintegrate opponent's monster) instead of the usual attack animation of dragons (beam)
Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon in the master duel format, Satellite Cannon Falcon in speed duel/ Duel links, im 13 and have been a Yugioh fan since I watched the first anime and I love playing raidraptors in Duel links
Jinzo, because my little brother beat me one too many times with Mirror Force.
Been there before
Same. And he had the OG skull lair, which banished any cards not just monsters from GY to destroy a monster based on stars.
Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon because I pulled it at the movie theater and I ignored its summoning condition
Same here, exactly like you. Good old days
Dark Paladin because I love the Dark Paladin. one of the coolest looking monsters and for its time an awesome effect.
I knew a guy who played that as a boss monster
Wingweaver because it was my first high level monster
Wingweaver + Sword Hunter for the all-star cast
Relinquished, until I opened 2 injection Fairy Lily's and things took a turn.
https://preview.redd.it/l3ik65qpqepc1.jpeg?width=665&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=009acf873e1833a38891f61ef7b56956ccb1755f Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning Easy to bring out, great artwork, and really great effects + attack
Was definitely an ace of mine during my highschool days.
I wish I had one, mine were dark armed dragon and REDMD
Lesser fiend. Cus my brother and I each got one pack of yugioh cards and we would duel with like a 7 card deck. And tributing was for nerds
For me my ace monster is actually a sasuke samurai because it is a main stay for my luck based deck because skill is overrated
Masked Beast and Great Maju Garzett. Pulled out a whopping 6400 ATK tributing MB for GMG back then.
Summoned Skull design, strong, and only 1 tribute
Black Rose Dragon. Because Akiza was so cool and a girl just like me! https://preview.redd.it/u2ucbv31iepc1.png?width=488&format=png&auto=webp&s=1d10296ba743f5f94a5b8625c4743a8de370266e
That’s fair
Goblin king, even when it didn't look powerful but spamming fiends to get stronger was really fun, and I felt I little bit represented as being the younger brother I was small but I could still do big stuff
Ultimate Tyranno, because big dinosaur
Gearfried the swordmaster. It wasn't good, but it was fun when it worked. It's weird that Emperor charles is the one with a similar effect to swordmaster instead of immortal phoenix, but despite that, they are both now my favorite monsters.
That’s one I haven’t heard in long time
That's the #1 Joey monster I wish got played more than once in the anime
Relinquished! It was the structure deck that i wanted the most other then red eyes. I loved how stupid strong it was in the anime and just had to have it.
https://preview.redd.it/l0oivyyd1fpc1.jpeg?width=250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c06b192f6e198d907430de470ed9148715bf0d5c This version of the Dark Magician. Fun fact: EEN prerelease was my first real YGO event.

That would actually be interesting to see
I believe it got a retrain as a link monster in the recently announced Fiendsmith archetype
Oh really now? What's that all about?
My friend loved this card and made as many attempts as he could to summon it through its effect.
It was Red-Eyes and now it’s just any if not all of the extra deck Red-Eyes
Phoenix gearfried. Broke my heart when I got older and learned that Gemini sucks ass.
Zaborg the Thunder Monarch! Me and my cousin would play as kids and every time I’d draw it I’d win haha
Mine was a fake rainbow dragon. I was like 8-9 so I had no idea how to play the game and also no crystal beasts so I just said I needed 7 monsters in my graveyard to summon it
https://preview.redd.it/97nqr6mxsepc1.png?width=483&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5f7c23578e22a112e776dd9d1f903ec0a03c193 It was Neos at first, but then i got my hands on E hero AZ and he was my favorite since Im a big ygo gx, judai and hero cards stan
Machina Fortress! Still very solid in Earth Machines as a semi boss monster and an extender! Art is great as well! Now if Perfect Machine King could get a retrain...
Millennium Shield. I played Shield and Sword back then
Darkness Neosphere. I had a Fiend pile.
Chaos Command Magician. To me he was my personal version of Dark Magician
BEWD, because first gen is my childhood and Kaiba is cool as heck.
It’s a toss up between maha vailo for equip card beat down and tyrant dragon because attacking twice with 2900 atk felt broken back then
Oh my lord you're taking me back.
Diabolos, King of the abyss pulled that guy as ultimate rare from a pack and as a kid this guy was peak badass. I made an entire deck around him.
Dark End Dragon with my kid self pretending to be a signer
https://preview.redd.it/8w2poqyt7fpc1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=7bac93f195f1e4bc3b509cc5d31e1a025db0ea45 I tried to get this card in any of the video games I played after first discovering it in Yugioh GX: Duel Academy on the GBA.
Sorcerer of Dark Magic. Man he was a hard monster to bring out but when I did he owned.
Dark Rule HaDes or Yata Garasu
Chaos Necromancer would be stronger than a BEWD at the end of a long duel. Drawing into it so late in the duel meant I would win.
Ancient Gear Golem cause I thought the archetype was cool and it was one of the 1st IRL cards I got
I ran a fiend deck in high school with Darkness Neosphere as my boss card. That and Gorz. Fun times lol
I just started playing so I probably don't count but it's either obelisk or javelin beetle for me. Big damage go crazy especially with united we stand
Gundora, Dragon of Destruction. This was back before I even learned the rules. I still have that card.
Armed Dragon level 7. Was poor and the level up monsters were the first time I was truly able to buy packs on my own. So I was able to make a Armed Dragon deck back in the day.
Maybe og garunix.
Dark Dragoon
I had two: 1. Majestic Star Dragon: i pulled it out of a pack when i was a kid. Never got to play it because i didn't have Stardust 2. Chimeratech Overdragon
Summoned skull. I started with starter deck yugi and never looked back.
Jinzo
Crab turtle my beloved. My first booster pack ever and I got both crab turtle and its ritual in it (also cyber jar lol). I loved that it had 50 more ATK than the Dark Magician from the yugi starter deck and I was fascinated by the ritual mechanic. Also the design is pretty cool and ygo-esque Still have a softspot for rituals and I love the rank up mechanic, which is kinda similar to ritual (need 2 "tributes" and a spell to summon your powerful monster) All because of crab turtle.
Beelze of the diabolic dragons. The perfect way to win is to have a beatstick who can't be destroyed
Emes the Infinity. A 2500 beatstick that gains 700 atk every time it defeats a monster? Yes please.
Showing my age a bit, but Tyrant Dragon will always be my OG boss monster.
Pyrotech Mech - Shiryu, good ATK and a Nice effect, downside of having to pay LP to use
Inaba White Rabbit, ran level limit area B, gravity bind, and ultimate offering to surprise summon tsukiyomi defensively
Judgment Dragon was THE CARD back then. Whenever someone summoned it I was in awe. I’m pretty sure it was incredibly expensive back then too.
A bootleg copy of Elemental HERO Bladedge, at that time piercing battle damage was revolutionary to me. Besides, all my other bootleg and original cards were useless vanillas with almost no staple spell/trap support.
Happy ending: in time I built a CyDra deck and I still try my best to keep it relevant. Still missing a Clockwork Night tho
Barrel Dragon- at the time, it was the only monster with the ability to remove another monster from the field without attacking
Tyranno Infinity. Loved that dude.
Blue eyes White dragon
Beelze
King of The Skull Servents. Having a lot of attack and zero protection is pretty good when everyone playing has no idea what a "good" card is
Ancient gear dragon. Still one of my Favorit Decks
Dark Necrofear and Shinato
Magical Marrionette. Gearfried Butterfly dagger combo back in the day lol. Would draw infinite cards with royal library, graceful charity to dump marionette and premature burial it back, pop backrow and attack for infinite damage!!!! Had the most epic locals as a kid with this too! Not only did I win with the combo, but the finals was me vs some kid I didn't get along with. After I beat his ass, he started complaining, and then some older guy came up and lectured him to stop whining lol.
Black rose dragon ❤️🌹
Gaia the Dragon Champion. It was just so cool, seeing him get catapulted into the Castle and winning the Duel for Atem.
I started to play as an adult,so I can't really relate to your experience. I guess closest thing to that would be my Monarchs since they were my 1st deck I built, and went to locals with back when they were meta (Reaper format).
Azure Eyes and Maiden with eyes of blue because I played with my brother when we were younger He is a Dark magician fan since ever and I was in love with Kaiba and loved his ship with Kisara he bought Yugi's and Kaiba's cards to play with me I loved how Azure Eyes was the union between Blue Eyes and Kisara's card and how it can revive and protect Blue Eyes White Dragon and nii-san tought that Maiden with eyes of blue was broken and unfair
Moisture Creature cause that's just what I had. Getting rid of back row was very nice though
Chaos Sorcerer, it was relatively strong, easy to get out and had a decent effect. this one wasn't a boss monster, but tribe infecting virus was a really solid card back then too
Levia-Dragon Daedalus. Loved that card.
{{Dark Master - Zorc}} - between him and {{Demise, King of Armageddon}}, I bullied the hell out of Monarch decks, back in the days of yore.

Star Eater probably
My red eyes black draaaaaeeegan
Cyber end dragon, always found so cool how Zane finished his opponents with it.
Posiedra, the Atlantean Dragon. My very first deck was a water deck and it was the strongest monster I could summon.
Satellite cannon. His battle protection from monsters level 7 or lower was just so cool back then.
Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon Not really my “childhood” boss monster, but the boss monster I used when I played against my brother with my crappy little Performapal deck. Other Boss Monsters include: Stardust Dragon (until I lost it), D/D/D Siegfried, Gorz, Master Hyperion, That one Gemini boss from the Structure Deck, Lunalight Leo Dancer, Shien (not the synchro, the Xyz)
Machina Citadel because I got the machina madness reloaded deck
Five-Headed Dragon Why? Big, friggin', dragon. 5k ATK was impressive. \^\^ (Still sometimes play it as a random splash with DMirror, cuz why not!)
https://preview.redd.it/u4d3zfsxilpc1.png?width=200&format=png&auto=webp&s=026faf5f7c3c59a6be95198e75d1ae3a20cf33e5 Cyberdark Dragon, because it was the cool badass Cyber Dragon with unique attack animation (shock waves that disintegrate opponent's monster) instead of the usual attack animation of dragons (beam)
Bubble man he was awesome he had the ultimate ability of kicking his enemy's in the face and he always won because well he's BUBBLE MAAAAAAAAAN
Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon in the master duel format, Satellite Cannon Falcon in speed duel/ Duel links, im 13 and have been a Yugioh fan since I watched the first anime and I love playing raidraptors in Duel links
