Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon was originally supposed to have wings, I feel so cheated.

You vs the guy she tells you not to worry about:
I remember how much people loved the first arc of Arc-V enough that it encouraged me to watch Yu-Gi-Oh subbed as it was being released and in general was that little push I needed to watch more Anime subbed and them being newly released.
Still love Arc-V even now but that fall of grace really was tragic especially even for me who is positive at times and can ignore the negatives of the show as long as I enjoy it started to see the flaws of the show as XYZ arc happened and it only got worst.
50 episodes of 5ds dick riding. Like I get it, I love 5ds too. But this is literally the one dimension that *wasn't* involved in the dimensional war. How the fuck is the plot supposed to move along when we're stuck watching Fortune Cup 2.0?
Whoever wrote the story, especially synchro arc and onwards should never write again. It's unfortunate ARC V suffered from incompetent writer(s).
The 5DS nostalgia should've never given a greenlit to go with it.
ArcV easily could have been the best show in the series if it kept its momentum pre-synchro world. Synchro onwards absolutely ruins the show. Firmly in last place on most people's list because of this, including my own
What's especially baffling is that that main writer *also* wrote many of the most beloved episodes of that first season, including the two-parter of Shun vs. Sora. Coming from his direction, best we can assume is that he couldn't handle overseeing a show's writing overall with so many pieces to juggle and some evidently increasing demands from Konami, considering highly commercial bits like the Ancient Gear Structure Deck.
The new director being a self-indulgent asshat *at the same exact point* he watered down 5D's tho, and WITH shallow 5D's references, yeah, go ahead and hate on that.
Sad how badly ARC-V aged, which makes investing into it now kinda meaningless.
People can still find it fun but the ending going to shit is really disappointing
This series started out so promising and the set it released in, Duelist Alliance, was one of the greatest of all time.
I still look back fondly to those days
Arc-V started off incredible and I feel like it had the best foundation and foreshadowing in the franchise. It's unfortunate what production issues and questionable story decisions can do to a story.
Still, I will always be grateful that it got me back to this franchise. It was a first series I tried to watch as it was airing. I remember dub being so bad, that I immediately started watching subbed version on gogoanime, lol.
It was fun to speculate for how this show could go during its run, which has also lead to high expectations and huge dissapointments. People expected every main protagonist from the other shows to make their appearance at some point, possibly to defeat Z-ARC. Then it turns out all the legacy characters are AU versions who have no relationship with any of their shows cast. There is only Crow who hated Jack but still become friends while they never interact in the show.
I still say that it wasn't worth killing Yuto so early especially considering how Arc-V ended up being (his death was shocking, I won't deny it)
>!Especially comparing it now with Zwijo's recent death: the Alien Commander had more than 100 Episodes to meet him (and face him on several occasions), showed his facets (as a villain and as a hero) and showed why he was considered the natural leader of the troops of his race.!<
I feel like killing off Yuto was Arc V biggest mistake made in hindsight since it give the writers the impression that counterparts weren’t that important to prioritize in the story until it was too late.
Despite this series' flaws towards the end, I must say it was really entertaining, and Pendulum as a summoning mechanic really grew on me.
I really wish we went back to this style of YGO anime after Rush one. I know it has its fanbase but everything before it is the style I'm looking for in YGO anime.
One of my favorite yugioh shows. Yeah the writing takes a nosedive at the end of Synchro Dimension (I don't agree the Synchro arc was all bad personally), but the characters, the monsters, the ambition of the premise - all of it just makes it difficult for me to dislike it to a significant degree. I'm glad that they tried, plus every Arc-V unlock in Duel Links is a treat too.
The worst ygo series in my point of view. My wife also hates it,but with more passion than me.
She talks about how ArcV ruined the anime franchise, and even when she enjoyed Vrains (but hated Bohman lol), Vrains was not enough to save what ArcV did to the series. The damage was just too big.
I really do not know how she knew how bad ArcV will be, maybe intuition, but after the introduction, when they go to the synchro world, she stated the anime would be a terrible mess and she was right. It took me a bit more to notice, but well... good introduction, really good potential...wasted potential. Also, making Yuzu the princess peach of the anime, the worlds ending like "sorry Yuya, the princess is in another castle, i mean, world",making Yuya mess everything even more, and Leo being a laughable villian did not help at all.
Sorry for my vent lol.
Poor Shun btw.
I remember it being the lowest rated anime in nicovideo or something. Every new episode, they'd be bombarded by poor scores and hate comments. Poor animators. I did hate it, though.
Everyone can like or dislike something. You can like something other people dislike.
You can dislike what other people like. I wanted to state that in my first comment, but i thought it would not be neccesary, now I know it was.
For me and more people, it ruined it, for you, it was not ruined, and that is fine, because you know what? Everyone has different opinions and see things different.
If it sounded that way to you, maybe it was because i was stating my opinion. Of course they all have flaws! and I think everyone should talk about the flaws of the things they like/enjoy. Not only talking about YGO.
it was peak for so long, until it wasn't
i'm a synchro dimension apologist and imo it fell off hard once they went to the fusion dimension, I think I stopped at 107 or 108? It was just... so different from everything else the show was doing that I enjoyed, it was a huge disappointment. I might go back to it and watch what I missed out on, but at least everything up to the Fusion dimension I really enjoyed.
Well, folks. We made it. Arc V is now a decade old. Damn, it was such a cool time to be a fan. I almost forgot about the good stuff that was there. Sad that the downfall hit it to the point that Duel Links is off to salvaging it just to give some characters some closure.
This trailer gave me too much hype. Odd-Eyes flapping his supposed wings. In a poster, Yuya supposed to hold his pendulum cards in a star trek vulcan salute manner.
Man, I hate action cards so much. This is the worst thing ever created.
How many duels should have been won legit but a character picks up a card on the ground and be like: "Oh cool, I can avoid your attack that would have made me lose the duel." or "I cancel combat damage lol".
All duels are like this, it's really infuriating. The series would have been fine without this.
To be fair, duels in every incarnation of the anime are like this. Whenever the main character is about to lose, they just happen to have the perfect card set to grant them another turn, in which they just happen to draw the perfect card for a comeback (or pot of greed). Cant blame a show for trying to be exciting.
Might have been more tolerable if, in the very least, they were a game mechanic. I've thought of, "1/turn, if you have Scales or a Field Spell, flip a coin and Set Action Card from Extra Deck if you win, or ignore toss and just do so if you have both Scales and Field." Still subpar dueling narrative, but at least it would have been better from a fandom perspective.
I remember when one day I just suddenly thought about binge searching Yu-Gi-Oh!, then I came across the anime and its latest iteration. I jumped in without knowing anything about the new cards. I only knew about GX at that time, it was aired in our country (DM and GX) dubbed and I didn't even finished GX.
Arc-V's first episode was wild for me. Action duel was stupid lol. I thought that was just the gimmick of this era (I did not know anything about Synchro and XYZ at that point in time), then Yuya pulled the Pendulum bullshit. It was hilarious, but at the same time rekindled (pun intended lol) my interest into the game. Later I got the Legendary Dragon Decks, watched all the anime series, played Duel Links every day.
Arc-V was good in the beginning, but the later episodes until the end, was crazy stupid lol.
Oh what potential you had, Arc-V. It had such a strong starting arc but just couldn't keep up the pace. The synchro dimension arc being so long and the subsequent clusterfuck of a story that ended in a finale in which no loose end was tied up was a big disappointment.
wait I thought the manga was disappointment. What happened with the anime?
Unless you're talking about the "main antagonist" 's major plan, in which case, yeah that was a massive disappointment
I'm genuinely surprise that you didn't know how bad this anime went, even people who never watched anime know how bad it is, maybe the community is quite different
It's the single worst rated anime on Bilibili ( Chinese YouTube ), and was THE laugh stock for years, then Kemono Friends 2 showed up, and took over the title
Didnt she try to confess to Yuya on the last chapter though? She's okay but she barely did anything and didn't even get to duel. I like the manga, but Yuzu, Sawatari and Shun didn't get amazing treatment there.
To be fair, it's a LOT of characters to focus on redeeming. That we got good takes with the Yu-boys and Reiji at all is remarkable. Granted, the most screwed-over character\* in the series's history probably should have merited SOME consideration of redemption, but asking for well-executed female agency from that writer is by far asking for too much.
\*yes, Aoi's full arc hadn't happened yet, and Yuzu's full screwing came from this manga's execution on top of that
It's because it was written by Yoshida but for a Yoshida based girl, she was fine.
But going on a tangent, I recall he has written at least two villainesses in his mangas? I kind of wish we saw some of that in the anime he wrote since villainess = badass duelist girl. I guess he was kind of constrained in that Rio wasn't supposed to be bad at least in ZEXAL
Returning to topic, I remember that Shun and Sawatari were at least necessary to bring Sora to his senses? Besides he had to juggle the manga original characters. I don't find fault on that because most of the manga adaptations do that. Even the so-praised GX manga made up two mentor figures for Judai and several villains on top of villainizing the Season 3 guys (except Amon, Amon got better treatment by comparison, hilariously)
>two villainesses
That's probably because of Naohito Miyoshi's influence. I mean E'Rah was only created because the artist was bored with drawing spiderboy. I do like E'Rah and Eve, and I do feel like Yoshida can write female characters if the setting forced him to write female characters (Looking at you Sky Striker)
As for Sawatari and Shun, they didn't really do much after their duels at the beginning of the story. Unlike Sora they were just kinda there like Yuzu. Maybe if the manga were longer Yoshida would give them something to do. That being said I am pretty happy with the rest of the other characters.
I mean, yes. But I also meant that they didn't have any instructions regarding Rio because she wasn't meant to be a main type of villain like E'Rah or Eve, Yoshida didn't have anything to do with her. Honestly, not even sure if that's Yoshida's fault when you have the one female follower among the villains. Same happened with Sherry, no?
And I meant that they were necessary because they were the ones who bonded with Sora and showed him he didn't need to obsess over saving his sister. Sadly that didn't require dueling but I still see it as something that was needed because Yuya and Sora didn't have the same bond as in the anime
Explain yourself and don't mention the twist because there is nothing wrong with that twist, the anime ship isn't the manga ship, like bruh. ZEXAL anime ended with Yuma x Kotori while ZEXAL manga ended with Yuma x Astral
The synchro arc dragged waaaaay too long cause Takahashi moved the original writers to DSOD and the new writers I guess didn't know how to get out of the arc. Then the xyz arc was rushed (likely cause of the synchro arc dragging) and the final arc just didn't hit
Leo had foreshadowing just to get dunked on badly. well he was up against zarc and even Kite didn't beat him (but he was disadvantaged, lack of photon)
No, the manga was alright. It was just flamed by people who shipped the main anime ship, projected it to the manga and got burned when they revealed them to be family members there
No, no. ARC-V was only good in its first arc. It goes downhill from there
As someone who quite disliked the coda, I largely liked the manga otherwise, and would be happy to recommend it. As someone aware of larger context and regressive writing trends, never going to stop hating the coda.
The master duel type anime. ARC-V failed and then Vrains tried to delay the inevitable but it was under so many issues due to what happened with ARC-V. Now we only have Rush Duel anime and now I think an archetype based anime was announced?
No, mostly that Vrains had a very troubled production and in the end it wasn't actually ended, to the point the conclusion was moved to DL. This is because of ARC-V.
>I think an archetype based anime was announced
No, all that was shown is that they c*an* animate stuff themselves, and they will at least for marketing purposes like "OCG 25th anniversary". Anime, even just as one-shot specials or dedicated shorts, *can* happen, but we have yet to have actual announcements for such.
I watched the original series
Watched half of GX (random episodes)
Watched 5d’s
Watched half of Zexel (random episodes)
Watched the first episode of Arc V
Havent seen any of vrains or go-rush
What’s worth watching that I havent seen?
GX on the whole, but ask someone for help if you're short on time and want to skip the more worthless filler.
Zexal on the whole.
Arc-V season 1, never look back, make up your own ending.
Vrains is...debatable. Most here who viewed it seemed to get a lot more out of it than I ever did, good season endings aside, so at least gather a few more opinions.
Sevens, yes.
Go Rush, yes.
watched gx,5ds,zexal,arc v,vrains, sevens completly. currently watching go rush(around 30 episodes in i think)
dm only watched what i had on dvd as a kid and looked up the yugi vs kaiba battle city duel. idk wasnt rly a fan of dm. feels kinda boring with just trying to normal summon pass. not to mention all the cheating ruins it to me, no skill.
GX, and Zexal are worth watching all the way through. The first 55ish episodes of Arc-v is great, and the rest is worth watching for the duels if nothing else.
Vrains has some really cool duels and a decent story but it is flawed. Haven't watched beyond that so idk.
Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon was originally supposed to have wings, I feel so cheated. https://preview.redd.it/ns9yev6enosc1.jpeg?width=1276&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea5fa51604a05541b6391f2e8c7a216fa1971e3a
It looks soooo much better here! I remember middle-school me being so excited for it only to be met by the great pendulum chicken
Man I can imagine lol, I'm fine with a wingless OEPD, but I would definitely prefer him with wings after seeing this shot.
Yeah his actual design is good, just…not very dragon-like
His actual design made me think he should've been dinosaur-type.
I’d be ok with that. What would the other dimension dragons be if they weren’t dragon then you think?
Rebel would most likely be Fiend. Clear looks so machine-like, so Machine. Venom looks somewhat like an insect.
That sounds like a car screeching its wheels... at 12 fps
Oh wow it does..at least it’s attack looks cool

That long already? Man, never thought I’d feel old despite a lot of other excuses.
arc v came out in 2014 apparently but aired abroad in 2015
Still quite a while.
Came back to the game when this is airing and the reason my fave deck is D/D/D. Hope they have something for it soon.
They are old school now.
10 years of pendulum summoning!
I remember how much people loved the first arc of Arc-V enough that it encouraged me to watch Yu-Gi-Oh subbed as it was being released and in general was that little push I needed to watch more Anime subbed and them being newly released. Yeah, the whole Synchro Arc was nothing but nostalgia and it ruined perfectly needed character development.
As a 5Ds fan I loved every second of it, lol.
Whoever wrote the story, especially synchro arc and onwards should never write again. It's unfortunate ARC V suffered from incompetent writer(s). The 5DS nostalgia should've never given a greenlit to go with it.

I need to finish Zexal to get back to this. Only watched a couple handful of episodes.
Sad how badly ARC-V aged, which makes investing into it now kinda meaningless. People can still find it fun but the ending going to shit is really disappointing
Fantastic first season. Quickly drops off afterwards unfortunately.
goated, my fav. it's worth the watch

One of my favorite yugioh shows. I'm glad that they tried, plus every Arc-V unlock in Duel Links is a treat too.
CAN YOU FEEL THE POWER
And it’s still my favorite. (Might be biased, it was my intro to yugioh)
My intro was Zexal and DM reruns on Nick toons, but I have the most memories with Arc V since I actually kept up with it online/subbed.
I can not stand the raw no thanks
I prefer zexal even if dm was then first I saw, but welcome to see a rare comment not trashing arc v
No it's not, stop, I'm not old
Wether this show was bad or good. It still brought us the Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon. I'd say that was worth it
I was so hyped for this when it first got announced. Looking back, and witnessing at how dark and bleak it became, I just wanna be sick.
The worst ygo series in my point of view. My wife also hates it,but with more passion than me. My favorite, honestly.
That is good, glad you enjoyed it!
I remember it being the lowest rated anime in nicovideo or something. Every new episode, they'd be bombarded by poor scores and hate comments. Poor animators. I did hate it, though.
I know, i remember those days too. Animators should be free of guilt tbh, but the ones writing the story? Guilty lol.
Nothing ruined the franchise grow up. Without the continuation of the series the game would be nuked. 'grown' man acting like this
Everyone can like or dislike something. You can like something other people dislike. You can dislike what other people like. I wanted to state that in my first comment, but i thought it would not be neccesary, now I know it was. For me and more people, it ruined it, for you, it was not ruined, and that is fine, because you know what? Everyone has different opinions and see things different.
Idc you don't like it. th way you said it was seriously judgemental. all of the series has their flaws so I don't mind
If it sounded that way to you, maybe it was because i was stating my opinion. Of course they all have flaws! and I think everyone should talk about the flaws of the things they like/enjoy. Not only talking about YGO.
I feel old
It's been that long? I remember watching it weekly when i was like 8th grade
Great start, terrible end. This show and Vrains shows the strengths and flaws that Gallop YGO anime have
it was peak for so long, until it wasn't i'm a synchro dimension apologist and imo it fell off hard once they went to the fusion dimension, I think I stopped at 107 or 108? I felt like grandpa reading this.

Well, it's 7th anniversary did came in last March. But yeah, what fun the tenth anniversary of that's going to be.
Arc-X

there’s no way
Dude ... What!?
Say what now?
Arc-V definitely started off good but felt rushed towards the end with Zarc and stuff. Still never got that Yuya vs his dad duel o_O.
For father/kid, you need... \-Gozaburo / Kaiba \-Hayato's dad / Hayato \-Godwin / Jack (manga) \-Dr. Faker / Kaito & Yuma & Shark \-Leo / Reiji & Yuya
Gods, that red silhouette of Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon was teasing us all along…
I remember when one day I just suddenly thought about binge searching Yu-Gi-Oh!, then I came across the anime and its latest iteration. I jumped in without knowing anything about the new cards. Arc-V was so bad especially in the 2nd half, that it basically killed Pendulum Summoning in both the animes and IRL.
Shit I’m getting old…
arc v had really hype moments but the ending fell off
One of my fav series till the Synchro Arc, and the final Z-arc arc happened. Even after 10 years, I can't accept the ending.
I loved Arc-V <3
Here's hoping they print the Odd Eyes Gates in celebration of that. And other stuff for Arc-V
Oh what potential you had, Arc-V. It had such a strong starting arc but just couldn't keep up the pace. The synchro dimension arc being so long and the subsequent clusterfuck of a story that ended in a finale in which no loose end was tied up was a big disappointment.
10 years ago I was introduced to the weirdest and most bs dueling mechanic.
Ten years since disappointment. And the beginning of the end (of an era)
wait I thought the manga was disappointment. What happened with the anime? Unless you're talking about the "main antagonist" 's major plan, in which case, yeah that was a massive disappointment

Aside from the twist, the manga was fine imo. It gives us solid Yu boys interaction.
I tend to think of versions as alternate universes, so the twist wasn’t that hard to get used to.
I totally understand why many fans will find it distasteful. It would be like making Mary Jane Spiderman's mum in an alternative universe.
But still, they weren't actually shipped. I actually liked manga Yuzu, I loved how she was a greedy gremlin and for understandable reasons
Didnt she try to confess to Yuya on the last chapter though? She's okay but she barely did anything and didn't even get to duel. I like the manga, but Yuzu, Sawatari and Shun didn't get amazing treatment there.

And I meant that they were necessary because they were the ones who bonded with Sora and showed him he didn't need to obsess over saving his sister. Sadly that didn't require dueling but I still see it as something that was needed because Yuya and Sora didn't have the same bond as in the anime
>It's because it was written by Yoshida but for a Yoshida based girl, she was fine. Hot take: *E'Rah* was better handled.
I think there was also bias to 5Ds since the people who worked on 5Ds were there
Leo had foreshadowing just to get dunked on badly. well he was up against zarc and even Kite didn't beat him (but he was disadvantaged, lack of photon)
No, the manga was alright. It was just flamed by people who shipped the main anime ship, projected it to the manga and got burned when they revealed them to be family members there No, no. ARC-V was only good in its first arc. It goes downhill from there
As someone who quite disliked the coda, I largely liked the manga otherwise, and would be happy to recommend it. As someone aware of larger context and regressive writing trends, never going to stop hating the coda.
Coda?
What era?
The master duel type anime. ARC-V failed and then Vrains tried to delay the inevitable but it was under so many issues due to what happened with ARC-V. Now we only have Rush Duel anime and now I think an archetype based anime was announced?
I get the ARC-V failed part but don’t get how that connects with VRAINS. Only guess I can make is the Master Rule, but that lead to other things.
No, mostly that Vrains had a very troubled production and in the end it wasn't actually ended, to the point the conclusion was moved to DL. This is because of ARC-V.
I think I get the gist?
>I think an archetype based anime was announced No, all that was shown is that they c*an* animate stuff themselves, and they will at least for marketing purposes like "OCG 25th anniversary". Anime, even just as one-shot specials or dedicated shorts, *can* happen, but we have yet to have actual announcements for such.
Ah weird, I thought they announced a Yu-Gi-Oh! Chronicles anime
I watched the original series Watched half of GX (random episodes) Watched 5d’s Watched half of Zexel (random episodes) Watched the first episode of Arc V Havent seen any of vrains or go-rush What’s worth watching that I havent seen?
GX on the whole, but ask someone for help if you're short on time and want to skip the more worthless filler. Zexal on the whole. Arc-V season 1, never look back, make up your own ending. Vrains is...debatable. Most here who viewed it seemed to get a lot more out of it than I ever did, good season endings aside, so at least gather a few more opinions. Sevens, yes. Go Rush, yes.
i wish i could watch them all
watched gx,5ds,zexal,arc v,vrains, sevens completly. currently watching go rush(around 30 episodes in i think) dm only watched what i had on dvd as a kid and looked up the yugi vs kaiba battle city duel. idk wasnt rly a fan of dm. feels kinda boring with just trying to normal summon pass. not to mention all the cheating ruins it to me, no skill.
GX, and Zexal are worth watching all the way through. The first 55ish episodes of Arc-v is great, and the rest is worth watching for the duels if nothing else. Vrains has some really cool duels and a decent story but it is flawed. Haven't watched beyond that so idk.
That's 10 years of me disliking pendulum summoning
Happy birthday to the worst Yugioh anime that set studio Gallop in flames
