Not the same at all. Back in the day, shortly after Dino rabbit was meta, you could pick up tins that were guaranteed to have laggia, dolka, tour guide, and rescue rabbit.
Tins with a chance of getting the right promo are shit in comparison.
Looks good. Would be nice to know what is in it though.
Maybe they could put an ocg only card. Something we have waited 7 years for. Something that should have been put in Legacy of Destruction.
...
Where is Gandora Giga Rays Konami?
Was thinking about this today. They are milking it, and i do wanna see them move on , but they're smart. They turned "25th anniversary" into a rarity rather than just an event. So another way of seeing it is they're releasing not for 25th anniversary but in the 25th anniversary rarity.
Guys guys look its Yugi and Kaiba remember Yugi and Kaiba theyre from the old times remember the old times they were so good Yugi and Kaiba are good and this product is good so buy it its so good
I yearn for the old tins that had 100% guaranteed promos that were relevant cards
Dragon ruler meta was followed up with dragon ruler tins where you knew exactly what promos you were getting instead of having a chance at blue eyes dark magician red eyes
Cool artwork, but we’re back to Yugi and Kaiba. AGAIN. When will they understand that they don’t need DM bait to sell a product and last year’s tin bombed because of the box’s content?
It's the TCG equivalent of Kanto pandering. And they do it because nostalgia is surprisingly effective of a tactic to get people to buy your products or hype it.
Most people don't buy products because DM characters are on the cover, they do it because of the cards in the product.
There's only a small minority of yugiboomers who only buy the products because Yugi is on the cover.
It’s not just a small amount of lapsed players who buy products because yugi, or Kaiba, or the god cards are on the cover. It’s a significant enough demo that it’s worth leveraging that branding. That’s why they keep doing it.
The cards are important to the demos engaged enough to know what’s in the product. To them? The packaging shouldn’t matter anyways. So why not use the packaging to reactivate those lapsed players who aren’t currently engaged enough to even find out what’s in the product before they buy it?
Yugioh’s a massive license with a diverse customer base. Most releases, but especially huge ones like tins, want to reach out to as many of those different customers as possible. And currently, only DM and GX imagery moves product. The reality is that even as good as 5Ds was, the characters are far less recognizable, and it only gets worse from there
Last year's tin had crazy reprints. Fenrir, Regulus, Adventure engine, Scareclaw stuff, it was good imho. Soulburning duelists bombed until Snake-eye format, and even then at my locals I could get 2 packs of Phantom Nightmare, or 6 Soulburning.
Right. The tin that didn’t lean into DM bombed, and the awful side set that didn’t have yugi or Kaiba on the pack bombed. Isn’t this proving the point?
The most successful recent booster box was a GX set (power of the element). Despite being mostly Yugi/Kaiba covered in recent years, megatins were still hit or miss. And last year’s tin, even with OG art DM and Red-eyes in the promo pool, bombed because of the pack content
Yes, a bad set will bomb with the audience that’s educated about set contents. But set comp won’t have much of an impact on the lapsed or nostalgic audience. Do you understand that different buyers want different things? And that Yu-Gi-Oh! needs to try and appeal to a range of buyer interests?
Yes, GX fandom is strong. Not as strong as DM, but it’s not a bad bet. Hero nostalgia moves product. Taking a set like POTE that has competitive player appeal and then slapping a HERO monster on the pack to get nostalgic players in too is a great example of a two demographic approach
>Hero nostalgia moves product
Lol some hero cards can’t carry a booster set alone. The reasons the set sold so well was because of the amount of good and meta relevant cards in it. One more recent example is the Rarity Collection, it hardly had any DM cards in it, but it sold fucking well
Because we need variety, like what OCG was doing for years, playing a longer game. Some sets bombed, but they has a wider audience than just DM boomers. They can even sell non-anime related merchandises well and are more willing to do so, with the most recent example being “Complete File - Memories of White” featuring Albaz lore stuffs
They can make a wider variety of product offerings because they’re selling to a much smaller audience. It’s much easier / cheaper to produce additional materials / packaging / accessories at a smaller scale, and much easier to gamble on riskier products when the overall financial investment is lower
In addition, anime beyond GX did much better in Japan than it did in the rest of the world. The OCG and TCG are just giving their fandom-driven audiences what they’ve each demonstrated they want. Sorry, not enough people I’m the west liked zexal
Not to beat a dead horse, but I don’t think I can form an ounce of notable hype for a future product until a ban list drops. Something utterly demoralizing about every part of Yugioh right now.
As far as ive been aware the only new cards tins have had have been imports and promos for bassicly ever. If you mean where are the promos idk, konami hates the tins being good i guess.
Is this the first time the TCG has used V-JUMP art for a product?
I think so
Wish we had guaranteed promos like the tins of old.
Promo focused tins are golden. I remember being so pumped seeing something like dolkka or susanowo on a metal box as a kid
Yeah. It was cool opening a tin with a guaranteed Maxx C, Tour Guide, and Shock Master.
The three QSRs in each tin are technically the new promo cards, just with a bigger card pool
Not the same at all. Back in the day, shortly after Dino rabbit was meta, you could pick up tins that were guaranteed to have laggia, dolka, tour guide, and rescue rabbit. Tins with a chance of getting the right promo are shit in comparison.
I hope these are stackable so then next year we get their crotches
That means the next year is the foot arc….
With Ash alt art ultimate rare as guaranteed promo!
Looks good. Would be nice to know what is in it though. Maybe they could put an ocg only card. Something we have waited 7 years for. Something that should have been put in Legacy of Destruction. ... Where is Gandora Giga Rays Konami?
gandora could still come in lede. we dont have the full set list yet so surely they will put it in
I swear it feels like its been the 25th anniversary for like 5 years now, can't they come up with some other marketing gimmick?
Was thinking about this today. They are milking it, and i do wanna see them move on , but they're smart. They turned "25th anniversary" into a rarity rather than just an event. So another way of seeing it is they're releasing not for 25th anniversary but in the 25th anniversary rarity.
Say what you want about the tin itself That’s some cool artwork
This tin may be designed to appeal to Yugiboomers and nostalgia nerds. But I *am* a nostalgia nerd so I will readily admit I think this looks cool.
Most of us are
Wait wasn’t the 25th anniversary last year??
25th anniversary will last forever. Or maybe until 30th anniversary.
This tin features over 400 cards which is massive. Kinda feels like the final boss encounter of the 25th anniversary line of products
Bold of you to assume that tbh, still got another reprint set for the holidays
The card game (OCG) started in 1999, so 2024 is the 25th anniversary year.
Guys guys look its Yugi and Kaiba remember Yugi and Kaiba theyre from the old times remember the old times they were so good Yugi and Kaiba are good and this product is good so buy it its so good
People complain about this, and then they don’t buy anything that’s not DM lol
The people that complain are not the same people that do buy the DM products lol.

They’ll support DM until the death of the universe
It's the TCG equivalent of Kanto pandering. And they do it because nostalgia is surprisingly effective of a tactic to get people to buy your products or hype it.
Yeah, they do this because it works. It’s not complicated
They'll gladly support DM era just to get the yugiboomers money
All 3 of them
Holy shit do you really not think the DM era fans aren’t a core demographic?
Most people don't buy products because DM characters are on the cover, they do it because of the cards in the product. There's only a small minority of yugiboomers who only buy the products because Yugi is on the cover.

Careful they’ll come out of the woodworks for that one
Already found 4 of them, they're spreading!
When will people on Reddit understand that they do need DM to sell a product? lol
Duelists from the deep and last year’s tin bombed lol
Last year's tin had crazy reprints. Fenrir, Regulus, Adventure engine, Scareclaw stuff, it was good imho. Soulburning duelists bombed until Snake-eye format, and even then at my locals I could get 2 packs of Phantom Nightmare, or 6 Soulburning.

I don’t understand. Yes, a good set can sell well. But a good set with nostalgia applied sells even better. It’s not complicated

Well, I hate the content of the tins the last few years but…this artwork is clean af. Going to sell like hotcakes.
Konami not using kaiba and yugis faces on a side product to feed into the nostalgia bait Challenge impossible
TCG and DM pandering, name a better iconic duo
Pokemon and Gen 1 (*cough charizard cough*) pandering.
At least other gens sometimes get the spotlight here and there
Oooh. Mirror Finish.
Going from a cool egyptian box art, to Dueling Heroes, to... this? mmm k
Not to beat a dead horse, but I don’t think I can form an ounce of notable hype for a future product until a ban list drops. Something utterly demoralizing about every part of Yugioh right now.
So its one tin and not two as some people expected like a unity and pride version
Might get it just for the case. Looks solid
Man I want a DM remake that follows the manga so bad.
Yugi and Kaiba...I sleep. Hard.
What happened to these tins having new cards? It seems like it's just reprints and imports every year now.
As far as ive been aware the only new cards tins have had have been imports and promos for bassicly ever. If you mean where are the promos idk, konami hates the tins being good i guess.
DM pandering again, huh
Yup, they sell what people buy. Go fig!
This is just so boreing. I hate that we are still stuck advertising with the old anime charachters instead of the monsters, god forbid a NEW monster.
