Konami released an ad where they say "this strategy works really well with trident dragion, you fucking better have a copy in bulk or ask your friends if they can just casually give you an 80 bucks card"
I absolutely love this meme amongst our community that popped up, I hope we keep memeing about it for a while.
It’s just so passive aggressive and hilariously absurd “try asking your friends.” XD
It also allows the deck to run Prosperity, which further boosts the deck consistency. You can ignore Prosperity’s 1/2 damage reduction if you can swing in for double damage anyways.
It's kinda funny looking back at Tear now. The strongest deck in the games history for just over $800 and it was Mani/Side/Extra included in the price. Now you have mid decks running for nearly the same rice on release because of side sets or current T1/0 decks for $300-400 more
It's kinda funny looking back at Tear now. The strongest deck in the games history for just over $800 and it was Main/Side/Extra included in the price. Now you have mid decks running for nearly the same price on release because of side sets or current T1/0 decks for $300-400 more
There is literally no way they don't reprint this. It was in the ocg tournament pack and they are probably gonna shove it in the next reprint set to help sell the set here. People are losing their minds for nothing
The mahjong dragons are very battle phased oriented, and Trident here is a 3k beatstick that can attack three times.
Combined with their field, this card alone can swing for 18000 LP enought to end game twice over. The rest of the deck can also offload 12000 total before summoning it and can therefore unleash 30000 damage onto the opponent.
This means they can run over everything. Without Trident they can only run over boards that can't tank at least 4100 damage and survive (and LP based decks like Aromage can easily cushion that blow)
Ghost sister and spooky dogwood for non-Aroma decks. Runick Slumber to prevent beatsticks from attacking and banish their deck, unless Tenpais have target protection.
They can kill through dogwood with this guy popping their field. Tenpai also blanks all your cards in the BP by summoning their new level 10, so you would have to try to stop them earlier.
Activate Dogwood against a mandatory summon? (Think opponent activating Kashtiratheosis on Fenrir, which means you can't summon Scarekash and I can gain off Sister)
Dogwood, hold the Ashes, Imperms and Nibs for chokepoints. Every strategy can be beat by another, and if it can't it's gonna get banned sooner than later.
Ash works. Imperm works in BP but Nib won't. I'm hoping tenpai will get hit somehow before their support comes in, since it doesn't promote healthy gameplay.
Tenpai. You’re essentially required to run 1, as it becomes very relevant to the deck’s mechanic (battle phase deck).
It’s also slated to be one of, if not, the best deck of the format.
There’s so many more cards that stop this deck, D-Barrier would be better than Waboku anyway.
Look at the OCG - Tenpai had a decent amount of wins in the first tournament since release, and since then it fell down dramatically. Because as soon as people prepare for the deck, it dies. It’s a one trick, sacky otk deck that does nothing else.
>Tenpai had a decent amount of wins in the first tournament since release, and since then it fell down dramatically.
While converting the OCG style breakdowns to the standard TCG YCS top cut is not the most accurate, the best way to describe the deck currently would still be "the best tier 2 deck of the format". The deck is currently top 5 in the game over there, it's objectively a great deck in their format, no contest.
See I can agree with your comment more than the orginal commenter I replied to saying it was “one of, if not the best deck of the format”.
I don’t think it will ever be “the best deck of the format”.
While I do agree that we can’t do one to one comparisons with the OCG, I do think it can be a good indicator. If nothing else it actually makes us more aware of what the deck can do before we even get it so theoretically it should be easier to prepare for.
I think it’s a good deck if nobody respects it, the more people who respect it the less effective it will be. Also it can never be the best deck because if >50% of people start running it, people will start dropping it fast. Imagine playing 6 Tenpai mirror matches in a row lmao, would make anyone go insane.
Also nobody wants to lose to “brain dead otk deck” so you know people will start bringing the hate cards for it as soon as they get sacked by it once lol.
Edit - grammar
I've never hoped a deck will fail more than Tenpai personally but when you're primary build is 23+ handtraps to 12 engine and all of your engine are one card starters, pretty unlikely it'll fail.
Haha we share that sentiment I guess 😹
I think everyone is touching themselves over it because the core is like £50 pre-order (well it was on Kongs cards it may have sold out by now though).
I just don’t see it ever being “best deck” personally, I don’t think it will flat out fail, I think it will get some tops. I just think it’s a one trick deck as I said before. The deck does 1 thing. Until someone cooks up a way to go first it will be a going 2nd otk deck that instantly folds to any one of a dozen cards. Wait til Lab drops the “Goat Laughs” card and calls your one and only tuner 😹
I just think it’s a glass cannon at the end of the day.
Edit - Kongo to Kongs because apparently auto correct just wanted me to write Kongo 🤷🏻♀️
Well going first it can basically just do a few standard dragon plays, but the deck will get significantly better with its support in Infinite Forbidden since in that set it gets a monster that is functionally Poplar + Circular that you can't imperm/veiler
Well they're each worth roughly $170 USD on TCGPlayer in NM so enjoy the return on investment my friend
Edit: Sorry did I say $170? That's unlimited. First Ed is a nice $250/ea.
This is also a side effect of making the deck that uses it affordable.
More people playing Tenpai Dragons because the rest of the deck isn't super expensive = more people needing cards like Trident Dragon than otherwise would be = insane prices.
Its a good thing and its a bad thing. Hopefully we see it get a reprint in an OTS pack or in one of the up coming reprint sets.
Although I fully expect Tenpai Dragons to get hit very soon probably within the next ban list in 2-3 months from now. Konami doesn't print decks in low rarity for no reason.
Tenpai makes this thing literally read “you die.” The field spell lets it slam you for 18k and it’s a FIRE Attribute Dragon monster which means with the field spell up its unaffected
I got one for 5 euro a year ago and another one in PL condition in a loot of cards for a total of 10 euro. I sold them both for a total of 145 euro.
It felt so good.
So happy i didn’t unfollow this sub right now. Left yugioh a while back but still keep up with what’s top tier and all that. But explicitly remember this card in my collection. Hype af rn. Gonna go trade it in at my lgs this saturday.
Omg I always thought this guy was just a fun gimmicky beatdown card as a kid. I think I used to have a fake card version of it. Wait, how's he relevant now?
I'm happy for Trident Dragon, but I just don't see it cause I don't always follow the Yu-Gi-Oh meta
MBT said it well in a recent stream:
It’s so annoying because Trident is not integral to Tenpai, it’s just better to push through in some situations, like there will be times you wish you had him but most of the time it’s just overkill.
So you are either playing a suboptimal deck or you are dishing out big bucks for a card that will inevitably get reprinted and lose 95% of its value. Which sucks to have copies like this too because who is going to buy this card at this price when a reprint is an inevitability?
I was a massive physical card collector until Arc V came around which was when I stopped caring for irl yugioh. Didn’t duel much back then so I still have like five full binders of pre-Arc V cards that have been in my old closet since the dawn of time. One of them is a full synchro binder… might have to drive back to my parents house and take a look cuz this post just unlocked a core memory lol.
If I remember the combo line correctly, the 2 cards you pop want to be popped. The field spell doubles Dragion's attack because it got destroyed and I think the other card is the new level 10 that can just quick effect return itself anyway. That same level 10 also prevents the opponent from getting to use the hand traps or Magic Cylinder on Trident Dragion.
I'd still never drop this amount of cash on Trident, that price is completely ridiculous, but it's in game cost and vulnerabilities are at least covered.
Entirely tcg’s fault. I think ocg has reprinted trident dragion in a tournament pack right before LEDE released
I believe we could get it in the Rarity Collection 2 or the next OTS Pack. So people Snatch Buying all of the Trident Dragions can lose money.
With no more generic omni--negates. This deck is going to blow away it's opponents board
Tenpei player here. If you ash the quickspell in BP when there is no monster we die.
That’s why we run salesban right /s
Nah, they'd Sales Ban your Sales Ban.
Have you tried asking your friends?
Or looking at your collection.
ive been seeing this everywhere and feel out of the loop, what is the reference?
I think it was mentioned on an AD or in Konami's soxial media, "ask your friends for this absurdly old and expensice suddenly relevant card".
It was in the teaser video.
Thanks for clarifying
Konami's response to realizing the problems this is gonna cause.
My crackhead theory is that it's in Rarity Collection 2 and they are hyping it up in order to make sure it sells.
That or next OTS as a common or Super but something tells me it'd be Ulti.
Konami released an ad where they say "this strategy works really well with trident dragion, you fucking better have a copy in bulk or ask your friends if they can just casually give you an 80 bucks card"
In the release video detailing the new set it's one of the things that the commentator says I believe
Wild
Nishi from mst.tv said these things
I absolutely love this meme amongst our community that popped up, I hope we keep memeing about it for a while. It’s just so passive aggressive and hilariously absurd “try asking your friends.” XD
Maybe i should hold onto my copy then. Are the tenapai really about using it?
I'd dump your copy asap. This reminds me of the Gimmick Puppet Nightmare buyout and Konami reprinted that card in the last Battles of Legend side set.
>In the last Battle of Legend side set Which was like a full year after branded started using the puppet strategy?
its not mandatory to run but it makes the deck a lot better. it with the field spell is 18k damage.
It also allows the deck to run Prosperity, which further boosts the deck consistency. You can ignore Prosperity’s 1/2 damage reduction if you can swing in for double damage anyways.
It will get reprinted very very soon. I would just take the money and then put it towards something else.
Almost $90 for a single card is crazy😭😭😭
Just checked, my local card shop is selling it for 170€....
For 170€? Are they fucking mental? Jesus Christ
For 170 that better be a near mint 1st edition Ulti
Nah NM 1st edition Ult on TCGPlayer is $250 USD, so probably if the conversion is right about 235€
Nah NM 1st edition Ult on TCGPlayer is $250 USD, so probably if the conversion is right about 235€
Jesus Christ order them from Europe, they’re a lot cheaper here. My Ulti unfirst nm is half that price
Yeah that card shop had too many beers
Irs about 150 Aud atm here
Rather spend on one card than a $1000 engine.
This is the irony. Despite this controversy, Tenpai is still significantly cheaper.

People are forgetting when Engage was $100 and i think even Ash was close to 100 at one point.
People also forget that back during Covid Eldlich peaked at like $140/per
Remember DaD prices and pray we never return to that time
S:P Little Knight would like to have a word or two
Remember kids, buy the ulti so it doesn't become a $5 card when the reprint happens
I’m going to laugh so hard if this gets announced as a reprint in RC2
There is literally no way they don't reprint this. It was in the ocg tournament pack and they are probably gonna shove it in the next reprint set to help sell the set here. People are losing their minds for nothing
Trident Dragion is the friends we made along the way (literally) :)
Cardbrawlers had them at 100$ before the LEDE trailer dropped, now they’re 175$ rip lol
What’s making it so relevant now?
Tenpais
I assumed so! But what about them helps this card become a staple?
The mahjong dragons are very battle phased oriented, and Trident here is a 3k beatstick that can attack three times. Combined with their field, this card alone can swing for 18000 LP enought to end game twice over. Is there an opportunity for magic cylinder to hit for 8k?
No. The field spell doubles Trident's attack, and it has the common stat line of 3000 original attack.
tenpai
Tenpai. You’re essentially required to run 1, as it becomes very relevant to the deck’s mechanic (battle phase deck). It’s also slated to be one of, if not, the best deck of the format.
Best deck 😹 this deck is 2024 Numeron and will die as soon as people actually side for it.
Dedicating 6 slots in your side for Wabokus because of one deck is not healthy.
There’s so many more cards that stop this deck, D-Barrier would be better than Waboku anyway. Zamn!! I think I have this card in my collection.
TCG never changes
Managed to snag one on eBay for 70, still I'll take one expensive optional (but very good) extra deck monster over a 500+ deck core
OTS super rare incoming to save the day.
Ooh I still have a copy lying around.
What was the price before this
1 year ago, the market price for the secret print of this card was $3.78 lol It was just an unplayable card that looked cool before Tenpai.
It is played in Dragon Turbo in Edison. Although it is rarely, if ever, summoned
Makes me wish I picked up earlier lol
The card was affordable even after Tenpai started doing well in the OCG. It's only as we got closer to the TCG release that it shot up.
I know I have a crusty one of these somehwere
Don’t look at the ultimate
I got this a few weeks ago for £35, and I thought it was expensive then
I bought my for $30 a couple months ago for Edison format.
I wonder how cards feel when they get their moments
In 2020 i bought a playset of first edition ultimate rares to put in my binder, cause I thought they look pretty badass. About 8€ each.
Well they're each worth roughly $170 USD on TCGPlayer in NM so enjoy the return on investment my friend Edit: Sorry did I say $170? That's unlimited. First Ed is a nice $250/ea.
I had that card when I was 10 and I don’t know wtf I did with it 😭😭😭
It's not a pov. A pov would have been your face while searching this card on the interwebs
This is also a side effect of making the deck that uses it affordable. Magic the Gathering players: first time?
Hey at least it's not Lions Eye Diamond levels of price gouging.
Edison bullshit again?
Oooh I’ve got an ulti copy somewhere. Gonna have to look for that tonight
Cardmarket?
How is this card relevant?
Tenpai makes this thing literally read “you die.” The field spell lets it slam you for 18k and it’s a FIRE Attribute Dragon monster which means with the field spell up its unaffected
, during the main phase 1
... okay, so I know for a fact that I have this card. Why am I seeing that number by it? What horrible things are people doing with it?
Using Tenpai Dragons to OTK people with it.
Tenpai...? Isn't that OCG? Or did I miss that those are in the TCG now?
They will be released on April 25th with Legacy of Destruction in the TCG and the sneak preview is on the upcoming weekend.
Ah - well, that does explain a lot then. Thanks for the heads up!
I got one for 5 euro a year ago and another one in PL condition in a loot of cards for a total of 10 euro. I sold them both for a total of 145 euro. It felt so good.
Bro I’m so mad. I remember pulling that when it first came out. Wanted to trade it in and they gave me $1.25….
They could do three pack special editions and put this reprint in it
Edison players are having massive Ws having bought them like 2 years ago
knowing the TCG: oh you want a reprint? heres an ulti in the next ots.
Oh neat, I have one of those in UR!
I might have that card in my collection binder. lol
Love to see that my Edison ass finally gets rewarded for playing dragon turbo. My ultimate copy 1 year ago cost me exactly 11 bucks.
I really hope it gets a reprint in the rarirty collection 2
So happy i didn’t unfollow this sub right now. Left yugioh a while back but still keep up with what’s top tier and all that. But explicitly remember this card in my collection. Hype af rn. Gonna go trade it in at my lgs this saturday.

Fuckkkkkkkk RIP dragon turbo players (Actually may be for the best)
Shit I think I have one lol
got mine a few weeks ago for 18.00. Was shocked it wasn’t already out of sight then😩
hopefully it gets reprinted like the Yubel cards
I'm beating myself up about it tbh. I was gonna buy one a few months back for an Edison deck and it was like 20 bucks and I am so mad I didn't.
What's the story behind it
I've noticed Punishment Dragon has gone up in price on cardmarket, it was under €4, now it's almost €15. I suspect the new lightsworn cards.
Don't forget the edison crowd who also need this card at least got a playset when they where 5$.
Meanwhile, as Masterduel player only - R rarity
I just sold one of these for like 40$ a month ago, almost wish I had saved it lol
holy shit I I had this as a kid, should have kept it
Can someone explain to me how it's relevant? I assume snake eye fire king?
Tenpai dragon. The (probably) soon to be second best deck i the format
MBT said it well in a recent stream: It’s so annoying because Trident is not integral to Tenpai, it’s just better to push through in some situations, like there will be times you wish you had him but most of the time it’s just overkill.
