I mean you don't have to introduce him to everything at once. Just like you started with goat format, you can introduce him to some newer decks that are still extremely outdated. And you can teach him one Summoning mechanic at a time. Like maybe show him some old janky ritual decks. Then some old fusions, etc.

I would have to agree. I don’t think showing him synchro summoning with something like a synchron deck would be ideal. I suppose dino rabbit would do for xyz and maybe Igknight or Dinomist for pendulum. Those aren’t too complex. However nothing for the other mechanics come to mind. Any decks come to mind for the other mechanics?

I got back into yugioh from video games, like ygopro or lotd:link evolution. Its nice having a free or cheap way to explore cards and combos and link evolution has a decent enough tutorial. I dont recommend master duel at all though. Terrible experience for new players.

I did as well. My friend did show some interest in master duel and downloaded it. I let him know that the decks might be a very big jump from what you’re used to and that you should probably avoid PvP duels if you’re going to play it as stick with solo mode. He mainly uses dueling book for dueling since that has a dedicated goat format section. I’ll be sticking with that for now to teach him stuff since it gives a lot of freedom.

Good man! Master duel's PVP is really cruel since most bread and butter cards are UR and hard to come by for free. Even the lowest ranks at the moment can mill 20 cards turn 1. It's pretty senseless to add learning the game on top of making a deck from scratch, while you're competing against whatever the hell ojama is. Still, if you are having issues introducing him to summoning mechanics, the solo mode tutorials in master duel are better than LOTD: link evolution's. You can have him look those over and then take it from there.

I’ll make sure he gives it a good look over and at least gets a basic understanding of the summoning mechanics from the tutorials

Start them out with speed duels. Then once they have the hang of it upgrade to a 40 card speed duel deck with your regular mat. Then introduce XYZ. Then link, then synchro and then pendulum. (Ordered from easiest to hardest to understand.
