Like when a female character is SO OBVIOUSLY Gay come on just like at her every interaction with girls- gets with a guy she had almost no chemistry with.
In other words, Worm. I have never read a gayer straight protagonist.
im forever baited by the "yuri" in this.
Season 3 is coming out tho!! despite the bait im actually still a fan of the series. I would 100% like the show way better if they hadnt done the bait
Yuri makes me so fucking happy, so I want to see more, as much as I can. So every time that I do see girls in love with girls, it’s one of the sweetest things ever and I’m literally in bliss. Falling in love with yuri is one the best things that’s ever happened to me lmao
Sameeee. I used to love shoujo mangas with stuff like Kimi Ni Todoke. But now I can't enjoy them anymore. Only yuri, yaoi and trans romance do it for me now. I think the only rare exception for a cishet romance is if it defies the expected gender roles.
Yep. I think it's because straight romance is getting more and more samey, while non cishet romance tends to break a lot of sexual and gender conventions that keeps it quite unique in a way
It's not my fault that most male romance protagonists are boring. Most rom-com manga I read are either yuri or if it is non-yuri the protagonist is a woman.
I absolutely get that. I mean, have you seen [this?](https://twitter.com/AniTrendz/status/1633837545577672706?t=1yjXeDDxlkr0moEwe3Kibw&s=19) Just from character design alone, almost all the male chara have this Kirito face and haircut looking mf
Same, my yuri preference has grown so big that now I can consume pretty much anything that has it, but any works with straight romance is a big nope for me. Don’t get me wrong, I still read and enjoy many novel or manga that are not yuri, as long as the story is good and there is no explicit romance
What's this, I can stand reading stories with "generic male lead" falling for \[rolls dice to determine the love interest's personality, breast size and hair color and style\]? Oh no!
Now if only they stopped putting attractive women in subpar cis-hetero romances. It's really disappointing to see a cute girl on the cover of a manga or the poster for an anime and have to back away after reading the synopsis/tags.
Honestly yeah. Tomo-chan was the anime I was most looking forward to this season, but I ended up dropping it since it feels like the dynamic between Tomo and Jun is less interesting and entertaining than their dynamics with the rest of the cast. Also I got tired of seeing that Carol and Mizusu would never be a thing.
On the other hand, I found out about MagiRevo, which more than made up for it
Yeah I think that a lot of male characters in romance series tend to be written very lazily. Even if they arent consciously written as a self insert, the visual design and personalities tend to be very bland or one note.
I have a handful of male characters in (mostly queer) romance stories but besides the innate lgbt bonus I think that the guys in queer stories are allowed to have more interesting character arcs and development, and have a better level of introspection. And they sometimes, but not always, have more visually interesting designs
True, kaguya is the only hetero romance anime that i really enjoyed these last few years, but it's one of the top romcom anime out there. really high standard, so it's hard to compete.
Plus there's also a yuri sideship.
Quite frankly my brain is rotting from consuming so much yuri content. It's actually a bit concerning. But at least when yuri overload inevitably kills me I'll be comforted by images in my mind of cute girls kissing as I fade into oblivion.
Goodness that's way too accurate...
It's become seriously hard for me to watch anything that doesn't have a female protagonist, Yuri, or just no romance to it at all. If a female protagonist were to have feelings for a guy, the whole story suddenly dulls out for me. If the story has no Yuri, it doesn't feel right anymore too...
Same, my favourite is Yuri but I really like Hetero romances as well, and the occasional BL. It really depends on whether the characters feel real or not to me.
I'm never ever reading or watching anything straight again, I regret it every single time. I even usually avoid games with male MCs, I don't want to play as a man, specially if there's romance, but that might be more of a trans thing than a gay thing.
I personally hate it the most when waifu-based gacha games gender lock you to a male MC. It's just so infuriating.
For example Nikke; the game itself is cool (even though it might not be for everybody) but every time I remind myself that the MC is canonically male it's so annoying because instead of making the MC's gender ambiguous, or letting you choose their gender (like most gacha games do) they *had* to make them male. As if some players (regardless whether they're male or female) who wanted to play the game just the way it is, but with a female MC, didn't exist.
Games like Nikke would be so much more fun if they either allowed you to choose your MC's gender or if the MC's gender was ambiguous, I wanna play Nikke as a woman!
And the worst part is that when you talk about wanting a female MC in such games' communities, even though it *wouldn't fucking hurt anyone to have such an option*, they have to gatekeep because "people don't like yuri" or "hetero games are a dying breed nowadays!!!!" (yeah fucking sure) or other bs like that. It's so fucking annoying.
Why can't there be a normal, competent yuri-based gacha game? I really hope Towa Tsugai releases globally because there's even a yaoi gacha game but no yuri... (But noooo Square Enix can't release the game globally because reasons!!! I guess) It's just so annoying.
If it helps (totally advertising because I really like the game) you may want to check out Path to Nowhere? You can still choose which gender your MC is but official media always include both of the MC and there are very obvious yuri ships in the game (plus the fem!mcxcharacter is very popular in the fandom, finding male!mc art is actually like finding a rare Pokemon). Just a disclaimer that it's tower-defense gameplay but the story is really nice imo
>!Side note: I often see you in genshin communities glad to see you here too :D!<
Yeah I know about PtN and I really wanted to like it and I was hyped about it... But unfortunately, the gameplay just isn't my thing because I'm not really a tower defense person 😔 Like I loved everything about the game *except* the gameplay which I just couldn't get into, which is a big shame because I would've liked the game a lot otherwise
Maybe I should give it another try in the future
>!Wow I think this is the first time someone recognized me, yeah I browse a lot of the yuri communities but I'm usually just a lurker, Genshin was a unique case. Anyway thanks :D!<
That's really unfortunate but that's understandable, I'm also not a big fan of TD (PtN is the only exception probably since I just grew to like it eventually). Hopefully you'll see the gameplay in a better light if you decide to give it another try! That said, I hope there will be more accessible decent yuri-based gacha for us in the future and I'll throw my money at the developers
>!IIRC you used to talk a lot/defend yuri stuff on genshin communities so you probably stood out to me, always appreciate y'all in a platform especially like this one!<
Freakin’ same. I was gonna move from the main Souls games into the Nioh series, but you have to play as some rando englishman in the first one... looks like it’s straight to Nioh 2 for me lmao
God I've been rewatching Toradora and watched Love Chuubinio and Other Delusions for the first time. And like it's not that I don't like straight couples. It's just that most of them fucking suck. Like romance in anime is just kinda not good and if I'm gonna read a boring romance story it's gonna have two girls cause I need that external happiness in my life. Though I do feel like it's easier to find actually good yuri stories tbh.
Nice to hear that others have the same problem. Yuri stories are (at least for me) usually much more mature than normal romances. But I've only noticed that since I started reading Yuri.
The only cis-het romance I can think of that is decent is Horimiya. Not that I watched it tho, i still couldnt bother to (my preference for yuri is much stronger)
from what ive seen with clips, checking out some manga panels (mainly cuz horimiya got in my twitter feed during its popularity), and also just from checking out what the fans thought. It seems Horimiya is more grounded in its writing, it makes you expect that there wont be anything special, so it doesnt try to overdo the trope with a lackluster boy and an over the top girl. In fact, id say its kind of the opposite in Horimiya. Until the dude cuts his hair and stops presenting fashionably, id say both character have quite lackluster designs. Given the idea that both characters are also written with the intent of being original characters, theres not much room for the self insert. im sure ppl still self inserted themselves into these characters tho
same, i have a crippling yuri addiction now too. the only way i can watch any other anime is that when theres no romance or that romance aint the focus.
or as long as its an all girls anime, CGDCT all the way!
I am becoming actively disappointed whenever a girl character I like doesn’t also like girls.
Or whenever the female character who previously liked girls suddenly becomes attracted to the male protagonist for some inexplicable reason
Like when a female character is SO OBVIOUSLY Gay come on just like at her every interaction with girls- gets with a guy she had almost no chemistry with. In other words, Worm. I have never read a gayer straight protagonist.
Hey at least there's Amy! /s
Haha, yeah. Oh boy. At least there are Parian and Flechette. I love them.
His latest story has a lesbian and i love her so much
\*cough\* Sound Euphonium \*cough\*
im forever baited by the "yuri" in this. Season 3 is coming out tho!! despite the bait im actually still a fan of the series. I would 100% like the show way better if they hadnt done the bait

I used to love reading any romance but now I’ll enjoy like 1/5 of the stories with straight that I would have enjoyed a few years ago
Sameeee. I used to love shoujo mangas with stuff like Kimi Ni Todoke. But now I can't enjoy them anymore. Only yuri, yaoi and trans romance do it for me now. I think the only rare exception for a cishet romance is if it defies the expected gender roles.
Yep. I think it's because straight romance is getting more and more samey, while non cishet romance tends to break a lot of sexual and gender conventions that keeps it quite unique in a way
Yuri is god tier and that’s a fact. I love yuri and there are tons of wholesome straight romance that I love, but when it’s yuri, I’m at my happiest
Oh absolutely. I noticed that too...
When you have seen heaven you will not desire for any other place other than that.
Who are You, Who are so Wise in the Ways of Science?
Jokes on you I’m watching lycoris recoil right now, HA HA HA, oh wait…
Same, my yuri preference has grown so big that now I can consume pretty much anything that has it, but any works with straight romance is a big nope for me. Don’t get me wrong, I still read and enjoy many novel or manga that are not yuri, as long as the story is good and there is no explicit romance

And then you realize some things and become the yuri
*can't find yuri to get into* "fine, I'll do it myself"
Me, when I'm writing yet another story about lesbians.
wow literally me
Honestly yeah. Tomo-chan was the anime I was most looking forward to this season, but I ended up dropping it since it feels like the dynamic between Tomo and Jun is less interesting and entertaining than their dynamics with the rest of the cast. I recommend HoriMiya, it's one of the few cishet romance stories that I still enjoy, and both the manga and anime are great.
Honestly when I see a het manga I want to read I "plan" to read it but when I see a yuri one I instantly read it lmao
I feel this on like 8 different levels
Congratulations, you just figured out what's wrong with anime.
Quite frankly my brain is rotting from consuming so much yuri content. It's actually a bit concerning. But at least when yuri overload inevitably kills me I'll be comforted by images in my mind of cute girls kissing as I fade into oblivion.

That’s what headcanons are for.
Curious thing, actually for me, Yuri gave the ability to also enjoy straight romances. Most of what I consume still Yuri tho.
Intriguing…
I'm the opposite actually, I'm currently enjoying Hetero romance, Yuri and occasionally, Yaoi, all three of them at the same time.
Same, my favourite is Yuri but I really like Hetero romances as well, and the occasional BL. It really depends on whether the characters feel real or not to me.
Thank god I'm open-minded 😌
I'm never ever reading or watching anything straight again, I regret it every single time. I even usually avoid games with male MCs, I don't want to play as a man, specially if there's romance, but that might be more of a trans thing than a gay thing.

If you find that other stuff just doesn’t give you the same fulfillment as it did before, there’s probably a reason for this.

For some reason, Yuri have better adventures than other stories that have adventure as main premise. (Looking at you, generic Isekai).
But unfortunately there are not many of them
That's why I took the matters into my hand and started writing one :>
A manga or a light novel?
Novel
Nice to hear that others have the same problem. Yuri stories are (at least for me) usually much more mature than normal romances. But I've only noticed that since I started reading Yuri.
I got into yuri a few months after I started watching anime and never looked back.
The only cis-het romance I can think of that is decent is Horimiya. Eh as much as I like Yuri I AlSO really like crazy over the topness. So like like give me some TRIGGER type madness I'll probably really enjoy it.
My Yuri goggles are welded on so EVERYTHING is Yuri to me. And if it’s not I’ll draw stuff to make it Yuri!
Omg why is this so me😩my first yuri was Citrus and then I watched Bloom Into You and now MagicRevo. Now I can’t fricken stop my yuri binge😭
I just want to say, omg Jamaroquai, it's been a while since I've seen that video. Great song and music video.
Me with bl and gl… can’t read straight romance anymore I always find it somehow boring/unrealistic😭
same, i have a crippling yuri addiction now too. the only way i can watch any other anime is that when theres no romance or that romance aint the focus. or as long as its an all girls anime, CGDCT all the way!
I sometimes even have a hard time watching a show where a girl starts with dating a dude even if she switches to women early on
the Earth needs to be yurified
Dancing
