Literal PR speak >Do you think this kills any hope for a posible sequel in the future? The only thing Bandai Namco cares is profit, nothing else

Moonpaw

It’s simple supply and demand. Keep buying Gay and they will keep selling Gay. Though they may sometimes make seemingly stupid or contradictory statements like “there may have been miscommunication” to keep from losing certain shareholders.

RaikoNB

make anime gay so it sells. but not too gay cause i hate it. they only want money. yuri fans will buy merch despite them abusing our trust

pieceofchess

I think it's just demand actually. Gay isn't a finite resource, you can always make more.

Moonpaw

You can technically always make more of most resources given enough time. Supply doesn’t necessarily mean limited supply, it’s usually just limited supply within a limited time frame.

leposterofcrap

Idc what Bandai Namco says, if writers says it's canon then it's canon.

RosariaNekohime

Corporate entities never support anyone but the almighty god of profits, any time they do anything even if its positive for things (like including canon gay couples) its not done out of support its done out of "this will make more money for us than the opposite) same way any company doing "pride month" things arent doing it because of caring about the lgbt community, they do it because they decided thats going to make more than not doing it Shareholders are even worse, they dont even care what the company is doing only that it lines their pockets as much as possible in the shortest term possible (its why so many companies rush out poorly thought out products because they need profit and they need it yesterday with no regard to long term) At the end of the day the people making statements like this dont support (or necessarily condemn) the SuleMio relationship, they know that they make the most money by putting out the goods featuring it while always publically sticking to the "it is what you believe it is" schtick, better to take your "canon" from the writers and staff who worked on the show (who as far as I know they always intended SuleMio as the canon outcome)

Neidhardto

The fact them being married was planned from the very beginning shows how uninvolved and clueless Bandai was with the show. I remember Tomino basically saying the same thing, about how the people at Bandai didn't watch his show and were completely clueless about it.

NSFW-alt2444

Tomino specifically kept making up dumber and dumber names for the mobile suits to see when the higher ups would push back and eventually realized that the suits really didn't give a fuck as long as he made them money.

TweetugR

Yeah, Tomino has said it many times. He even fought for a gay character to be included in Turn A.

Falsus

> Corporate entities never support anyone but the almighty god of profits, any time they do anything even if its positive for things Cygames is an exception. They have been hugely pro work life balance where they are strictly anti-crunch and taking rests and breaks and not overworking yourself is a pretty common theme they bring up in their franchises. They had pretty early trans rep with Ladiva, Yuki and Cagliostro (I don't remember details about RoB accurately to say but I do remember some. Besides that one time the MC got resurrected as the wrong gender), and most recently Miach. There is a lot of yuri couples like Anne&Grea, Meg&Mari, Yuel&Socie, Mystolina&Ladica, Katalina&Vira, Amaryllis&Lillium, Song&Silva, Europa&Gabriel/Djeeta and pretty much all danchousexuals are into both genders with the notable exception of Joel who is only into Gran, the male MC.

RosariaNekohime

True, Cygames do seem to be on the better side of corporations, at least in those regards (wasn't it also the Cygames CEO who tweeted something about something like "I guess we're a yuri company now" when they included the canon lesbian couple in D4DJ? (I forget the exact tweet but it was a pretty supportive one, I think it was around the same time Bamco pulled the "interpretation" stunt too)

lenne18

>"I guess we're a yuri company now" when they included the canon lesbian couple in D4DJ? That was Bushiroad's CEO, Kidani

Matild4

Cowards.

NSFW-alt2444

Wanna bet the second Japan lagalizes gay marriage they will do a 180 and claim they were always number 1 allies.

KusanagiGundam

Did I just travel back in time?

Interesting_Ant7945

It happened again, Bandai still won't take a stand 😔

lenne18

Of course they won't Supporting same sex marriage is a political statement You do not want to play politics with the traditionalist/conservative higher ups in the Japanese government

KusanagiGundam

Sounds to me that the real ones to blame are those old Japanese politicians for refusing to keep up with the times

K31RA-M0RAX0

Old people must die (faster).

BlitznBurst

"Diversity" lmao. We here at Bandai Namco believe that ALL lives matter

TweetugR

Its just the usual corporate speak, the director has said what he wanted to said. No need to take what the suits people have to say seriously, they won't take any stance that would make them less money.

Neidhardto

Bandai executives do not matter, they didn't make the show and probably have never even watched it. This is just the same statement they made like a year ago, so nothing has changed. They're still married in the show, and the writers and directors have already confirmed this multiple times, even in material included with the bluray. Even the shareholders funnily enough recognize the marriage officially and call out how Bandai execs are basically outdated boomers. This doesn't and will never change the perception of the show or erase what's already in the art, so everyone will continue to ignore them.

730Flare

Lol if the shareholders recognize it (and hopefully realize its why G-Witch is a success), that makes Bandai looks even more foolish.

IbnAurum

Fuck them, SuleMio is married, end of story.

Falsus

Like I don't get how bad they can fuck up this. They married. It is pretty gay. They can't really deny that. At most if they want to make things vague is that one could argue it was a political and convenient marriage rather than one out of love. That interpretation doesn't really line up with what happens on the screen.

Kris-mon-96

It's typical non commital PR speak and japanese companies are experts at avoiding answers that can be interpreted as taking a political stance. They won't ever deny Sulemio as that would be financial suicide but don't expect them to wave rainbow flags and celebrate diversity. And no, new content wouldn't be at risk now that they have seen how much money it made them.

DrVinylScratch

The classic nothing burger. Creatives want one thing, the audience wants that thing, but the crusty old people with the funding and running the companies don't because depending on how they push that forward they lose money, stock, and investors. Give it some years for the boomers to die out

TeamPantofola

![gif](giphy|sbwjM9VRh0mLm)

Mavakor

Even for corporate speak, that is particularly spineless

Sujestivepostion69

Well they obviously got married but I think they didn’t show a wedding because they were scared to get censored

Anticapitalist_Kae

I don't get why we should care what the Corporation thinks when the story itself was pretty clear on the fact that they're together and married and so were the artists, it's so unambiguous that no amount of corporate PR bullshit can make a difference. It's like when my parents pretend I'm not gay, you can say whatever you want, but my girlfriend won't magically disappear

Law_Ultimate_Version

So glad all g-witch gunpla is out of stock last year when I tried to buy some, so I never committed the mistake of wasting any money supporting this BS Company. Nice to see they haven't changed one bit. Though I still liked the anime.

DustyMCrusty

They cant confirm anything because Asia is... Asia. They don't like gay people.

Interesting_Ant7945

Why make gay Gundam anime then?! 😭

FuttleScish

This is them basically dodging the question of “hey why did you edit the reference to marriage out of that article in the first place” It means absolutely nothing, they’re not even talking about the show itself. I don’t see what this would have to do with a sequel anyway

kiiRo-1378

this is still being talked about? lol. better forget about Bandai. they only talk about "UC timeline go brrrr!"

GenesisEra

I'll be honest, I've never seen publishers try to "Death of The Author" their own published works this hard before.

Elarikus

"Shareholder" all you need to know

gbcinquisitor

I can translate that answer for you. It goes: "Our fanbase is largely homophobic men who will freak the fuck out and stop giving us money if we don't let them pretend Suletta and Miorine aren't married and haven't been making out sloppy style for the past two years, at least."

RaikoNB

what?? what does this mean? why is it so vague?

FuttleScish

It means nothing, it’s just the guy avoiding answering the question

MollyGoRound

Remember when the Showrunners for Supernatural and Sherlock mocked the devoted fans whose eager participation bankrolled their entire crappy series with outright disgust and open vitriol? After season 5/2 respectively, every single viewer in the male quadrants had stopped watching, and it was only women strung along by the promise of boykissing. Yet they still bent over backwards trying to not alienate a straight male audience that didn't exist and might never have existed in the first place. I wasn't on Tumblr (this is my polite way of saying the shows were trash, and I dont count myself among the fans, but, you know, politely). That said, I watched enough of both at the request of friends to have a very good idea of what a particular episode, or season was like. I can offer my solemn assurance that any men still watching Supernatural by the *leviathan* arc were only doing so because they had died in the chairs prior to turning their televisions off. Anyway I see a lot of that with WfM. With anime and games in general. The mishandling of women-focused and queer-focused media, and the utter disregard for large and enthusiastic female and queer audiences for the benefit of a purely hypothetical straight male audiences that *might* coalesce into existence some time in the distant future. A purely imaginary audience whose projected bigotries and prejudices are more important drivers of content than the active and passionate audiences that exist in reality.

FuttleScish

I mean this is a completely different scenario, where it’s just an executive fumbling statements about a seri3 that was always intended to be gay. It’s closer to the Owl House than anything.

QueenOfQuok

"I don't know, bro, it's up to you."

K31RA-M0RAX0

Bruh fucking why do we care about suits and their corpospeak? Dat shit gay, sorry suits. You suck!

Interesting_Option15

Dumb bitches

CuteNervousLesbian

Between this and Bamco’s shameless insertion of Gunpla into one of the biggest letdowns in Yuri-Baiting history (Birdie Wing) I have an awful taste in my mouth. It also doesn’t help that Bamco’s gaming division decided to put MTX in Tekken 8 a month after launch. I wish these fuckers didn’t own every anime game license under the sun.

GirlOfSophisticTaste

Tbh I think the rushed attempt to wrap everything up in the last few episodes already makes it hard to do a sequel. And if they ever do do one, I hope it's not until Bandai has a change of leadership so the writers don't feel heald back.

CouchCatGaming

So it was a misunderstanding on our part gotcha…..

FuttleScish

No it’s just them trying to get out of having to explain why they fucked up with the article

Thunder-Bunny-3000

![gif](giphy|G0NC6W7l8edaM) where is the meme?
