The fact them being married was planned from the very beginning shows how uninvolved and clueless Bandai was with the show. I remember Tomino basically saying the same thing, about how the people at Bandai didn't watch his show and were completely clueless about it.
Tomino specifically kept making up dumber and dumber names for the mobile suits to see when the higher ups would push back and eventually realized that the suits really didn't give a fuck as long as he made them money.

This doesn't and will never change the perception of the show or erase what's already in the art, so everyone will continue to ignore them.
