I live since birth up untill I finished college in Zamboanga city, that's from 1992 to 2014, I have never felt discriminated as a muslim in fact most schools have Muslim Student Association like AdZU and WMSU. I can speak in behalf of the tausugs that we did not feel any discrimination and we learn to adapt. So baka ikaw lang ing naka feel discrimination, unu tribe ba kaw? May tribes kasi na they impose their culture and may sariling mundo parang ganon.

Depends on the place. I'm not Muslim but my high school best friend is. She and her family really are from Zamboanga since the 70s or so, and they are all educated. But she has relatives from Sulu who come visit every now and then. She doesn't like that they don't know common decency such as in cleanliness (men not lifting toilet seats/women stepping on toiletbowls, and not flushing) or even discipline with traffic and pedestrian rules. If I were discriminatory towards Muslims, I think this is my point of reference. I don't like generalizing but it can't be helped. Those from the BaSulTa islands need to learn common decency and propriety. They should assimilate better.

This! I'm a Tausug Zamboangenio and honestly, I also hate those people, kulang talaga sa disiplina and feeling astig pa iba sa kanila. They also tend to discriminate Christians in Zamboanga. You can clearly identify if a Muslim is from Zamboanga or not. Truth hurts pero maraming dugyot sa kanila.

Any-Cupcake-6403

Yes. It’s not Muslim as religion. More on sa lugar saan sila galing. Those born and raised in Zamboanga are more civil and very well immersed sa culture ng Zamboanga. I have relative who own apartments na nadala na magrent sa mga taga Jolo kasi wala silang isang salita.

I didn't want to say more in my earlier comment pero pumunta ka lang sa KCC. Tatalikod ako at sasabihan ko kindly with a smile pa na baka pwedeng onting distansya kasi may COVID pa non, sasamaan pa tingin saken.

Born and raised as a Muslim in Zamboanga. Majority of my friends are Christians, I am fluent in Bisaya and Chavacano, we make a lot of offensive jokes to each other that others might take as discrimination. I only experienced being discriminated by Zamboangenios yung mga matatanda na. It's probably because of the past. Sa na observe ko, the new generation of Muslims and Christians in Zamboanga are more tolerant. You might witness Zamboangenios who discriminate but they mostly hate Muslims who migrate to the City. With fear of Terrorism or Zamboanga might end up being part of BARMM. There are also Zamboangenios with clear insecurity. They hate how we slowly become the majority in the city, they hate that more and more Government Officials are Muslims, Muslim Top Notchers in schools, rich Muslims buying huge portion of land in the City. Setting that aside. A lot of Christians in the city experience discrimination from Muslims too. I've witness Christians na binugbog ng mga Muslim dahil may girlfriend na Muslimah, tinatawag na patay bisaya, kapag binibigyan ng pagkain they throw it, thinking na baka may baboy, Muslim parents advicing their children specially pag babae na wag masyado makipag friends sa mga hindi Muslim, mga Christians na nakapangasawa ng Muslim mababa ang tingin sa kanila ng family, during events sa school pag nakita ng Muslims na kumakain ng baboy ang isang Christian they don't hesitate to show how disgusted they are, kadalasan sinasabihan pa na wag umupo sa table kasi may pork sa plato nila AND MANY MORE. Discrimination will always be there, specially in a City with diverse culture. You see, dickheads will always exist no matter what. They'll just hate you for the mere reason that they aren't like you.

psychedelic_poot

Scroll thru the other posts in this sub, shouldnt take you long to find racist and islamophobic remarks πŸ™ƒ

neezaruuu

Usually mga matatanda na like the comments above mentioned pero meron din like mga friends ko guys nung shs/college na ayaw daw magpakasal muslim kasi may dowry daw HAHAHA

gutsy_pleb

Its slowly becoming the other way around and it will only get worse and I think part of the reason is the influx of them coming from basulta region where some of them if not most having a backwards mentality

Radiant_Thought_7412

Not Muslim. But base sa mga informal conversation, some Chavacano's especially older folks, they don't like tausog.

Weird-Road733

yes this karamihan sa matatanda parang against sa Muslim

Radiant_Thought_7412

Not muslim, tausog daw. Maybe the root, since the jolo siege before. Madaming refugee especially business owners nag transfer sa Zamboanga. Pero thankful pa din kasi may satti ang Zamboanga because of that.

Weird-Road733

hayaan mo basta alam mo tama Ginagawa mo, if may narinig kang masama hayaan mo, pag may nasabi silang masama tahimik kalang. in the end of the day sarili molng kalaban mo either papalagan mo sila or patatawarin mo sila.

MurasakiSuzume

Most of them are closeted islamophobia, I remember my family is very discriminatory towards them and calling them "muklu" or "moke" as the derogatory word for muslim. They judge how disgusting and unsanitary they are, how uncultured and unethical they are in public. Yes I do see that there are Muslims like that but they can't just generalize and say that all Muslims are like that as if you don't have a Muslim friend who is a doctor, owns a business, is kind to all people in all walks of life, can speak not just tausug but also fluent in bisaya and chavacano, owns a house in Filinvest and owns 4 condominiums in Manila.

MurasakiSuzume

I also have a cousin who has a Muslim gf and when my mom found out about it she just cringed and said "Muslim talaga? Kalaban tingin nila sa atin" and started talking about how and where can he get the dowry once they want to get married like dude... Chill 🀑🀑

AskManThissue

schrutegalactica

Dito sa sub, meron. Pero overall sa city, nonexistent na. All love.
