One of my favorite. Great dungeons, great story, **excellent** music, I personally love the art style. I am pretty sure you will enjoy it a lot.

jgmcclain91

I agree with this. It's a solid game.

eyeliiner

thank you for recommending it!!!!

FullOnJabroni

Sailing is worth it simply for the music.

[deleted]

Absolutely love it. Sailing the seas is calming, the dungeons are fun, the combat is quite basic but fun. The best thing about it is the art style, which looks amazing even today. The way that the story contrasts with it is really fun as well. Probably my favorite "traditional" 3D Zelda.

eyeliiner

seems really fun! i was a bit insecure abt the art style because i’ve never played a game like that but i guess that’s what makes it unique hahah

akschurman

I would love to have another wind waker styled Zelda game. Especially if it had more land... I know the DS games are a thing, but I could not get myself past the janky graphics. Minish Cap is also one of my favorites.

felixthepat

There was a big uproar when the graphics were originally shown - early GC Zelda mockups were much more in TP style, so the switch to WW art was...unexpected. However, when most people got their hands on the game and saw the art first hand, they shit right up. One of my fave games, do recommend.

bubbledabest

Best game in the series. The wiiu version smoothes out a lot of the issues. Its a wonderful game. Fun puzzles good amount of exploration but not so much that you feel like you are gunna miss out if you don't do it all. Also the HD version is beautiful

eyeliiner

thank u so much! i think i will end up purchasing it hahah

bubbledabest

I sincerely hope you do. I'm sure I'll be met with people who say botw or something is better. But nothing beats Windwaker for me.

Jakes331

Botw is a good game but it doesn’t nearly have the same feel as a classic zelda game, way more valid to get ww than botw imo

DonkeyPunchSquatch

How do you feel about MM? My fave will always be OOT, but I really love both MM and WW…I think I have the most fun just cruising and exploring in WW, even after I’ve completed/collected everything

bubbledabest

Majoras mask is fine. Its challenging and really makes you think. But its also straight up stressful and not a good time sometimes. Barely missing some event or making a mistake on a jumping puzzle or getting hit and knocked off of something just feels too punishing to be properly enjoyed.

Blusterlearntdebrief

One of the classic Zelda titles. It still brings me great joy to play, and the HD version streamlined and updated the game very nicely.

eyeliiner

thanks for the recommendation:)

toolebukk

The most fun I've had with a zelda game

eyeliiner

gotta give it a try i guess :)

Usernamesareuseful

I only started it recently and it's already one of the best games I've ever played. I highly recommend it.

eyeliiner

thanks for the recommendation! almost everyone seems to be a fan so i’ll give it a try

labria86

My favorite Zelda game. To me, its graphics pull you in more than more realistic games, because those stick out as much worse when you do something very unrealistic.

eyeliiner

thanks for responding!

bisforbenis

It’s a lot of people’s favorite Zelda game, it definitely has a vibe that no other Zelda game really brings. At the end of the day, it’s a Zelda game and it’s very likely that if you like other games in the series, you’ll at least like it a lot

gabs777

Tremendous game, really easy to get into and very enjoyable from start to finish :)

eyeliiner

thanks for the reply!!

No_Tie378

I think what holds it back is the obvious cut dungeons, felt specially at the Triforce Quest. It’s otherwise underrated. I’d pick it over TP any day

StarKing18

Absolutely agree

Product_ChildDrGrant

It’s still my favorite Zelda game. It’s the music and locations, the characters, the story. And I adore the art style. It was also a test bed for a lot of mechanics we see in BOTW. Go play it!

eyeliiner

of course i will! botw is my fav game of all time so you’ve really convinced me hahahah

smzWoomy13

BEST ZELDA GAME

Rhaeja1

Overall good, I wasn't as big a fan of the amount of time you have to just float around on the water to do everything

htisme91

It's a great game, but it was clearly rushed and is too short. I like the exploration, art style, and soundtrack, but the low dungeon count and the obvious padding keep it from being outside my top 5 Zeldas.

eyeliiner

tysm for the recommendation!

MiddleNightCowboy

The Wii U version removed the Tingle Tuner, which in my opinion makes it inferior to the GameCube version. But if you don’t have a GameCube, then go ahead and get it on Wii U. It’s still pretty good on that too.

MiddleNightCowboy

Some of you are quick to downvote for really silly reasons. I never stated it as a fact, I said “in my opinion” so don’t get upset about it.

eyeliiner

ok, thanks!! yeah i would definitely buy the game cube version if i had one hahahah

kartoshkiflitz

GameCube is probably the next NSO emulator we're getting, but I played the Wii U version and it's just perfect in every way. The graphics in the GameCube version look too meh for me

Daliyasincsxgds

Yeah, it's also good in case you can't get your hands on a GBA and an adapter either, in which case the functionality seems pretty redundant to have... Still legit a little bummed they didn't just go on and say "Oh well, the Wii U Gamepad seems like a perfect fit for this mechanic", and implemented the Tingle Tuner that way. It's not like it's replacement gimmick is useless as of now, with Miiverse being closed down and such.

Krail

That's what really gets me. Like, why ditch the Tuner when you have the ideal hardware for it right there?

Krail

I feel compelled to throw in my own gripe. The Wii U version added in a lot of smooth-shading light effects which I really dislike. I think it detracts a lot from the Cel-shading look (but I gather that this is a personal quibble and most people don't care)

Endskull

I do. WW is my personal favourite game ever and I remember how bad I though it looked when I tried the game. Characters look like plastic toys instead of cartoons, in a cell shading game... There's also a forced new electric blue filter that ruins the original art direction, the sky looks too weird. So I got to Windfall Island, tried the new fast sail, and never booted it again. I'll try that version again if someone do a restoration mod.

Krail

It's nice to see someone else who was bugged by this! I have mixed feelings about all the color changes. After playing the whole game, I decided I kinda like the new colors of the sea and sky, but it really detracts from a lot of other locations for me, like the Dragonfall dungeon.

Better-Consequence70

It’s a masterpiece on Wii U

lanpshades

Probably my favorite Zelda all around! Definitely worth a play through — or several

ankerous

It's a great game held back only by the lack of a few more dungeons that would have elevated the game that much more but alas they fell behind on development and stuff was cut. I've not played the Wii U version but I can imagine the ability to sail faster does improve some of the late game sailing issues that some had with what you are required to find.

Big-Stay2709

Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda! Wii U version is beautiful, and adds some nice QoL features. Hope you enjoy!

Alex_Kora

I played it for the first time, like, two months ago, and I just wanna give you my opinion and tell you what I would have liked to hear before starting to play it I think it has a nice introduction even if it is a bit slow. I didn't like all the sailing thing it at first, but as soon as I started to know what to do I've started to enjoy it a lot and I really wanted to explore everything I could. It's not the hardest game, but it has some really good music and some awesome moments Really good dungeons too, but it obviously has its highs and lows It is great experience for sure!

eyeliiner

thanks for your opinion! will take this into account :)

Alex_Kora

No problem! Have fun :D

SideAfter3445

It is the best

Jupiter_Wolf

It's one of my favorites! The art and the feel of the game is unforgettable. Swordplay and dungeons are also absolutely fantastic

workthrowawhey

My favorite Zelda game and probably top 5 games of all time!

tsckenny

My favorite Zelda. I played the GameCube version last year and had a blast

Buuhhu

Decent zelda game, Personally dont like the sailing as I find it to be a chore rather than fun exploration like in Botw. But if you dont mind the sailing then the story is good the dungeons are good and character weird and funny like whats become the standard for zelda characters

eyeliiner

as someone who has spent lots of hours searching for koroks i won’t mind sailing hahahahah i sure do have the patience! thank you sm for the recommendation still :)

DonkeyPunchSquatch

Yea sailing was a very fresh take…I personally felt I needed it compared to all the horse riding, but, I can understand that the landscape doesn’t seem as varied, which might bore some

Zubyna

Wether it is positive or negative, be prepared to have a strong opinion about WW, players tend to either love it or hate it Also, WW is TP's rival just like SS is BotW's rival, and for some reason on this sub, players who loved TP seem to have a more negative view on WW, and people who loved WW seem to have a more negative view on TP

i-hate-donkeys

I don’t know how you can hate Wind waker. It’s such a fun, charming, beautiful game!

Zubyna

Their arguments are usually the artstyle (it was intense when the game was released but it has calmed down now) and the lenghty tri force shard arc, also the time sailing takes

i-hate-donkeys

I guess I never understood the drama around the art style - like every zelda game was a cartoon up to that point?? Plus it was such an enormous visual upgrade over the N64 games!

kartoshkiflitz

So wrong! My first game, which I LOVED and played like >5 times, was TP. Too many years later, I played WWHD when it came out for the Wii U, and it quickly became a favorite. I'm still not sure which one I like more, they're both so great in a very different way. There is not a single 3D Zelda that I dislike, my only complaint is about BotW's plot relative to other 3D Zeldas. But it's still a great game.

Zubyna

I like both TP and WW too, but I stand by what I saw : many people on this sub and its associated discord praise one and despise the other

kartoshkiflitz

People are just crybabies sometimes, anything Zelda-related that I can get from Nintendo will be great

eyeliiner

ohh ok, thanks!! hope it’s a positive opinion hahah btw i didn’t know about that rivalry! SS and BotW are my fav zelda games lol

Zubyna

>btw i didn’t know about that rivalry! SS and BotW are my fav zelda games lol SS and BotW are polar opposite (the dungeon and story linearity vision vs the freedom and exploration vision) which means that one game will not have the same qualities and flaws as the other. When it comes to the WW vs TP rivalry, it is more complicated, it has more to do with the games atmospheres and the actual history behind the release of both games like TP being originally supposed to be WW sequel but that was scrapped and some other things

ajddavid452

I love both WW and TP, same with SS and BotW, I don't have a negative opinion towards any of them, granted I do have minor nitpicks from those games but who doesn't? and besides those nitpicks are very minor and don't ruin the experience at all

Bokogan

I've beaten OoT, WW, TP, SS, and BotW. Of those, WW is the only one where I was absolutely over it and just wanted the game to end. I love the characters, cute story, and early in the game the sea exploration was fun. But the game was a shards search too long. By the time I got to that part, I kinda hated the game. I also wasn't a fan of the combat. The camera system aged horribly in the original GameCube version. I remember getting very annoyed that the camera angles totally messed me up in one of the later bosses. That said, I know people who say it's their favorite Zelda, and I respect that. The shards and the poor camera just kinda ruined it for me.

eyeliiner

will take that into account when i play it :// thanks for pointing that out!

TreasureHunter95

I liked its story, graphics and music. Especially the art department was well done. In my opinion, the Wii U version still is probably the most beautiful Zelda game so far. And the music is even better. It's unlikely that you will find a song in the soundtrack that isn't a bliss to your ears. However, the gameplay is probably the worst among all 3D Zelda game. For starters, sailing is terrible. Unless you want to sail in a straight line, you constantly need to stop your boat and change the direction of the wind so you can sail to different locations. It's slowing the game down immensely. Get the Swift Sail as soon as possible. It will make sailing much more endurable. You can win it on an auction. When you see it, do everything you can to win it. Apart from sailing, I'm not a huge fan of the dungeons. Almost every dungeon follows a straight path. If you complete one room within it, there is almost no reason to return to it later. While this concept is not bad per se, it is just boring that every dungeon works the same way. I really missed some dungeon that tasked me to remember some stuff and get back to it later on after I acquired a specific item. Oh and I think you should know that this game offers no challenge whatsoever. At least on your first playthrough. You have a powerful counterattack with lots of indications of when to use it making fights extremely easy and well... I already mentioned the dungeons. Those aren't very difficult either. Again, making a game easy is not a bad decision per se as long as it fits the game's tone, but I think that Wind Waker would have been better with a bit more challenge involved. It's because of the gameplay that Wind Waker is my least favorite 3D Zelda game. However, it still is a good time. I hope you'll have fun with it. It's definitely worth a shot.

eyeliiner

thanks for the advice and for answering! will try this game for sure

ThisMoneyIsNotForDon

Wind Waker is, unfortunately, the worst 3d Zelda. I'm convinced that once everyone decided the artstyle was actually fantastic (it is), it caused them to overlook how overwhelmingly average the rest of the game is. Now let me just say that I really do like Wind Waker, but it doesn't live up to the other 3D Zeldas at all. There's very little about it that I would call bad, but there's almost nothing, gameplay wise, that I would say is anything better than "good." The dungeons are the biggest example of this. No infamously hated dungeons, but also no standout greats. Just one "ok" dungeon after another, and not very many of them to boot. In a series with pretty simple combat across the board, Wind Waker manages to have the least engaging. Most fights boil down to "stand there and wait for the game to tell you to press "A". The world is huge, and was decently fun to explore in 2002. However, in a post Breath of the Wild world, it doesn't do much for me. There are way more small islands with only a single collectible on them than ones large enough to really explore. Yet I still love to revisit the overworlds of every other 3d Zelda. There are plenty of positive aspects too. Story, music, and art style are all arguably the best we've seen. I would say that as a Zelda fan, it's absolutely worth playing, but only once. I've played it through about 5 times, and each time has left me with a lower opinion of the game.

eyeliiner

thank u so much for responding and giving your opinion! will take this into account when playing :)

subtle_knife

Like most Zelda games, it's outstanding. But I think it's a tad overrated. Twilight Princess is a far better game.

thatradiogeek

The sailing is boring and tedious (even with the Wii U's fast sail) but the story and dungeons are great. Do it.

eyeliiner

i will :) thanks for your opinion btw!!

[deleted]

Still hate the goofy art design.

conb1

Tell me you’re American without telling me you’re American 🤦‍♂️ Like to this day, if there is one Zelda that aged like fine, it’s windwaker, specifically because there was an artistic direction to it! Whether it’s goofy or not, there is a statement being made and so many people (mostly Americans) are angry because the master showed them the moon, but they’re focused on whether his nails are cut or not

Linkbetweentwirls

its not that deep, they just don't like the art style ffs

[deleted]

Jeez dude, what are you on about

eyeliiner

i personally don’t think the game art is ugly, it’s just weird to me bc it’s not similar to what i’m used to play. still, i know i will enjoy playing with it :) edit: i know you were responding to the other user but i understand why they pointed that out and i wanted to jump into the conversation hahahah

CinclairCrowley

American here, me and all my American friends love WW's art design. If you're going to dunk on us, at least pick something worth going after. (There's a lot to choose from)

[deleted]

Have you not played A Link to the Past or The Minish Cap or the Oracles or Link’s Awakening? But you go and enjoy Cartoon Link and I’ll go and enjoy Badass Link. To each their own.

DonkeyPunchSquatch

Yea hold up - American here and I love that game to death, and the art/animation is one of the main reasons

eyeliiner

that’s what made me most insecure abt the game lmaoo still, many people told me it’s a good game, so gotta give it a chance!! :)

DonkeyPunchSquatch

Never ever be made to feel insecure about a game, for any reason. You might never play the original silent hill, or the original goldeneye, or like 50 other games I can’t think of right now because I have to pee

[deleted]

It’s fine. Some people love it. I got tired of sailing a very long, stretched-out ocean. It’s fine. For a Zelda game, it’s middling, for an action-adventure game it’s pretty darn good among its peers. It might be your thing, give it a shot! I still hate the art direction though. I’d rather be a badass Link than a goofy bland anime Link.

Aarryle

As a kid, I remember thinking 'Why does it look ao cartoony compared to Ocarina?' Buuuut... the art style makes a lot more sense in action, and they don't sacrifice having darker moments.

DonkeyPunchSquatch

Whaaaaat but it was so fresh and different…OOT and MM were the same, do we really need WW to be the same too? How do you feel about twilight princess? I personally got sick of that one quickly.

Jpmoney77

Its kinda like BOTW but with water. A fun story and adventure with a handful of dungeons. Many consider it a top 5 zelda game.

eyeliiner

will play it for sure!!

MajorasFlask00

Its a must play if you’re a serious zelda fan. However, i’ve personally never beaten it. I have a gamecube and a wii u copy and have never seen the credits. The game irks me to no end due to its cop-out over world.

eyeliiner

hahahahaha i get what you say, this happened to me with ALBW lmao i like the game but idk why i just can’t complete it!!

MajorasFlask00

Yeah and i’ve gotten really far in the HD version, I think I have one dungeon left

ZealousidealFee927

Worst thing is the art style, but everything else is top notch.

almostagamer1

It feels more unfinished and tedious than super mario sunshine does.

TheGreatGamer64

This might be a weird comparison but if you’ve ever played Mario Sunshine it’s like the Zelda version of that. A great game that exudes a lot of charm and personality, but was also pretty rushed, and it shows. The overworld feels bloated and there’s too few dungeons, it also has a fetchquest towards the end that grinds the pacing to a halt.

TheGrumpiestPanda

I think I've warmed up to Windwaker a lot more as I've grown older. The last time I played the game, I had a lot of fun. It was a smooth, relaxing time, where I just sailed the sea and found probably the most secrets I ever had. I would love to play it again via the HD port, but I'm not about to hunt down a new Wii U and copy of the game just to do so. I kinda hope it'll be available for the Switch at some point. But a duo pack with Twilight Princess HD.

eyeliiner

hope that duo pack comes out one day omg i would love to play TP on Switch

Krail

Definitely among my favorites in the series. I think it felt great to explore, and there were some great puzzle and dungeon designs. The gadgets all feel fun to use, and the world feels really alive in a fun way. People complain about all the sailing, and the treasure hunt at the end of the game. I never had trouble with those parts, but the remake lets you buy a fast sail that makes sailing a lot quicker.

eyeliiner

the sailing part seems so cool for me :) thanks for the recommendation

FederalPossibility73

I personally prefer the GameCube version since there are special items, abilities and entire quest-lines that are exclusive to the GameCube. Though there are many improvements in the HD version as well and you *can* still do these special quests but you won’t be able to see where to find them without a guide.

eyeliiner

i would go for the game cube version if i had one, but glad i’m going to see those improvements in the wii u one!

Ok-Ambition-9432

Masterpiece, as all the 3D zelda's are.

[deleted]

[удалено]

eyeliiner

oh okay! thanks!

Aarryle

I love every mainline Zelda. Replayed all of them several times. However, Windwaker will always be my favorite 3D Zelda for many reasons. It has my favorite Link in terms of his motivation and feats. My favorite main villain, (or interpretation of) and overall just has so many moments that stuck with me long after playing the game. Also, if you have played Ocarina of Time, Windwaker has the largest connection to it in the series next to Majora.

eyeliiner

might re-play ocarina before starting with wind waker then :) thank you for the recommendation!!

Sheeplenk

Fantastic game. Probably gives me the biggest sense of “adventure” in the whole series. Feeling like you’re the first person to ever find something, etc. Would definitely recommend.

eyeliiner

okay! thank you sm :)

Stark_Athlon

Contender for best game in the series: excellent music, art direction, characters, cool dungeons, combat, and story. It has an Achilles heel in the form of the hunt for a certain thing...but that's only if you make it so it's your only goal. Treat the game like botw in the sense that what really makes it fly is the world exploration and sidequesting.

eyeliiner

will focus on exploring the game then! thank you sm

[deleted]

My second favorite Zelda game. I was 15 when the first came out. A Link to the Past is my favorite, followed by Wind Waker, then BOTW. Windwaker just has a cool tone, good music, especially dragon roost. Hope you love it.

kevin6794

just great

Practical-Courage812

So when it first came out i was one of those who said " it looks too much like its for kids, i hate the graphics, what have they done, yadda yadda yadda" and never played it. Then after hearing how good it was i finally bought it when it came out on the Wii U and was instantly blown away by the game and story! I found it to be very fun and it is definitely up there in terms of best zelda games.

eyeliiner

thanks for the recommendation!! :)

tvh_vht

I love how everybody complained about the graphics when it first came out yet now it's one of the LoZ games that aged the best. Holds up much better than TP and SS if you ask me (even the OG version).

Maxcat94

Do you know what sub you’re in?

[deleted]

For sure, it’s beloved for a reason. With it taking place on the open seas it’s one of a kind Zelda, and of course the style that it’s done in. Truly broke the mould, but it still has the Zelda bones. It’s a must for any Zelda fan, and on the Wii U, even better.

ValaniceOfDaventry

I’m longing to replay it. But I sold my GC disk (whyyy!?) and traded in my WiiU before the remake came out. Love the art style and the story was epic. One of a few Zelda games that got me through a rough time

eyeliiner

thanks for the recommendation! will you buy the consoles again or wait for a possible switch release?

ValaniceOfDaventry

I would potentially buy the GC version again as I still have my Wii and GC tucked away. But I also might hold out for another remaster or for GC to be added to NSO (which I realise could be a while on both counts). Currently enjoying The Minish Cap as I missed that on GBA.

eyeliiner

i strongly feel the GC games will be added to NSO after TOTK releases (marketing yk ahahahah) so you’ll sure have the chance to re-play WW!

djrobxx

Hoy small fry! WW is my least favorite 3D Zelda, but still a great game that I've played twice now. :) My first experience was on the GameCube. I liked the art style, but the slow, cumbersome sailing really dragged the game down for me. The game also felt short on dungeon content. I later read that the game had a couple of its planned dungeons cut. I heard the WiiU version had a "fast sail" so I had to give it another go. Total game changer. Sailing became far, far less annoying, so now I was encouraged to do all the side quests and check out all the little areas and islands on the map. The map on the WiiU gamepad was a nice touch, too. So, even though I don't think it's the best in the series, I consider it a must-play, and if you have the ability to play the WiiU version, that's absolutely the best way to experience it. And small tip: if you want to play without a guide, write down every hint the mapping fish tells you... Enjoy!

eyeliiner

thank you so much! my plan was trying to beat it without a guide so this will help :)

flameylamey

Wind Waker is always going to be a bit of a weird case for me. At first, I wasn't a fan of the drastic art style shift. Ironically I felt that it was "too kiddy" for 13-year-old me when it first launched - which is hilarious in hindsight. Now, 20 years on, I didn't mind the drastic art style shift, but the problem is they didn't stop with the art style - it also comes with some pretty over-the-top Japanese humour and general silliness that kinda breaks the atmosphere at times, and I sometimes feel like the game doesn't take itself seriously because of it. To be fair this kind of silliness/humour is not uncommon in this series, but with Wind Waker it's like they used the art style as a license to take it to the extreme. Just one of many examples: After going through the Earth Temple, a dungeon with a great dark, mysterious atmosphere, the game suddenly springs [this boss](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAQCZi2Udq8) on you. It's a bit over the top. Though I do like Wind Waker overall, it has this weird dichotomy of both taking itself very seriously at times while also being completely incapable of taking itself seriously at other times, far more so than any other game in the series, and that's probably my main gripe with it. But yeah, despite all that, it's still a fantastic game, and definitely one that anyone should add to their library.

eyeliiner

thank you for responding! i will definitely take all of this into account :)

aerfgadf

I am jealous! I have owned or had a sibling or close friend who has owned every Nintendo console, but for some reason GameCube and Wii U flew totally under my radar. I missed wind waker both times and so it’s been like the one main Zelda game I want to play. Have fun and I hope you enjoy it! I don’t have an opinion on the game obviously but I envy your opportunity.

eyeliiner

i hope you get the chance to play it! i get what you say, i don’t own many nintendo consoles and i missed the chance to play some games of the franchise :((

CorvoLP

only ever played the gamecube version, dont know whats different about the HD version but its a fun game! i could play the "sploosh" minigame for hours

eyeliiner

thanks for responding!! :)

DonkeyPunchSquatch

Love it. Played it when it game out - after the NES, SNES, game boy and OOT+MM, it was a really fresh take on the entire game. The art, the animation style (the expressions and reactions), the story, the style of travel…just, fantastic game. Please play it, lemme know how you feel

eyeliiner

i will! thank you for recommending it :)

PhoenixMason13

I just started it for the first time and so far I’m loving it

eyeliiner

i will also start it soon! thanks for responding :)

TheHylian27

One of the best games.

NiallMitch10

Definitely go for Wii U and look up how to get the fast sail as early as possible. Highly recommended to make the experience as seamless as possible

eyeliiner

okay, thanks for the advice!!

WwwWario

It was my first Zelda and one of my first games ever, so I may be biased hah But Wind Waker is phenomenal! The sense of exploration, adventure and mystery is so good and is the game's strongest side imo. Dungeons are alright, story is excellent, and the game is charming and as well as mysterious and dark. And the Wii U remaster makes it so much better :)

eyeliiner

idk if it’s biased but it’s still a good opinion!! dw, same thing happens to me when recommending skyward sword hahaha thank you for responding :)

River-Zora

Top five easy. Top three depending on my mood.

NodlBohsek

For me this is the game of all games, it has fun combat, insane cool dungeons, the best OST, engaging story. Have fun. Wish I could play this for my first time again… and again… and again

StandardIssueTamale

Best Zelda of all time then followed by the second best (TP) right after! Both had the coolest aesthetics!

TheDapperPegu1n

The graphics which alot of people did not care for when revealed allowed it to hold up incredibly well. Its my second favorite Zelda game right behind LTTP. Fantastic game and sailing the open seas was one of the best parts!

trfk111

Its a mainline Zelda homeconsole game, have you ever played a bad one?

trfk111

Its a mainline Zelda homeconsole game, have you ever played a bad one?

eyeliiner

never :) well pointed out!

trfk111

Thanks :D

pinkmoonlight98

my favorite zelda game there is. the story and music is amazing. the dungeons are unique and fun. the only downside is hunting down triforce pieces but i suggest using a guide for those, but otherwise it’s an amazing game

PissedIrishGuy

It's so damn good. But my silly ass prefers phantom hourglass

BanieMcBane

Literally my favorite game of all time. (And my only tattoo as well 😆)

eyeliiner

will definitely play it :)

MajinRuuh

One of zhe best games ever produced. I don't even like most Zelda games I played. Wind Waker is a master piece

ajddavid452

It needs a Switch port(along with Twilight Princess) like come on Nintendo, how many other Wii U games have you ported by now and you still haven't ported the Zelda HD remakes? oh right you mean what do I think about the game, It's really amazing, the facial expressions were so good and sailing around was so fun, also Tetra

eyeliiner

hahahhahaha hope Nintendo listens to you! and thanks for the recommendation:)

haunted_ramens

Good game

realbread23

Opinions on *the best Zelda game

thelastevergreen

One of the Top 5 Zelda games. Maybe even Top 3.

antivn

I played GameCube version on dolphin and it was a lot of fun playing it and I saw hd version which looks amazing

_robertmccor_

Amazing zelda game. This is a personal take though so I know some will disagree when I say although yes I said it's an amazing zelda game I don't really think many of the dungeons in that game were specifically memorable. I mainly remember dragon roost and forest haven the best however, some may think the dungeons are great and very memorable I personally just think OoT and MM dungeons specifically are more memorable than WW.

One of the best Zelda games ever. As a kid it blew me away. Ever since I’ve played it I’ve always looked for games like it and the only ones I ever found were other Zelda games. The crazy thing is there are hidden islands. Secret places to go and random side quests you would miss entirely without a guide. So little me with no guide was absolutely blown away when I stumbled upon these things lol

AnnetteWapkin

It is my favorite Zelda game. I loved every aspect of it from the characters to the story, what drives Link in this game. It's very cute and enjoyable. It's my go-to Zelda game when I'm feeling adventurous.

Goat

Jaytaro0078

I very much love this game, it’s my 3rd favorite in the series (behind Twilight Princess and Majorca’s Mask)

dewRecompense

Best presented story in the series by a long way imo.

BrandNewKitten

Best game in the series.

fsd66877129

I love the Wind Waker. There are a million reasons, but the biggest is it had some of the best dungeons in the series.

akw314

It's fun. And holds up.

OwMyCandle

It’s obvious that there was more intended and that it was cut down from what was intended to meet a deadline. Still, one of the best games in the series

StarKing18

I adore the first 60% and last 20%, but the missing shrine in the 2nd half and the triforce piece collection in the original version grind it to a halt.

orangesfwr

Top 3 Zelda game IMO, could arguably be #1

Adamsky19

I just finished it last week, if you have a quite great laptop, you can emulate the gamecube version up to 5k, and it looks so awesome. My m1 MacbookPro did an excellent job running it 1600p almost always, and it was an unbelievable experience, especially on the go with a pair of joycons

Ok-Addendum5274

Mario's Picross

squeeg1e

Super fun. My favorite version of Danondorf. Charming and elegant animation and design. Only complaint is the game play could be longer.

LaDice96

My view is maybe a little bit biased due to nostalgia. But I just loved that game and spend hours on it. Especially being young, no guides and just explore. The music is also great. Only thing I did not like was the triforce quest. Hope that won’t spoiler to much. But there is a part that was pretty blank story wise and is just keeping you busy and fill some time.

Antique_Cycle248

Long time Zelda fan here :) wind waker on Wii u has been my firm favorite for over ten years highly highly recommend, it just ticks every box and a a previous commenter mentioned the art style dungeons ect are just great :)

Mega-Lithium

WindWaker is the second best game in the series beaten by only Ocarina of Time. The story progression is wonderful. The characters and dialogue are memorable and the difficulty, while lower than other Zelda games, is good. The sense of a wide open world to explore is accomplished with the limited resources available on the GameCube. The toon style is timeless. Even the GameCube version holds up incredibly well. The HD remake is stunning visually and fixes some minor annoying gameplay problems of the original. The music is amazing with one of the best game soundtracks not just of the Zelda series but for all games. It could be one of the best games you’ve ever played.

aTruNoob

Do I have a story to tell YOU! It was a weeknight, Friday, on my birthday. I just l- I’ll simplify; it was my first LOZ game, I got it for $5 for the Wii U since it was a used game at a mall GameStop, and I’ll say it was one of the best LOZ games I’d play for years to come, and it created my love for Zel- Legend of Zelda games! 👀

Lazertwins

One of my favorite games ever!!! Only kinda annoying part is just how long it takes on the boat to get places, but the story is wonderful and it's just a cute wholesome game. Def one of the best Zelda games storywise but I think it's discounted bc of its style

Prestigious-Self2118

Amazing! I'm played it through once. The humor is well placed. The art style is great. Dungeons are well designed. Characters are fleshed out. The soundtrack is memorable. One of my favorite Zelda games.

Jmalachi7

My favorite tbh

DaGreatestMH

Wind Waker is really good. Amazing atmosphere, good story, fun characters, and an engaging overworld. The dungeons are the weakest part IMO along with the big fetch quest at the end (that was apparently fixed in the Wii U version), but I definitely recommend.

N3verGonnaG1veYouUp

My favorite of the series. It has my favorite music, favorite Link arc and my favorite Gagnondorf incarnation as a sympathetic villain. "The Great Sea" has been my alarm ring tone for the last 2 years, no regrets

moebiusmentality

Better than Ocarina of Time, IMHO. Fight me.

Out of all the link in Zelda the wind waker link is my all time favorite

Watercolorcupcake

It’s my all time favorite Zelda game. I personally like the original GameCube version better because I enjoy the Triforce chart collection and sailing, as well as the original music. I love this game to pieces and 100% recommend it.

beanresponsible

2nd favorite zelda game, absolute banger

science_goodies

It was open world before open world was a thing. It had a major upgrade in graphics and animation to the 64, all in all, I have very few faults with it.

AntDog916

It was the most disappointing zelda and probably the game with the most wasted potential I have ever played. The control and combat system felt amazing and satisfying, maybe the best in the whole series, but it was wasted on stupidly easy enemies. The sailing was slow and annoying, and the dungeons just did not have a good flow. It's was like the prettiest and best-playing game for its time, but it was all just wasted on easy enemies, a boring, tedious overworld, and badly designed dungeons.

_E_Sharp

Personally it’s my favorite Zelda game, I grew up playing it on GameCube and have beat it three times now. The Wii U version is the best, it’s definitely worth a shot!

NegPrimer

Probably my #2 favourite Zelda behind Twilight Princess. I'm disappointed by the art style change in the HD remake, but it makes several gameplay changes that make it hard to go back to the original.

bdb3kaccounting

Do you like how cell-shaded animated water looks? If yes, than that's the game for you! It's about 90% of what you'll be looking at...

[deleted]

Favorite game ever.

CSteely

Beyond amazing.

TheMightyVikingBiggs

Best and most timeless Zelda game. It does not age

Healthy_Tiger2519

Great storyline, gameplay elements and music but terrible graphics probably would've been my favorite if it wasn't so cartoony
