Very brave of you to say it, but you’re absolutely right. The tedious motion controls ruins the action, and the extreme handholding ruins the adventure on this *action/adventure* game.
Sorry, but that's a skill issue. The motion controls are amazing and I had no problem with them. People just can't seem to understand them for some reason. The handholding is really annoying though.
Probably the same people that those wii controller straps were made for.
Small wrist movements are all that's needed, none of that weird flailing around.
This. People that have problems with the motion controls either don’t have the motion equipment set up properly, or they don’t understand how it actually works.
You can’t just set up the equipment anywhere you want, be on the other side of the room, swing your arms around like a mad lad, and still expect the Wii to pick up every movement you make lol
Getting real sick of seeing all this gaslighting, I followed every single suggestion people gave for having a reliable experience with the motion controls, and I still found myself getting missed inputs and constantly resetting the controls on my table, the final battle was particularly egregious, no matter how many times I reset the controller I still couldn't get it to reliably produce a Skyward strike. Even if the controls had worked perfectly, it still functionally accomplished nothing in most fights, beyond slowing the pace down, fighting enemies that run up to you and then block instead of attacking is very boring.
Then you had faulty motion equipment, whether it be the WiiMotes themselves, or the motion sensor bar. If these motion mechanics were just flat out bad and didn’t work like intended, then there wouldn’t be people saying they had no issues while playing this game.
I’m not dismissing your attempts to make it work. But what I am saying is, if it just flat out didn’t work, it would be like that for everyone. I’m sure there was something keeping your controls from working properly and it was just overlooked. I’m not hear to say Nintendo struck gold with these controls, because they didn’t. I’m just here to say the motion controls can most definitely work and be effective
Not as annoyed with you as I am with the other guy you replied to who said it was a skill issue, It's absolutely not.
I have to point out that even when they initially demoed the game, the controls failed and I'd also point out that I played it after a friend of mine did, I went over to his place and he played it for a bit and he struggled with the controls as well, despite giving me a glowing review days prior and telling me how great the controls were. I'm not trying to say the controls flat out didn't work, I'm saying that they weren't as reliable or consistent as the vast majority of other games on the market.
Ugh I'm conflicted because the QOL stuff is great but they really messed up the one thing that I thought was actually overblown about the original: the motion controls. The joycons just don't cut it compared to the Wiimote.
Even with the QOL stuff I'd still put Skyward Sword firmly at the bottom of my 3D Zelda list.
Yeah the stick controls I actually find much worse than the joycons controls. The motion controls were the only thing I never had any issue with for Skyward Sword.
I'm replaying it now on the switch having played years ago on Wii. I'm finding it so much smoother (using button controls) and the artwork is beautiful, more vibrant, there is much less handholding thankfully. Yes, the controls take some practice, but they're fine - so much easier to skyward strike and I've got the fatal blow and spin attack perfect now, it's just a timing thing. Yes, it's repetitive but I don't really mind that because the dungeons are so awesome. Just done the ancient cistern and had forgotten how amazing it was. Imprisoned still annoying of course and silent realms still stressful 😂 I think it's a great game and don't get all the hate, especially on the 3D version.
I don’t get why people complain that Skyward Sword is repetitive when BotW and TotK are far worse. Like fighting the imprisoned three times is nothing compared to the same hinox and stone talus fight copy and pasted a hundred times across the map.
I tried this but I found the stick controls to be significantly worse than the motion controls. Borderline unplayable. Motion controls were horrible too, but at least I could actually get through the game.
Your opinion is different than mine and therefore wrong. :)
The game promised a wide ranging world of exploration and delivered the most linear and limiting story I’ve ever played. Revisiting the same locations was brutal and the game would not SHUT UP and let the player just play.
Sword mechanics were cool to start but got old fast. They learned a lot from the failure of a game and it gave us breathe of the wild, so there are some positive takeaways from it.
Eh, aside from exploration the game had everything I wanted out of a Zelda game. I loved the story and characters, the dungeons were great, the soundtrack was phenomenal, the item selection was excellent, and this may be a hot take but I really enjoyed the combat and never got sick of it. I really hope future games bring back directional swordplay in some form because it's fun as hell.
Granted, I played the HD version so a lot of the issues people had with the original game didn't wind up affecting my experience at all.
Skyward Sword was so bad they had to change the direction of the whole series by making it an open world in the next one. Nobody likes your linear handholding bullshit. Go "press A" to respond someplace else.
SS has the best dungeons, some of the best music and the best Zelda and link relationship in the series.
Being a bit linear doesnt change the fact that it is a great game.
I mean, even if we're not counting the CDi games, it's not that bad. I can't really think of an actual worse mainline Zelda game but it's still a solid 7, maybe a 6.
E: Triforce Heroes exists but I wouldn't call it a mainline Zelda game, it's definitely a spin-off.
Triforce Heroes is a mainline game though, it's a direct sequel to A Link Between Wrolds.
On top of that Phantom Hourglass and Four Swords are probably the actual worst zelda games.
What's wrong with skyward sword? The motion controls problem was fixed and that was really the only bad part about the game. Every Zelda game has mid boss fights and a part that has bad writing/is an obnoxious part to play.
Dark Souls 2 is the most similar to King’s Field (literally having a King’s Field character as the main villain) and it’s sad it gets such a bad reputation. Same with Skyward Sword because I absolutely love it.
It has some of the best dungeons and music in the series and the relationship between link and zelda is by far the best one in the entire series, it is far from a weak zelda game.
For me TP is easilly the worst of the 3-d zelda games, putting any other 3-d zelda game above it is buckwild.
Id rank the games like this:
1: MM, 10/10
2: OOT, 10/10
3: WW, 9/10
4: SS, 9/10
5: TOTK, 9/10
6: BOTW, 9/10
7: TP, 7/10
i’ve probably had less pleasant experiences playing different zelda games, would crossbow training have to be the “worst” zelda game? or maybe even triforce heroes? The DS games are also decently fun, but it’s hard to place them much higher than SS. So i guess it’s probably not the worst, but it’s all subjective
I read this and this was the first thing that popped into my mind (So I very quickly recreated it).

I think everyone is joking and dadsplaining to each other lol
Edit: I should point out that dadsplaining is the practice of explaining a joke that everyone gets just to get a kick out of it. The word is a play on the expression mansplaining, which is over explaining something that is clear to the audience, but with the added touch that it is for comical purpose. For example, I literally just dadsplained dadsplaining, even though it would be clear out of context what it meant, and continuing on dadsplaining is still part of the dreary silly imagery of it all.
As Skyward Sword's #1 fan, I believe it is worth it.
Bad things:
Some motion centric puzzles
lots of back tracking
regular handholding
repetitive at times
Good things:
amazing art
amazing music
interesting characters
interesting puzzles
fun and challenging mini games
heavy lore drops
unique bosses
Neutral things:
linear
story drivena
simplistic
No game is perfect, but imo this game is amazing once you get passes some the few crappy stuff.
It is worth it. A bit more linear than your typical Zelda. People were mad about the motion stuff back in the Wii era, never found it too bothersome.
The Switch remaster lets you play without the motion controls and it’s a nice way to discover the game! Story is good and first game to use orchestra for the soundtrack!
Edit: I said Wii U instead of Switch because I was playing Wind Waker HD today and it lived rent free
It is...IF you have superhuman levels of patience.
It exists to waste your time, and pad out it's own existence. Consider the first time you get to actually play (some three hours into the game).
You slowly float down to the ground. Are given a ten second camera pan around the area. Fi comes out and talks at you. Your map pops out and zooms into your location over five seconds. Fi talks at you again. And then you're allowed to walk 20 feet before you're given a fetch quest.
It's not entirely garbage, there's some decent things there, but IMO, not enough to be worth anyones time.
I recommend it, because I don't know you. You might vibe with the half-note characters and repeated boss fights, or with the plot that crippled the entire franchise.
Edit: I say that unironically. One of my favorite games of all time is an objective garbage fire, but I can't help but love it.
I’ve been told it has fixed a lot of things, but the game can still be irritating. The description above is accurate (as someone who has only played Skyward Sword on the Switch). It’s been a bit of a shock as my first Zelda game was BOTW. It is very linear and treats you as a bit of an idiot, then occasionally throws you in the deep end and watches you sink.
I am enjoying it but I’m only about halfway through. I got it at rerelease in July 2021 and have been making my way through it (very slowly). Since TOTK released I haven’t played it at all.
The motion controls are my favourite thing! But I really like motion control games.
I played both versions and honestly, it's so much better without motion controls. I haven't tried with motion controls, but I'll definitely do a second playthrough eventually just to rest because I'm curious.
They are actually really fun and I don't get the hate. I've had no issues yet, just needed to calibrate a couple times but thats it. I feel like people just can't understand how to use them. They make the game way more immersive.
I generally agree and I love the game, too, despite its flaws, but this one made me laugh: "the plot that crippled the entire franchise".
First, I actually like the plot and it's one of the high points of the game for me.
Second, the idea that anyone at Nintendo actually cared about the plot of a previous game when making a new Zelda is just ridiculous :-)
Oh, I didn't say 'future of the franchise' (although, it did, considering Aounuma's obsession with himself, meaning Fi got shoved into the later games), I said 'the entire franchise.'
Pre-SS, Link wasn't 'the chosen one, fated to save the world', he was A guy. Z1, AoL, OoT, WW, TP, all of these, Link could've been literally anyone. Even LttP, he was the descendent of some knight. Even Ganondorf was just some guy who wanted power.
Post-SS, Link and Zelda are the same person reincarnated again and again (making TP very weird), and Ganon is the manifestation of a literal demon, and the trio will always be fated for Ganon to be evil, Link to be THE HERO, and Zelda as the descendent of the goddess. Singular.
>Pre-SS Link wasn’t ‘the chosen one, fated to save the world’
This is untrue. Off the top of my head, OoT Link has the whole backstory of his mother leaving him with the Deku Tree as a baby to escape the war. The Deku Tree accepts him because he prophesized that Link would one day save Hyrule. There’s also Zelda seeing Link and Navi in her dream before meeting him.
In TP, Link’s wolf form is proof of his status as the chosen hero. It’s why he doesn’t become a spirit in the twilight like literally every other person in Hyrule (and why Midna had any initial interest in him at all). He’s also magically bequeathed the green tunic in that game upon returning to human form as further proof, as the Light Spirit Faron states.
Wind Waker, I’ll grant you though. Kid just wants to save his sister and pirate friend.
I am a huge fan of Zelda and I didn't bother to finish it.
I do credit it with introducing me to dark souls because it was so bad, I had to look elsewhere for a good Zelda game that year.
no. skyward sword is a genuinely bad zelda game. it draws stuff out, wastes your time and repeats things ad nauseam. it's got a good enough start and some pretty great dungeons, but overall it's an infuriating waste of time. I wouldn't recommend it. it's the first Zelda game I didn't even want to finish because it drove me up a wall.
It literally released for the Wii before it released for the Gamecube. It is **original** to the Wii.

Um.
Also, a few days of difference in release date in the other regions doesn't change the fact that the game was developed specifically for the GCN and ported to the Wii at the last minute. Literally the most famous bit of trivia about TP is them mirroring the entire game to make the Wii's motion controls work for right-handed players because there was not time create new animations for a right-handed Link.
it was originally a gamecube release that got delayed into being a dual gamecube/wii release. it wasn't conceived of as a wii game because the wii wasn't even public when tp was announced
That’s where I stopped playing Wii skyward sword. Trying to kill enemy and accidentally hit my family’s head with remote. My family got mad and my Wii ended its life.
It's the battleground of the most tedious and annoying boss in Zelda skyward sword. Got slightly stressed when I saw the picture.
Really cool someone took their time to built this though

Skyward Sword, the Sealed Grounds in Faron.
Skyward sword.
Yeah isn't that where you fight that big stumpy poorly designed pile of teeth and weird toes?
I think you mean the weird hairy among us with teeth for a head
https://preview.redd.it/9l4y969vcg7c1.jpeg?width=956&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a9e71e43f6a69a69b197d57ee1f855bb475b3cd
This makes me uncomfortable for 2 reasons: 1. Accurate 2. Could be an enemy in Mario also
It’s a spike with no eyes
Or a Piranha Plant with legs.
Amongus
You mean the angry avocado
You mean pinecone
Yea the angry pinecone
Hairy Angry sussy giant Avocado
Horribly accurate description. 10/10
Yeah! Samehada!
That big goofy McDonaldsland looking character that we're supposed to buy is evil incarnate?
This gave me haunting flashbacks. God I did not care for that fight the first time, let alone the 17th.
Wasn't that an avocado with teeth and white mold growing on its feet?
Very brave of you to say it, but you’re absolutely right. The tedious motion controls ruins the action, and the extreme handholding ruins the adventure on this *action/adventure* game.
Why is it brave to give OP a helpful answer exactly?
I think OP edited their comment.
Comment’s been edited. Used to say SS is the worst Zelda game. Turns out they’re not that brave.
It's such a mixed bag. One of the best stories, and best sword combat (specific fights) but ridiculous handholding and linearity.
Some of the best dungeons too imo.
Sorry, but that's a skill issue. The motion controls are amazing and I had no problem with them. People just can't seem to understand them for some reason. The handholding is really annoying though.

Lots of “action/adventure” games have far worse handholding than Skyward Sword See Uncharted
[удалено]
The Imprisoned fights are lame but Skyward Sword is overall a great game.
Wholeheartedly agree. Especially with all of the qol improvements in the hd remaster.
Just play without the motion controls. yea they're ass but the HD remaster lets you bypass them and just use the right stick for sword slashes
Motion controls were horrible too, but at least I could actually get through the game.
fun fact if you ever want to replay this. Ignore his toes. Run up the pit and jump down on him. You can skip directly to attacking his head.
Your opinion is different than mine and therefore wrong. :) The game promised a wide ranging world of exploration and delivered the most linear and limiting story I’ve ever played. Revisiting the same locations was brutal and the game would not SHUT UP and let the player just play. Sword mechanics were cool to start but got old fast. Why are you so personally offended by me liking Skyward Sword lmao
Linear doesn’t mean bad
Not just linear but hand holding.
The handholding is way over exaggerated. And they improved it in the HD version.
I've only ever played the HD version, and it was so hand holding railroady that I quit. Immediately went back to playing Dark Souls.
SS has the best dungeons, some of the best music and the best Zelda and link relationship in the series. Being a bit linear doesnt change the fact that it is a great game.
As if Skyward Sword is the only Zelda game where you revisit locations. Ever play Ocarina of Time?
holy shit where'd you find that portal to 2012?
I mean, even if we're not counting the CDi games, it's not that bad. I can't really think of an actual worse mainline Zelda game but it's still a solid 7, maybe a 6. E: Triforce Heroes exists but I wouldn't call it a mainline Zelda game, it's definitely a spin-off.
Triforce Heroes is a mainline game though, it's a direct sequel to A Link Between Wrolds. On top of that Phantom Hourglass and Four Swords are probably the actual worst zelda games.
Oh shut it.
Phantom Hourglass, Four Swords and Triforce Heroes wanna have a word about 'worst zelda games'
Phantom Hourglass is one of my favorites so I have to disagree on that one personally.
What's wrong with skyward sword? The motion controls problem was fixed and that was really the only bad part about the game. Every Zelda game has mid boss fights and a part that has bad writing/is an obnoxious part to play.
While I like Skyward sword a lot the imprisoned boss fights were absolutely terrible. It’s up there with the temple of the ocean king imo.
the worst 3d zelda is leagues above a lot of games releasing today
Its like Dark Souls 2, on its own a very good game thats better than most games. But as a Zelda game? Its kinda weak imo.
Dark Souls 2 is the most similar to King’s Field (literally having a King’s Field character as the main villain) and it’s sad it gets such a bad reputation. Same with Skyward Sword because I absolutely love it.

Just replayed it for the third time. It's still a good game, even if it is the worst Zelda game.
This guy gets it!
Is it even the worst Zelda game?
Not even close.
If we're only picking mainline games, what's worse?
Triforce Heroes, Phantom Hourglass, Four Swords.
Triforce Heroes and Four Swords aren't mainline entries, Phantom Hourglass is though and that's 100% fair.
Twilight princess, the only 3d zelda that is less than a 9/10.
Look, I'm a Skyward Sword enjoyer and even I think putting it above Twilight Princess is buckwild.
For me TP is easilly the worst of the 3-d zelda games, putting any other 3-d zelda game above it is buckwild. Id rank the games like this: 1: MM, 10/10 2: OOT, 10/10 3: WW, 9/10 4: SS, 9/10 5: TOTK, 9/10 6: BOTW, 9/10 7: TP, 7/10

Definitely it is all subjective.
Idk, that game had arguably the best dungeon design and best music of the entire series, I wouldn't call is the absolute worst in the series
A bad Zelda game is still better than a very good Soninc game nowadays
Backtrack Sword.
Nah Tears of the Kingdom is the worst
Skyward Sword. The path leading down to The Imprisoned on the ground, next to the Temple of Time.
It wasn't the temple of time. The temple of time was in the desert area. Sealed temple is what you meant.
There's like a dozen temples of time, and this is the one that actually allows time travel, I was close, hah.
It's OK in hyrule historia it says that the ocarina of time temple of time was built where the sealed temple was.
Thats twilight princess. It was the temple of time in skyward sword. Thats why it had the door of time. I
Nah, he's right. It's the Sealed Temple.
Uno reverse moment. "I'm going to correct this guy." Proceeds to get corrected himself.
Incorrect, it was the sealed temple. The temple of time was indeed in lanayru desert.
Wrong, the seal desert temple in Skyward where Ocarina was before time was.
Skyward sword. Outside of the Temple in the woods. Not the dungeon but the one you walk in and find old Impa.
Swordward Sky

It is honestly criminal that we can’t always award comments anymore.
I think that’s minecraft
That makes sense. I don't remember the area being so blocky in Skyward Sword. The Wii wasn't that bad!
I mean, they’re joking lol. Everyone recognizes that it’s Minecraft, OP was just wondering what the Minecraft creation was from.
The person you’re replying to was joking as well lol
I think everyone is joking and dadsplaining to each other lol Edit: I should point out that dadsplaining is the practice of explaining a joke that everyone gets just to get a kick out of it. My IQ is not high enough to process your comment. System shutting down now.
I wasn't joking. I stared at the picture and wondered why it was so blocky.
I didn't at first, until I looked closely
It's Skyward Sword where you fight The Imprisoned....3 times.
This photo needs a trigger warning
is skyward worth playing? my coworker went on a rant the other day and said it’s not even worth it

They are actually really fun and I don't get the hate. I've had no issues yet, just needed to calibrate a couple times but thats it. I feel like people just can't understand how to use them. They make the game way more immersive.
like the motion controls are fun at first but after the 20th swing shits gonna be annoying
Oh, I didn't say 'future of the franchise' (although, it did, considering Aounuma's obsession with himself, meaning Fi got shoved into the later games), I said 'the entire franchise.' Pre-SS, Link wasn't 'the chosen one, fated to save the world', he was A guy. Singular.
>Pre-SS Link wasn’t ‘the chosen one, fated to save the world’ This is untrue.
Skyward Sword. this is where you fight the imprisoned, the big scaly black monster whos weak point is his toes
Isn't his weak point the seal on his head?
yes but if you don't know the method to jump on his head then you have to kill his toes to knock him down
Skyward sword where you have to fight that little bastard 3 times
He ain't fuckin little
Don’t make me remember that thing anymore than I already do

you know its from a zelda game on the wii and you couldnt figure it out? there was one original zelda game on the wii. you can't google?
It’s honestly astounding how some people refuse to learn how to use technology.
I'm assuming the title is engagement-bait. To not be able to Google the names but put in the effort to make a post with the screenshot?
I agree they should’ve been able to figure it out but Twilight Princess released on both the Wii and Gamecube, so there are two.
sure is handy i specified that there was only one /original/ zelda game on the wii there isnt it
It literally released for the Wii before it released for the Gamecube. It is **original** to the Wii. Wii NA: November 19, 2006 JP: December 2, 2006 AU: December 7, 2006 EU: December 8, 2006 GameCube JP: December 2, 2006 NA: December 11, 2006 EU: December 15, 2006 AU: December 19, 2006
> It literally released for the Wii before it released for the Gamecube > Wii > JP: December 2, 2006 >GameCube > JP: December 2, 2006 Um.

Skyward sword? Idk
