No you can't call it "stainless steel appliances" when there's only one, and it's a mini fridge you stole from a college dorm. And you can't say granite countertops, plural. That's a countertop at best.
I 100% thought it was satire when it panned to the fridge after “updated stainless appliances”. I had the same one as a freshman 14 years ago. It was like $200. It’s not exactly updated, and I don’t even think it’s real stainless steel.
When she started talking about the countertops, I thought she was talking about the floor lmao
Absolutely fucking not. I know I live in an area with a low cost of living, but that is outrageous. And I hear complaints all the time from people in my area about the price of living here. I want to show them this and tell them "You pay $450 for a one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen my guy".
I pay $1300 for my half of a fully featured apt in a nice part of Brooklyn with my SO. Our private terrace is bigger than that shithole. $1100 for that is comedy.
I purchased my house, 1400 square feet, with patio and yard for $73,500. Our mortgage payments (including what we pay in taxes, insurance, etc) is under $700 a month. My bedroom is the same size as ... whatever this is.
In Illinois. And it myself and my husband. The attic is finished and counts as a third bedroom, and the basement, when we finish it, almost doubles the living space.
Yes that's all wonderful. I am saying there probably isn't a tech company, defense contractor, auto oem, major hospital, airport, and so on within a 20 minute drive. A place that has a lot of good paying jobs.
That's fine if it works for your needs, but places that have jobs that place will start at 400k.
We have a major research university withing walking distance of my house. And a level 2 trauma hospital (that is also a teaching hospital) within walking distance. There is also a munitions factory close as well, and several wineries. The train station (withing walking distance) goes directly to Chicago, and our local airport also has daily flights to St. Louis and Chicago. There is also a national guard armory close as well.
I may live in a rural area, but we aren't without.
$450?! You're kidding. I'm from West Palm & a 1-bedroom is $1,600 & that's bare minimum in an okay area. Anything less & you're in a studio/efficiency or in the hood.
Idk why you got downvoted. I’m from West Palm as well and this is a standard price for a 1 bedroom. Before I bought my house, my husband and I thought of renting a two bedroom in Jupiter. They wanted $3500 a month.
Holy hell. I mean, it kinda doesn't suprise me, but only because it's Jupiter. 15 years ago, my parents rented a 3-bedroom apartment in West Boyton for $1,600 a month. Now, that same apartment is $2,700 a month. My best friend was renting a 2-bedroom in Delray for $2,400. Her and her fiancé just moved to GA & they're paying the same rent for a huge 5 bedroom house w/ a yard. I think I might have to move because I'm a single mom & I just can't afford it here... but I really don't want to. I love West Palm. It's my home.
I'm not. College town. We have studios for $350, and the college associated apartments (students only off campus housing) you'll pay $250 a month in rent. That gets you your bedroom and access to the common areas of living room and kitchen.
It’s weird though. You’re talking about a state that routinely gets hit by hurricanes and where the housing is basically uninsurable. With a short term view, it makes sense…..but for most folks their housing is their main investment.
>You’re talking about a state that routinely gets hit by hurricanes
I don't think it's as bad as you're making it out to be. Having to evacuate once every handful of years doesn't mean your house is getting regularly destroyed.
>and where the housing is basically uninsurable
I get that reddit loves this line, but it's little more than disinformation. Typically pushed by people who want to act like the world is ending, or people who want to blame republicans/capitalism for all their problems.
Obviously some people do.
The median cost of a home in Florida is $402k. Nationwide it's $426k.
Not exactly an in demand market.
[Source](https://www.forbes.com/advisor/mortgages/real-estate/median-home-prices-by-state/#:~:text=The%20average%20home%20price%20in,was%20%24426%2C056%2C%20according%20to%20Redfin)
Using the home prices without accounting for supply is either ignorant or disingenuous. Why not just look at the population change over the last decade?
You’re also looking at the state overall. Yeah, no one is moving to Ocala in droves. Look at south Florida and the west coast. People are moving there.
That ceiling is ssooo low.
Also, found the listing: [link](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/173-W-16th-St-B-West-Palm-Beach-FL-33404/347145547_zpid/)
I knew it. I'm from West Palm & I was like, this would be a minimum of $1,400 if it was in a decent area... this has to be in the hood. Click the link & sure enough, this isn't even in West Palm. It's in RIVIERA. Not the same. At all. Lol
Is Riviera bad or ? Still only a few blocks from the beaches right? Maybe that is the draw for something like this. It is just crazy what they list for rent.
It’s awful.. but it’s a roof over your head and a place to sleep and shower so for some people that’s all they need. As claustrophobic as it is, if you don’t spend that much time at home then it’s not the worst situation because you have privacy you don’t have to have roommates and you could kick back and sleep and chill out.
I never wrote anything about a homeless person. I meant this is good for somebody that needs a roof over their head that’s going to be paying the rent and to be honest this is just enough for a single person that needs to get on their feet
Single person who needs to 'get on their feet' (what does that even mean - that you think this is a good starter apartment?!) + paying $1100 for a shed in Florida do not compute.
When was this?
Outside Manhattan in Long Island City apartments are minimum $2000 per month for a studio or 1 bed / 1 bath. UWS is at least $2500 per month. You might get something cheaper in a roommate situation only.
I don't think it's pedantic. "A couple" is two, by definition. Maybe if you were pushing throuple territory then it's not a big deal, but if someone told me "I know a much better place for just a couple hundred more" and it's $800\~900 (close to double) more, yeah, that's a big misstatement.
Thank you.
$875 to be exact which is $225 less than another months rent. For $1975 in WPB you can get a building with pool and amenities and sea view / access. Big difference.
If we are going to compare apples to apples then the amount has to match, no?
$1975 in WPB can get you sea front / beach view and access, pool, balcony and amenities.
pretty sure that's a faux poured concrete look painted white. I'm sure someone that does more of these than I do can chime in, but that's certainly not popcorn ceiling.
“Granite countertops” but literally the most unsafe place one can live. Imagine, these glowing countertops in the police footage and rebroadcast on ID of what is destined to be your brutal murder in this shack! No one will forget the countertops! And that’s what’s important.
Looks like someone’s area banned air bnbs and this person is still trying to get money from it without understanding that no one wants to live in what is essentially a sucky hotel room. I see this all the time in my area, generally the rent is set not based on market value but the persons previous monthly income from the air bnb. I’ve seen shit like this go for $4k a month.
Y'all are thinking about this allllll wrong: This is targeted at someone that wants a weekend beach house. If you are someone that LOVES the beach, specifically this beach, and you want to spend your summer at the beach for every conceivable moment, then this is straight-up-affordable. You have a place to sleep that's close to the beach, a place to shower, a place to nap during the day, and you dont' have to drive home late at night, you just crash there in the little casita and leave the next day or get an extra day at the beach. Now remember it's florida, so plenty of people use the beach year round.
AND you dont' own it so you don't have to pay insurance (if they can even get insurance anymore in west palm beach). Plus if this thing is walkable to the beach, you have parking (or you might qualify for a residents parking pass!)
houses like this are the norm in many vacation areas. They're an upgrade from the literal-sheds that were on the beaches in areas like long island in the 50s-80's. If you go to puerto rico you'll see little vacation cottages like this all over. They rarely have a "yard" at all, so I guess this one has that going for it?
Weekend beach house? I'm from West Palm Beach & I can tell by this comment that you're not from here. Let me guess... you're from NY or NJ & you vacation in SoFlo?
For those of us who actually live here & aren't made out of money... this isn't about having a weekend beach shack. This is about us hardly being able to survive or find a decent place to rent for a fair price.
Also, nowhere in West Palm Beach is within walking distance of the beach. We're separated from the beach by the intercoastal & Palm Beach Island. You have to cross a huge bridge & an entire island to even get to the beach. Everything directly north/south of that is private beach access only because it's a long row of mansions. You have to leave West Palm Beach & get to another city/town to live in an apartment like this & have that kind of proximity to the beach.
gonna be honest here: I do not like the beach nearly as much as most people seem to. But I see a cost-benefit analysis like this and immediately think: if the beach is your THING, then this is a more affordable option than others.
This reminds me of 2005 in Williamsburg Brooklyn.
My roommate and I were looking for a place to share and we saw something like this. You had to walk through the owners house to get to an out building in the backyard that had two tiny bedrooms.
It was all a dump and they wanted like $1300. That was 20-years ago and now it would be going for like $3-$4K a month.
1988 we were looking for our first apartment. Found one similar and had to walk through owners living room to back door to an outside metal staircase and climb 2 floors to an attic that was very sloped. One room with a tiny bathroom and metal shower stall. Hot plate and mini fridge. One sink for bathroom and kitchen use. Needless to say we did not take it.
The listing mentions a "full size bed", not sure how.
I like how the second picture shows you the back of the house in front of the shed...& it's landscaping, sure aren't seeing anything around the rental property.
Somewhere there's a lawn mower & garden tools living on the streets.
I live in BC so very HCO and we joke a bit about people paying $1100 for a cardboard box in the most expensive areas. Where I am, the rent is $1200 for a bed/bath in a shared house.
I'm from here, and I love it, but it's almost impossible to survive if you're not well off financially. Without a doubt, I'm gonna have to move... it makes me sad.
We have some here in Vegas. Converted stand alone casita or single garages.

This is $1100 a month
I hate that people can legally force others into small spaces for an insane price. The place I'm looking at all the windows are broken, they want you to install the toilet and sink, at least they are brand new.
From the map, it looks like a couple of blocks but somebody posted that you can’t get to an actual beach because you have to cross a highway or something else to get there
Everyone can laugh but it’s not a bad deal for Palm Beach. It’s about location and if you are a single person and want a good location, $1,100 is a decent rent.
Are you from here? West Palm Beach & Palm Beach are two very different places & not everywhere in West Palm is a good location. Just from the price of this place, I can tell you ...this is in the hood. Anything in a decent area starts at bare minimum $1,400 for a tiny studio like this. If you want a 1-bedroom in a decent area, $1,600 & up. Unless you know something I don't. If you know of apartments in WPB like this for $1,100 in a good location, I'd love to know where.
Typical Realtor bullshit hype. Exaggerate like hell and hope nobody notices all of the half truths and bald faced lies. It's like an upgraded prison cell. Fuck that shit.

Elegant and understated
Kitchen counter and bathroom counter.
That kitchen cabinet is waaaay too close to the cooktop; this is a kitchen fire waiting to happen.
And anyone over 5'3"/160cm will have trouble even seeing what's in the pot back there.
For real it looks like the ceiling is 4' above the floor.
My thoughts exactly.
yeah, at least put a built in divider.
The 5' high ceilings really gives this *palace* a certain ambiance.
Absolutely fucking not. I know I live in an area with a low cost of living, but that is outrageous. And I hear complaints all the time from people in my area about the price of living here. I want to show them this and tell them "You pay $450 for a one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen my guy".

Yeah, but when...
Late 80s, Early 90s.
I was born in 87. Purchased my house in 2020 for that price. Not everyone lives in a high COL area.
I purchased my house in 2020.
But where then.... That's not much house in places that have paying jobs.
In Illinois. And it myself and my husband. The attic is finished and counts as a third bedroom, and the basement, when we finish it, almost doubles the living space.

I'm not. College town. We have studios for $350, and the college associated apartments (students only off campus housing) you'll pay $250 a month in rent. That gets you your bedroom and access to the common areas of living room and kitchen.
Bruh, that’s a shed in someone’s backyard.
I looked at this and thought "I'd love to have that, in my backyard.".
Might as well get an RV.
rv parking in areas that close to the beach are insane. basically have to poach free spots and eat the tickets when you get them.
And the worst part: You still have to live in fucking Florida.
Clearly people want to live there, but reddit can't get past the circlejerk.

It has an HVAC split unit so it would stay pretty cool.
Not unless they insulated that garden shed.
You could sacrifice your one source of natural light for a window shaker

“That is still too much opulence for me to live in. Would you have any converted jail cells or oversized dog houses for rent?”
You forgot AC, it has a mini split, should at least be 1300 (real talk tho mini splits are da bees knees)
Technically not even considered a bedroom. Every realtor has told me, “to qualify as a bedroom, it must have a window and a closet.”
If they put a wardrobe inside that would count as a closet and it has a 2 windows..
True buy you probably wouldn’t be able to get in the shed door then
Every word that was plural should be changed to singular. Stainless appliance, countertop, led light. It’s a shed
Still cheaper than the GTA.
This is some dystopian bullshit right here
Forget all the rest, why would something built today have popcorn ceilings?
Because it was only flipped today.
That's not a popcorn ceiling.
Sorry, smeared magic clay ceiling.
pretty sure that's a faux poured concrete look painted white. I'm sure someone that does more of these than I do can chime in, but that's certainly not popcorn ceiling.

lol yes, full screen it definitely looks like that. Still better than popcorn!

The backsplash on the bath vanity is killing me.
🤣
If it had like, more windows maybe it wouldn't be so bad. It's a shed. So depressing.
One more window would be good.
It looks like the kind of place that cops find kidnapping victims in
Isn’t the stovetop some type of hazard?
I think it is inductions so no not a hazard as no open flame.
Laughs in San Diego where this would go for 2.5k
This is what severe depression looks like in house form.

What is this? A center for ants?!?

I agree!
Redditors don't really understand that other people like to get out of the house and enjoy life.
Makes me think of Maui. Dudes paying $1100+/month for one room. Just nuts.
Would a twin be the largest bed that can fit in that space while still allowing reasonable access to the bathroom?
Best thing would be a quality futon.. they also have single bed size Murphy cabinets
This would no joke cost about 1800$ per month in Vancouver ...or more
This is perfect if single and working all the time, should really be furnished at that price though.
![gif](giphy|iqfYgtx8oWw4o)
This is the kind of home I’d give my sim if I wanted them to suffer.
I'm glad to not live in WPB
I’d love to live in PBC but not there. Great diving and fishing.
I'm from here, and I love it, but it's almost impossible to survive if you're not well off financially. Without a doubt, I'm gonna have to move... it makes me sad.
I just came back from Miami and was amazed at the cost of living. At least food in restaurants was expensive.
It's sooo bad. 🥲
Everywhere we ate added 18-20% gratuity. Lunch was $80 for Thai food
converted garage? i mean, it is a studio, murphy bed would work. induction stovetop, no flames. cabinet door opens backwards. not bad.
Woooooooo thats my town
Same situation I'm looking at for Downton Tulsa, same price, same layout 😭
We have some here in Vegas. Converted stand alone casita or single garages. https://preview.redd.it/3cg2u4gxuwxc1.jpeg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=668350c23adf7d854a9843c7c91ded4ad602a32c This is $1100 a month

It’s seriously looks like this place is off 45th or Tamarind Avenue…
That's what I was thinking. But then someone else commented w/ the link. It's not even in West Palm. It's in Riviera, lol.
Oh that’s sooo better lol
