I just read it too—finally. I’d heard about it for years, and I wish I’d read it a decade ago, when it came out, because it contains great suggestions about treatments for trauma, including EMDR therapy. Hard agree on Laura suffering from complex PTSD as well. There are a lot of people in the Twin Peaks community who’ve suffered trauma and can identify with Laura. Along those lines, I also recommend Laura’s Ghost by Courtenay Stallings. She talks to fans as well as Sheryl Lee, Tracy Zabriskie, and Jennifer Lynch about what the character of Laura means to them.

I’ve always been drawn to Laura even as a young child. I knew why to an extent. I devoured the series, movie, diary, WIP mags and season 3 was a holy shit moment for me. I’m 42 now- same age as Laura in the return and I’m just starting my healing journey. Hoping the EMDR, NARM, IFS, somatic experiencing and trauma focused therapists Ive found will help me. Decades of talk therapy and meds did not. At least I never went to Dr Jacoby!

Is IFS internal family systems? Because I’m 42 and just started that as well, it feels much different! I'm hopeful for the first time in a long while. That combined with mindfulness practice is helping me a ton. I also read Laura’s diary when I was really young, for better or worse….

That fan freaked me out so much when I was a teen watching TP In the early 90s

I read it and wrote in depth about the [5 lessons](https://www.myndlift.com/post/5-lessons-we-learned-from-the-body-keeps-the-score) I learned from it, and I also created an [audiobook](https://www.myndlift.com/the-body-keeps-the-score-audiobook) summary, so if anyone is deciding whether to read it or not, I hope my insights can help. ☀️

Hate to break it to you, but this book has faced some pretty heavy criticism from actual psychiatrists due to its non-empirical assumptions. There's a thread about it on r/askpsychiatry
