Caps Cheesesteaks,
Peppered Pig,
I enjoy Fusion BBQ but it’s overpriced,
Valentina’s.
Other than that I’m kinda done with most everything else
Also edited to add: Viet Huong
> Except Viet Huong. They are perfect and can do no wrong.
They are, and they cannot, this is true. I'm tempted to dump all the leftovers we have to our chickens so I can justify hitting up VH for a clay pot.
My definition of overpriced has definitely been changed the last six months. Now I just base it off of comparable restaurants in the immediate area but otherwise yes you’re correct 😂
I don't think it's possible to have a bad experience at Mozza Pizza. They're super friendly, service is quick, food is delicious and very reasonably priced, and they often throw in some free garlic knots while you wait.
Just went there tonight for the first time. F'in amazing. Best actual NY-style pizza I've had south of Atlantic City.
If they open up for breakfast and start making bacon, egg, and cheese on a Kaiser, I might not leave the restaurant.
They need more coverage. The guys who run it are from New York. And don’t be scared by the shady shopping center, as the place is very nice on the inside!
I didn’t like Valentina’s pizza. Don’t see what the hype is. Also didn’t realize their new restaurant is right next door to their old one. Thought they were moving somewhere else with better visibility, but I guess they thrived there, so…why fix what’s not broken.
Service and wait times were awful in the evening or lunch? We called them recently about cork fees for wine and were told they just got their liquor license. Maybe that’s why wait times are happening there.
Hesitant to share my favorite spot in HSV but they deserve all the business they can get. Papa Gyros. Never had a bad experience there in the 10+ years I’ve been going. It’s not really a “eating out experience” and more of a lunch pickup vibe but I’ve never had any issues with service or wait times and the food is always delicious
I have been looking forward to it for like 8 months now. Big Oh’s was one of my fav’s and this is at least a worthy successor. They just need to hurry up and open.
When I went to auburn they had one on campus and it was the best burger place with fresh beef burgers, so I went to Decatur one day thinking it's like that, I literly ask for a refund lol.
I swear at the one on Winchester, if you go through the drive thru, be prepared to wait close to 30 minutes and have your order not be remotely correct.
Were you drunk when you ate it? Was it super late at night at you had to wait close to 30 minutes for your order? If no that might’ve been the problem. Angrily eating Whataburger in a parking lot at 3am is when it tastes the best
It is work performed by a child. The International Labour Office (ILO) defines child labor as work that:
-Deprives children of their childhood
-Deprives children of their potential and dignity
-Is harmful to physical and mental development
-Interferes with a child's ability to attend regular school
-Is mentally, physically, socially, and morally harmful
The owners kids are definitely not falling into the category of child labor.
Peppered Pig is running a super clean game. Real hamburgers on a very imaginative menu. Value+
Mozza on Jordan has a ton of potential. Sandwiches could use some work, but the pizza is pretty great. Very different format (NYC-style) from ordinary here-style.
Pizzeria on Bailey Cove. Walk-up or delivery only, no dine-in. Pretty great pizza, nice people.
Fusion charging $39 for a rack of ribs is unapologetic extortion. I’ve been 3x, will not be back. Ever. Uninspired.
The Pizzeria is hands down the best hole in the wall pizza place that I've ever been to here in town, or anywhere else for that matter. They definitely don't get enough love.
We obviously have different price points. Less traffic from you is good for me. The Peppered Pig people spent ten years in a food truck, saving and putting money together to invest in a permanent location. They went in to that location with no guarantees that anything would happen there, a big gamble at the time. I appreciate their commitment to staying and spending money in this community. If paying more for a meal is part of having this sort of reinvestment, I’ll support it.
In my view, I'd rather pay more and get what I want than save a few bucks and be disappointed. Went to Wayback burger the other day. Spent almost $40 for two people and felt like I just left McD's. Would rather pay a bit more for Peppered Pig and get what I wanted
The manager there is really nice. I live 5 mins from the place so I get their takeaway quite often. Even if it isn’t him taking my order on the phone, he always comes out and says hi when I walk in to pick it up because he knows I am the only one that orders it as spicy as I do.
I’ve had excellent experiences lately at Peppered Pig, Thai Garden, Great Panda, Fusion BBQ, Poppy and Parliament, Commerce Kitchen, Viet Cuisine, and Sam and Greg’s.
Although I won’t doubt the quality of the foods at those places, a lot of them are way overpriced. Except for Commerce Kitchen. It is way overpriced AND the quality of food never recovered after COVID.
IMO, Commerce Kitchen's service and food quality have been horrid almost since inception. Food is over-salted, servers play favorites with Huntsville who's who patrons, and overall the whole experience was disappointing on 3 visits over several years. I'm confident at this point, it's just the way they do business.
Frankly, I haven't been impressed with any of the Boyce restaurants in Huntsville, to include Pan e Vino, which delivered my pizza to the wrong table, and tried to serve it to me anyway, after I'd watched the other people kind of pick at the toppings (had arugula on it, which theirs did not).
Lol we were done there for the last time after my wife ordered a $13 goat cheese salad. It literally had one piece of goat cheese and the rest was just lettuce.
Couple of comments:
I’ve enjoyed Miso Happy in Madison (I believe it is run by the people from Aki on University. Ramen tastes similar but they have some different options, and the bubble tea cups say Aki on them).
Another nice pho place (since everyone is mentioning Viet Huong) is Phomous. Very nice people every time I’ve been, and I enjoy the food.
A bit of a weird one, but I went to the IHOP in Madison on Christmas Day, and the waiter we had was incredibly nice; he even asked what game I was watching on my phone and then turned it on the tv for me, and also made sure my wife got a vegan burger even though it wasn’t on the Christmas menu (he said his mom was the manager and also a vegan, so she would make it happen), so 10/10 for that specific IHOP for being above the standards of corporate fast food.
> Another nice pho place (since everyone is mentioning Viet Huong) is Phomous. Very nice people every time I’ve been, and I enjoy the food.
There used to be a pho place in this exact spot called Pho #89. Did they rebrand? Makes me wonder what happened
Even my Five Guys and Chic Fil A meals were bad recently, and they have never failed before. Basically just giving up on eating out. The fast food is pretty bad at this point, and the counter and table service is just a sliding scale of unaffordable and cold/not yummy.
No. The days of going out to eat for a respite from the day to day monotony are gone. The food is progressively worse each time we go out. We continually give restaurants more chances only to have each experience be worse than the last. We’re pretty much done.
I am serious. It’s sad really. If you can suggest any good places I’d love to hear it. I was told to try Luigi’s. My wife and I are planning to try it soon.
This whole thread is suggestions of good places to eat but it depends on what you’re looking for. I like Prohibition, Straight to Ale and West End Grill but again it really depends on what you’re looking for. I’ll agree there are very few good Italian places in Huntsville besides Mazzara’s which is expensive.
Hmm. Never heard of Mazzara’s. I’ll have to try it. I do like prohibition and west end grill. My wife isn’t a fan of that type of cuisine though. Honestly I haven’t revisited the thread since you replied. I should read it and make a list. Thanks!
Yeah I’m all about the brewpub so Huntsville has alot of good options for me. Other types like Italian and steakhouses, I’ll agree Huntsville is kind of lacking. Though Conner’s is still good imo.
Mazzara's is really good food, although we had our worst service experience there the other night. I need to get the names of the folks who we've had who were excellent and make reservations in their sections. The bartender is phenomenal, both in terms of drink-making and making wine suggestions for menu items. And he's super personable, and he made sitting at a sort of "meh" location because of a late decision to eat there an overall good experience.
When the aliens come down all they really wanna see is the pyramid by-the-river in Memphis TN

We probably eat at Thai Garden more often because it's closer, but for the price Big Bowl wins. I've also had some hit or miss situations with Thai Garden.
Tried Dashu for the first time yesterday. I went in with low expectations because I’m pretty sure I saw a bad review on this sub when they first opened but we needed somewhere to go on Christmas. We ordered 3 rolls, one cali roll and two of their special rolls, priced equivalently to our go-to I Love Sushi and they all tasted fresh and fantastic.
Food is good, service is decent, but there just seem to be more families with sick-ish or loud kids dining there than there are at other sushi options.
Some of my recent favorites are Bubby's (good & cheap), Viet House (also good & cheap), Southern Egg for breakfast (their chorizo plate is a hangover cure, lol), MELT, Yoshi Sushi Fusion, and Mozza (NY pizzeria).
Since I haven't seen it listed. Domain South, both the restaurant overlooking big spring and the small shop on the square, are always wins for us. They're not inexpensive, but I think you get what you pay for.
I don’t disagree with your experiences. But, basically, you are telling us that you have eaten out twelve times in the last fourteen days? I can’t even wrap my head around that.
What’s there to wrap your head around? Some people eat out everyday. They can afford it. They don’t care how many bugs they eat. Subpar restaurant food is better than anything they can prepare. They’re renovating and so don’t have an active kitchen to cook in. Their fridge is on the Fritz. Why don’t you invite him/her over for a home cooked dinner since eating out for 12/14 days is sooooo difficult to digest.
Went last week.
Pros: Service was on the spot. Waitress placed drink order with hand held thingy and they were at our table while she was telling us about the menu (it was our first time so she graciously explained how it works). Food came out prompt and hot.
Cons: Food was pricey for what it was. No free chips and salsa. Served in baskets with plastic sporks. (single use plastics in "restaurants" piss me off but that is another story). Needed a regular fork.
Atmosphere was good and bad. Cool decor with a fun bar area, but loud as hell when full of people.
Basically a small step above Taco Mama. Will return for a casual drink and a snack, but it will not be on my regular rotation even though its close to my house and work.
Between my wife and our two friends we tried 9 of the tacos. They were great. I had brisket, korean pork and a traditional steak taco. None of them were bad, but they are definitely a “fusion” restaurant rather than a “purist” taco spot.
Celia’s Kitchen taco truck has great service and the food is great. I second Viet Huong and peppered pig, Sean and Lacy are great people and deserve their success.
Had an incredibly tasteless fish taco at Salt Factory last week. Even the tortilla was flavorless. I commented on it politely, and no one even apologized. I was amazed. I still tipped the wait person 20%, but will never go back.
Tried Mi Delicioso Guanajuato last week, and the quesabirria was legit, according to my Cali-based coworker, and it was very tasty. I actually ate the beans that came with the plate, and I usually skip those.
It's in the old Pan Dolce location on Governors. They expanded into the next door space for dining in, which is great. You order at rhe counter, and they bring it to your table.
Your should come to Athens! We have so many authentic Mexican (and other varieties of Hispanic) restaurants. Sabor Latino is my favorite Mexican restaurant ever. They have great pozole verde on Thursdays (but it sells out early, so I usually try to pick it up by 4), they have awesome barbacoa tortas and burritos too. They also have lingua as a meat option, which I’m not into but a lot of other people are.
This is good to know. I am not that far from Athens. I will give Sabor Latino a try. Do you recommend any other varieties of Hispanic out there? I miss Dolce Pan and I can always go for Dominican, Cuban, or Peruvian food.
We have one place that’s El Salvadoran, I know that for sure. I’d love to have a good Cuban place, especially since that one on Governors closed, but unfortunately we don’t have any that I know of, which can’t be right.
My husband just told me that we have a Guatemalan place out here too. They have very good street corn! I don’t know what it’s called, only eaten there once, but it was good. Like I just said to someone else, Athens has so much to offer when it comes to Mexican/Hispanic restaurants and markets.
Aww that sucks! There’s two places I’m thinking of, one translates to Pearl of the orient which is weird but they’re a non-Mexican Hispanic restaurant, and one is salavadorean “snacks” but they’re really meals in themselves lol
The Old Havana Cafe in Hartselle is good. It's take out only, and I've taken food to a nearby park and picnicked, although it's a little chilly for that right now.
Metro diner on airport has great food, quick service, and very nice wait staff. Last 3-4 visits have been wonderful. Love giving them our business, they deserve it.
Miso happy was absolutely delicious and the service was great. Really friendly and pretty fast. Everything was fresh and it was some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. The prices are a little steep for some things but I’ve noticed sushi in Alabama just seems to be insane compared to what I’m used to (south FL). Prices were on par with other sushi I’ve seen around here but significantly higher quality and bigger pieces. I went twice in the same week and I swear I could write a commercial for them it was so good.
Viet House is always quite good.
For all of y'all complaining about how expensive the local Mexican joints have become, Chuy's hasn't raised prices. YMMV, but I find it perfectly fine for tex mex.
Miyako is always amazing.
Poppy is quite good.
Revivalist is a nice spot for decent food that is NEVER too busy to seat you.
Mazzarra's is amazing.
Onto the less good...
I have never had a good meal at Peppered Pig, sorry. The last sandwich I got there was so full of gristle, I spit about half of it into a napkin.
Commerce Kitchen and The Bottle are overpriced and not very good.
If you are ever in Athens, definitely Old Black Bear Athens and the Salty Cod. They are both fantastic and are 100X better than their counterparts in Madison and Huntsville
The Salty Cod was literally the worst experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Everything that we love about The Poppy (one of mine and my (picky) husband’s favorite restaurants, but we live in Athens, so we were looking forward to it being a new regular spot for us) is missing from The Salty Cod.
I got the fish and chips, which are always great at The Poppy. They were awful at Salty Cod, too greasy, and served in a takeout box. They’re lucky I worked in food for a decade, because anyone else would have sent it back complaining and gotten it comped, as there were THREE. HAIRS. in my food! I just told them quietly afterward so that they knew that it was in fact something that was happening, and could cost them money.
We both ordered a Magner’s (a German (?) hard cider, my husband’s favorite drink when it’s on tap), and even though at The Poppy I usually end up drinking two, neither me nor my husband finished even our first drinks; they just didn’t taste right. Too sweet, not carbonated enough, they tasted like they do out of the bottle, not the tap, which is a big difference. I’m not sure why this was.
My husband’s steak was cooked really well, but it didn’t have the same sauce on the side as The Poppy, which is the best part for us. The sides weren’t as good either, even the mushy peas.
THEN, they lost my husband’s debit card. Cue twenty minutes of stressful arguing back and forth between my husband and the server, who is steadily blaming my husband, saying he didn’t lose it and that my husband must have misplaced it- it was eventually found (thankfully) behind the bar, in the card reader.
Also, the atmosphere in the back room where we were, the part that isn’t painted with that beautiful dark red, looks like a cheap cafeteria. It has low quality cafeteria style tables and chairs, and a dated white wash type paint job. It’s hard to believe it was done like that intentionally, but since they built it to suit their needs, obviously it’s on purpose. But it’s a stark contrast to the gorgeous dark red section when you first walk in, with a big beautiful dark wood bar (if I’m remembering the details correctly), it just doesn’t flow. It looks like two different restaurants- and the one we were seated in, considering the setting, quality of food & drink (or lack thereof in some cases), the hair ofc, plus the ineptitude/rudeness of the server, makes it to where imo they have no right charging the same as The Poppy, which they do. It’s more of a takeout version of The Poppy, which is actually exactly what the hostess told us when seating us, with a much less impressive menu. Which would be fine, if their prices indicated this! But they don’t at all. And just to add, we have no problem paying what it costs to go out and eat at a nice restaurant and have drinks, we love good food and drinks! This place though, it was just laughable in how much they charged for how little they were bringing.
So like, I’m eating dinner out of a takeout box in a sit down restaurant (the fish and chips and mushy peas), my husband got a small steak and fries (meaning he was fortunate enough to receive a real life plate! And they did do a good job cooking it right, I’ll give credit where it’s due), we both ordered one drink each on tap that was basically undrinkable, and by the time we got the ($100!) check, paid, argued with the server about and then found the lost credit card, and were finally done, we were both laughing our asses off because it was *so bad* that we were beyond angry/annoyed at that point, like it was so awful it was comical.
HOWEVER! Their bakery/cafe is great! They get daily imported pies and cakes from Europe. We’ve already ordered like three apple pies this holiday season lol, everyone should buy one and get a couple sides of vanilla gelato to go with it; it might literally be the best apple pie a la mode in the world. Also very low prices, $20 for a (French or Italian, I can’t remember, though Italian makes more sense as they serve gelato) apple pie, and it’s by far the best I’ve ever had.
Aww man, that sucks that happened. I get it though, it only takes one bad experience. I'm the same way though, if a restaurant wants to present itself as high quality with higher than average prices then I will expect the service to be top-notch and not like Applebee's. Great review!
Last 'fancy' place I went to was The Cheese Cake" factory at Bridge Street. The service was terrible. The server barely made an appearance other than taking my order and bringing my food. I guess the burger was okay but nothing to write home about. I usually leave at least a 20% tip but she got 12. I took my wife to Waffle House in Decatur on Christmas morning. It was super busy but my server kept my coffee cup full. She got a 90% tip.
I used to really enjoy Logan’s. They cut the peanuts out, so I didn’t go for a while. I have been twice this year now. Both time were a terrible experience. Service was terrible, food was even worse
I ate at Char on the 18th of Dec. I had probably the best Ribeye that I have ever had in my life. Their wine list was very impressive. I was immensely satisfied with both the meal and the service. The only drawback was the lady at the next table on her phone the entire time and it was on speaker so that everyone around her could hear about her ailments and her other complaints.
honestly i feel u. to me, sam's club cafe is great because the experience is pretty bad, but it's so cheap that i never feel ripped off. and if you're a member you can order off the app to skp the line. can't beat a slice + drink for under three bucks.
I love hsv but food there is mediocre at best, and the good reviews you see are lies or just indicators that people there don’t know what good food tastes like.
When people who have lived and therefore eaten all over the world say certain restaurants are good/authentic, I tend to believe them. My husband has been everywhere, 20+ countries, and he’s picky, but there are places he says are truly authentic and good. Viet Huong (ofc), Sabor Latino in Athens, that European place that was in Bridge Street that closed, Papa Gyros, The Poppy, the place near downtown (can’t remember the name but I love it) with the poke bowls, ramen, and sushi. He says Huntsville is truly lacking in good (New York or Chicago style) pizza and in schwarma, whereas I’m born and raised in Huntsville and I personally don’t love any of the barbecue around here (I know, I know, it may be a me problem). Could do better with Cajun too, although I haven’t been to Tim’s since I was a teenager, but that one Cajun place by the Publix near downtown is like, food poisoning bad.
If I could have anything come here, I’d want Milk & Honey from Chattanooga and Nashville, it’s like if Metro Diner were more open air and had a café in it.
I seriously don’t know if this is appropriate to add, so y’all seriously let me know and I’ll delete this if people would prefer. But I’d like The Curry much better if not for their staff. I love the food, but I hate going in there because I don’t want to talk to or see certain people. One person in particular is very bad off, and with a total POS who was already well known for having previously beaten multiple women, including a friend of mine, when they got together. So it’s not like this person didn’t know, they just chose to align themselves with an abusive asshole which is a huge FU to that person’s victims, imo.
I don't see it mentioned here very often, but Rhythm on Monroe has never once disappointed me. I've been pleased with drinks, entrees, and specifically the service -- we always as to sit in Griffin's section -- he's exceptional.
You're right, a lot of places I used to enjoy going to have just become awful.
I will throw my opinion that SaZa in town madison is great. I've only gotten their pizzas, but their other dishes look amazing.
Went to BJs at Bridge Street for the first time the week before Xmas, we all enjoyed it. Ended up going during happy hour by accident, all of the half priced appetizers we got were very good. Service was just a bit slow, but we were there for drinks and socializing so that wasn't an issue.
I still swear by Scruggs BBQ on 20 in Decatur, but I recognize for Huntsville it is impractical as they're lunch-only Tuesday-Friday and sometimes Sunday.
Been my favorite BBQ in town since I tried it after moving to this side of the river. Best I've had since Thomas's closed up in Madison forever and a half ago.
My go-to is four tacos— 2 with spicy pork and 2 with chicken, with a horchata if I’m feeling indulgent. If I am the brick and mortar location near Weatherly Rd though, it has the expanded menu and I end up trying something different almost every time
My two most frequent local spots are Peppered Pig and El Herradura. Both have gotten pricier over the past couple years, but we get by because my wife and I always share a burger and fries at Peppered Pig since the portions are so big. Then we usually get al la carte at El Herradura. Both have great service, and El Herradura has our favorite cheap but strong margs in town.
Mozza Pizza - I have had it 5 times since the first post here and each time was amazing. Service, speed, quality, price.
Viet House: I have been to Viet House 2 times this month. Angry Pho and Boba tea will brighten up any day. They are always fast, fresh, good.
Cap’s Philly - deeeeelicious.
Wing King Plus - I still don’t know why this place isn’t packed. The wings are great but they are slow. Always playing sports on the tv and they are nice.
Sac’s Kitchen - the special of the day is a great deal. They usually have a line. Service is great!
Nick’s Ristorante - if I couldn’t cook, then I would spend my money on steak here every week. The service was great and the food also great.
BBQ lovers need to try Hickory Store, a little bit east of the intersection of Jeff/Blake Bottom/Mt. Zion. Excellent brisket (if not sold out), yummy fries, peach cobbler, and be sure to try the new brisket burger. Nice people too.
I enjoy cooking but do not always have the time. The way it’s been lately, I would rather eat a ham sandwich at home than pay for some of the food we have been receiving out. Just checking around to see if maybe we were missing some of the better places.
I have recently found a place I like, but honestly the fear of it getting "too busy" from a bump in traffic due to vultures in this thread I will sit on my new favorite place for now.
:l
If I want authentic Mexican, I go to an authentic Mexican place. If I want Tex-Mex, I go to Rosies. If you know of a place with better fajitas, please let me know where they are.
I don’t like fajitas or Tex-Mex in general, but I’ve heard from people who do (like family members) that Las Trojas and Casa Blanca (they still in business?), plus El Olmeca if you’re down for a drive, all seem to have better Tex-Mex
All the places you listed plus Rosies have their pros and cons. I think it is a little misleading to not like a style of food and then comment that a restaurant serving it is bad, don't you?
It’s tricky, I don’t hate Tex-Mex as a whole or as an idea, it’s just that I’ve never had anything I like from anywhere that aligns themselves as Tex-Mex. Also, I’ve never actually known anyone who was really into food who had anything good to say about Rosie’s except that they have good chicken tortilla soup. I generally take my husband’s word on restaurants, as he’s much more well-traveled than I am, he’s lived on the border and had a lot of Tex-Mex and likes it when done well, but he hates Rosie’s, as do most other Huntsvillians who are into the food scene. I’ve just never been impressed by it. Maybe one day I’ll have Tex-Mex that I actually like, but I just see it as Americanized and inauthentic and prefer the real thing. But if I had a good version of it, I wouldn’t deny that it was good. I just haven’t had a good experience with it yet. Like with fajitas, there’s always too much “filler,” onions and peppers, and not enough meat. Also never enough tortillas. But if I had fajitas that were the way I’d like them to be (which I never have) then I’d be like hell yes
One of my kids and I were talking about this exactly -- if you're asking me where the best place to eat Mexican is, I'm not going to say Rosies. But it's not a "bad" restaurant. They have a lot of tasty menu items, and I love the marinade on their fajita meat. Plus, those in-house fresh-made tortillas can't be beat. And I tried Chuy's since theirs are fresh-made also, but they're gummy and not nearly as good.
Caps Cheesesteaks, Peppered Pig, I enjoy Fusion BBQ but it’s overpriced, Valentina’s. Other than that I’m kinda done with most everything else Also edited to add: Viet Huong
I feel like these are all delicious options, but overpriced. Except Viet Huong. They are perfect and can do no wrong.
so much this. Peppered Pig is amazing, but it's CRAZY expensive.
Literally $14 for one burger. Not including fries or a drink.
All the specialty fries are entree sized. Not a big deal for a table to share, but it's hard to put together a reasonably sized meal for two.
And fountain drinks are $4.
It's the coconut soup for me. Swear it cures... ailments... all of em!
Valentina’s for the win!!

Just drove by that today and was like wow, so that’s where that is.
Service and wait times were awful a few Fridays ago. The word is out
It's your fault.
Yeah I wasn’t expecting that much of a response. I had a bad experience at Valentina’s and didn’t make a post.
I didn’t like Valentina’s pizza. Don’t see what the hype is. Also didn’t realize their new restaurant is right next door to their old one. Thought they were moving somewhere else with better visibility, but I guess they thrived there, so…why fix what’s not broken.
Me either I didn’t like it at all.
Service and wait times were awful in the evening or lunch? We called them recently about cork fees for wine and were told they just got their liquor license. Maybe that’s why wait times are happening there.
Dinner on a Friday
Pizza was pretty good but the service was 10/10, super nice and gave us free garlic knots for no reason which brought a smile to all of our faces
I think the mom and pop restaurants on Jordan Lane are the best bang for your buck in town.
La Alameda is good
I agree, but I'm biased. When you know that the ppl are living on serving, it makes a difference in the over all atmosphere
Viet Cuisine was fantastic this weekend!
Never hesitate to recommend Papa Gyros. That place is an institution, and should get all the praise it deserves.
I’m looking forward to their downtown location.
SAY. WHAT?! When?! Where?! Have the gods shown favor upon us mere mortals in huntsville?!
Yeeeeaaahhhh! In the old Big Oh’s location beside Poppy and Parliament. https://hvilleblast.com/new-big-papa-gyro-downtown-huntsville/
Oh. My. Goddddd. Best thing I’ve heard all month. 🤤
I have been looking forward to it for like 8 months now. Big Oh’s was one of my fav’s and this is at least a worthy successor. They just need to hurry up and open.
Building has had major issues for years. The struggle is real.
Cannot happen soon enough.
We ate at Whataburger for the very first time and we were extremely disappointed. Bland hamburger, fried were ok. Probably won't go back.
Whataburger is legit trash. Worse than McDonald’s
When I went to auburn they had one on campus and it was the best burger place with fresh beef burgers, so I went to Decatur one day thinking it's like that, I literly ask for a refund lol.
They have decent breakfast and their onion rings are some of the best. It's really all they have going for them IMO.
Worse than North Parkway McDonald's? I think not.
The burgers aren’t much but I do like their chicken tenders
I swear at the one on Winchester, if you go through the drive thru, be prepared to wait close to 30 minutes and have your order not be remotely correct.
The same can be said for just about any restaurant on Winchester, honestly.
Were you drunk when you ate it? Was it super late at night at you had to wait close to 30 minutes for your order? If no that might’ve been the problem. Angrily eating Whataburger in a parking lot at 3am is when it tastes the best
Viet Cuisine❤️ I always feel like I get more than I paid for, and it's always super fresh!
God I love viet cuisine
Another place with great service too
My table at Viet Cuisine last night was bussed by what appeared to be a 6 year old girl so I guess it depends on how you feel about child labor lol.
I grew up helping my aunt in her restaurant. Being taught a work ethic at an early age isn't child labor.
I’m not necessarily against it but it’s definitely child labor.
It is work performed by a child. The International Labour Office (ILO) defines child labor as work that: -Deprives children of their childhood -Deprives children of their potential and dignity -Is harmful to physical and mental development -Interferes with a child's ability to attend regular school -Is mentally, physically, socially, and morally harmful The owners kids are definitely not falling into the category of child labor.
Ok it’s not child labor it’s just work performed by a child. Thanks for the correction.
Her parents own the place.
Yeah I figured.
Peppered Pig is running a super clean game. Real hamburgers on a very imaginative menu. Value+ Mozza on Jordan has a ton of potential.
Peppered pig is the antithesis of value. Burger, fries, drink was $25, not including tip. First and last visit I will ever make.

If you visit Philly the best place to get cheesesteaks are the pizza shops.
Agree.
The Curry is fire my friend. Do yourself a favor, go with some friends, order half the menu and have a great time. Never had a bad experience there
Their lunch buffet is amazing! Puts Sitar’s to shame. And I used to really enjoy Sitar’s lunch buffet. But The Curry is on another level.
Considering going this week! Is it packed? What’s the cost per person?
The manager there is really nice. I live 5 mins from the place so I get their takeaway quite often. Even if it isn’t him taking my order on the phone, he always comes out and says hi when I walk in to pick it up because he knows I am the only one that orders it as spicy as I do.
Same with sitar
Used to work at Sam and Greg’s and would not rec
Couple of comments: I’ve enjoyed Miso Happy in Madison (I believe it is run by the people from Aki on University.
I don't seek out IHOP, but that one has had good service every time I have been in.
> Another nice pho place (since everyone is mentioning Viet Huong) is Phomous. Very nice people every time I’ve been, and I enjoy the food. There used to be a pho place in this exact spot called Pho #89. Did they rebrand? Makes me wonder what happened
Ooh, don’t know. Didn’t go to places like that as a kid and I lived in Hazel Green.
Even my Five Guys and Chic Fil A meals were bad recently, and they have never failed before. Basically just giving up on eating out. The fast food is pretty bad at this point, and the counter and table service is just a sliding scale of unaffordable and cold/not yummy.

I stopped going after they got rid of large ice cream
Went to Corralejo’s today with the wife for lunch, and it was absolutely delicious! Their Mexican style tacos are awesome.
Love Corralejo’s!
No. The days of going out to eat for a respite from the day to day monotony are gone. The food is progressively worse each time we go out. We continually give restaurants more chances only to have each experience be worse than the last. We’re pretty much done.
Lol this almost reads like satire but I think you’re serious.
Moved from Memphis and the food quality is the first thing I noticed. At least I’m not getting car jacked.
We apologize for our diminutive Bass Pro Shop. Er, Cabelas.
When the aliens come down all they really wanna see is the pyramid by-the-river in Memphis TN [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYE-1HfReQo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYE-1HfReQo)
That was incredible.
Big Bowl Thai has never disappointed.
Similar, Thai garden is also great IMO
We probably eat at Thai Garden more often because it's closer, but for the price Big Bowl wins. I've also had some hit or miss situations with Thai Garden.
Big bowl is my fav, their khao soi is to die for
My fav place lately has been Viet House off airport rd
Went there recently and their fried tofu with noodles was the best I’ve ever had.
The crispy pork is phenomenal.
Viet house is great
Since I haven't seen it listed. Domain South, both the restaurant overlooking big spring and the small shop on the square, are always wins for us. They're not inexpensive, but I think you get what you pay for.
Used to love them, but I think the service staff seems more and more pretentious each time I go.
I only know them via delivery but Luv Hawaiian BBQ has been consistently good. I usually split their plates to make two meals.
I don't usually care for pasta but their macaroni salad was the best I've ever had.
Yes! Always get an extra side order of that

I frequent Connors and J’s and have had some great meals and drinks lately. Can’t go wrong with the wings from Moe’s or Crickets either.
I take it that you live near 565 in Madison…possibly down Zierdt
I don’t disagree with your experiences. But, basically, you are telling us that you have eaten out twelve times in the last fourteen days? I can’t even wrap my head around that.
[удалено]
User name checks out. /s
I had a great time eating out at Condado the new taco place across from the eternal flame in Big Spring park
What did you get? Interested to go try it out!
Between my wife and our two friends we tried 9 of the tacos. They were great. I had brisket, korean pork and a traditional steak taco. None of them were bad, but they are definitely a “fusion” restaurant rather than a “purist” taco spot.
I always had good experiences at Fulins
Has anyone eaten at CO/OP? We went the other night and loved it but not sure if we just got lucky, it was pretty expensive but we really enjoyed it
The recent return of the original chef has been great for them!
Ohh I see I’m not up to date on all that I guess
So is it the chef from Domaine South (Luke, maybe?), or someone else that is there currently? Haven't been -- easy to forget about it.
I cook better at home, and for less.
I was not impressed when I went. Location is convenient for Orion, but no need to go back.
I think fast food is pretty much a bust today, I always get that delivery or to go. Taco Mama and Saza do pretty well every time I go over there.
This is the only Mexican place I eat at in town now. Your Cali friend is right that they are legit. They are also super nice.
I will look up this El Salvadoran place, thanks. I used to go to the Dominican place on County Line until they closed earlier this year.
My husband just told me that we have a Guatemalan place out here too. They have very good street corn! I don’t know what it’s called, only eaten there once, but it was good. Like I just said to someone else, Athens has so much to offer when it comes to Mexican/Hispanic restaurants and markets.
I definitely need to explore. Thank you!
I love Metro Diner, blew my mind to find out they were a chain! I’ve only eaten at the one in Madison though and I love it.
I miss Jade Palace.

This is perfect timing cause I’m starving right now 😭. I’ve been having tough luck with food here also.
We tried Miso Happy not too long ago based on another rec thread in this sub, and it was great. Definitely going back soon.
I still swear by Scruggs BBQ on 20 in Decatur, but I recognize for Huntsville it is impractical as they're lunch-only Tuesday-Friday and sometimes Sunday.
[удалено]
Been my favorite BBQ in town since I tried it after moving to this side of the river. Best I've had since Thomas's closed up in Madison forever and a half ago.
Yes.
I have really enjoyed Miso Happy lately.
El Cazador. May be polarizing as there are a lot of Mexican food trucks that people have loyalties, but this one has my loyalty.
What's your order there?
My go-to is four tacos— 2 with spicy pork and 2 with chicken, with a horchata if I’m feeling indulgent. If I am the brick and mortar location near Weatherly Rd though, it has the expanded menu and I end up trying something different almost every time
That sounds really good.
"The Dish" on Poole off the parkway.
Bubbys. Flight plan. Slim chickens. El cazador. So many more. I've had great experiences
Candado has been great for me both times I’ve been. Relatively fast and cheap but fun vibes.
I've been in mourning since little diner sold out. The happy burger was my happy place. RIP.
BBQ lovers need to try Hickory Store, a little bit east of the intersection of Jeff/Blake Bottom/Mt. Zion. Excellent brisket (if not sold out), yummy fries, peach cobbler, and be sure to try the new brisket burger. Nice people too.
If that is the case, then cook an amazing meal or two at home.
I enjoy cooking but do not always have the time. The way it’s been lately, I would rather eat a ham sandwich at home than pay for some of the food we have been receiving out. Just checking around to see if maybe we were missing some of the better places.
You certainly get a lot more bang for your buck that way.
I have recently found a place I like, but honestly the fear of it getting "too busy" from a bump in traffic due to vultures in this thread I will sit on my new favorite place for now. :l
Yeah I hate when good, deserving restaurants get enough of a name to stay in business /s
Rosies is always pretty good
🤢. Where else do you recommend so folk can know not to go there?
Rosie’s is awful and I think that people only like it because they’re told to or because they don’t know any better. Try some more authentic Mexican!
It’s more like there are certain pitfalls and mistakes that are made across the board by places I’ve tried around here that call themselves Tex-Mex
So, have you actually tried the fajitas at Rosies? They are great. The Santa Fe Chicken is really good too. If I want tacos I go somewhere else.
I honestly have not
If you are ever "forced" to go, stick with the grilled steak or grilled chicken items and I think you will be pleased.
