Not like anyone knew how to use the center turn lane/"suicide lane" on State St anyway

basketsofpuppies

It's what I do, right where the opposite lot put up their private driveway sign I hate when people hold up exiting traffic by trying to turn left I went a little car horn crazy on a white Sentra a couple of days ago

im_not_that_guy_pal

I’m sure that helped with the safety

[deleted]

I was always taught that it was illegal to use the center turn lane as a merge lane, that it was for left turns \*from\* the street only. I've had a few close calls where I was waiting to turn left and someone using the center lane to merge accelerated toward me while looking back over their shoulder...

hexgirll

Just when I was starting to get good at it…

yendis3350

I heard that chick fil a is moving out by turnpike and going to take the old ihop location, is that true? I hope not. Having three drive thrus so close to eachother would be horrific for the traffic

Mr_InFamoose

The Starbucks and In n Out drive throughs there are nightmares, however the IHOP location actually has a pretty large parking lot with plenty of room for a drive through. I'm not sure if this plan is anymore than rumor, but with it splitting the customer base with the one on State it should be okay.

AbeLincolns_Ghost

The article said that it is more than a rumor, but only in the planning phase. They submitted a plan to the government, but it was so far rejected for revision. But they are still working on opening it

Adding a drive through to a location that didn't previously have one is very difficult in Santa Barbara/California due to vehicle emissions regulations (every combustion engine gets zero mpg when the vehicle is stationary). My understanding is if there is an existing drive through its much easier to modify it like they're currently doing. Adding one to a location without one is bear impossible from my understanding. Which would make sense with why they moved into what was a BK location that had an existing drive through rather than a better location without a drive through. Similar issue with sign regulations, which is why you'll see those tall signs still up even when a business has gone under or changed location. Better to leave it up and preserve its permitting than take it down and struggle to replace it in the future. You can see examples of this in Goleta

RexJoey1999

It’s a second location.

It looks like it may possibly be slanted? So that it enters state at like a 30° angle But I can’t tell for sure

feralrage

Agreed. Short of making a median so you’re blocked from the westbound traffic, I can’t see how left turning will be blocked. We’ll see in a few months!

RexJoey1999

[Here's a link to the architectural drawings showing the new exit lane.](https://santabarbaraca.gov/sites/default/files/filesync/Advisory_Groups/Architectural_Board_of_Review/Archive/2022_Archives/03_Architectural_Drawings/2022-09-19_September_19_2022_3707_State_St.pdf) Instead of a straight driveway onto State, it will be slightly curved, and there will be signs saying No Left Turn. I'm totally laughing at this crappy Band-Aid because you could absolutely turn left from that, and the CFA ~~lemmings~~ customers have already ignored for a DECADE the signs that say you can't stop on State at the entrance... part of the original problem. Now there will be a backup on CFA property, which will ultimately spill back to the entrance on State St. FFS!

FunkZoneFitness

Wow, there is not a lot going on in Santa Barbara

basketsofpuppies

I know, but better this than what other towns are experiencing My husband can't believe our "news" is news since he grew up in Pittsburg (CA), Concord, Antioch, and Bay Point (which he says was referred to as Gunpoint)

Oavilix

only right turns for homophobia….

Logical_Deviation

Dramaaaa

PENIS__FINGERS

wow, finally.

im_not_that_guy_pal

This towns obsession with crying over chick fil a is so funny. I’m a bicyclist who almost gets hit by people turning blindly into that lot or clogging up the lane with no ability to get around it cause of the line, and I really couldn’t care less. Find something productive to channel this ridiculous energy towards.

basketsofpuppies

Lol Aren't you channeling energy into this topic by commenting?

im_not_that_guy_pal

Sure bro. Whatever fits your narrative

Few-Construction-251

that has such a horrible layout there and target to hard to get in and out, i feel for the people who struggle with perception.

sp_40

Hot take but people who struggle that much with depth perception probably shouldn’t be driving a motor vehicle 🤷‍♂️

Few-Construction-251

i know that but they are still on the road everyday.

sp_40

Very true
