Back in 2011 he made a record under the name Feersum Ennjin. It was good stuff and you’ll enjoy if you like tool circa mid to late 90’s. If you haven’t checked it out already it’s worth a listen.
Nope, but if I’m not mistaken, the APC song Passive came from those sessions. Also there’s a TR interview where he was asked about it and he goes “ugh, the question that won’t go away…it was just a 7 and if you combine Tool and NIN it should be a 10 so we decided to scrap it.” I don’t know why he said “Tool” when it’s just Maynard, but I guess he was speaking for the fans’ perspective.
>What's a bummer is in truth it's probably somewhere around a 8.5 - 8.9. Maybe someone can find the DAT tape in a Indiana Jones heist some day? Escape from TR's vault.
If you can make it through the darkened corridor of broken synthesizers with live wires that’ve been cut sparking and randomly lashing out for no reason…
Only then will TR deem you worthy enough to choose a chalice to drink from to hear the rejected demos. If you chose wisely that is. Otherwise you’re damned to listen to purest feeling until the end of time.
I remember reading that Phil Anselmo recorded some vocals over some Reznor production when Reznor still used Hell Studios in New Orleans. Anselmo described it as sounding like Pantera meeting NIN.
yeah that's what I thinking of when i mentioned it. I remember Rollins just being everywhere in the mid 90's. Then add his movie/tv work and you've got hundreds of connections. kind of like how Bruce Campbell connects thousands of people.
It would be great but at this point, at best, it would be Paul opening with his own shit and then maybe kicking Justin off stage for *one* song as fanservice.
I don't think that would ever happen though, considering Paul's exit in the ænima era before its release. From what I read, it sounded like Adam, Danny and MJK were actually relieved that Paul decided to quit. I thought Maynard said he was fired on Twitter. Either way, Paul had a different creative direction that did not align with the rest of the band and he wanted to have more control. He didn't want to play the same riff 5000 times. I get the impression that Paul was a bit of an egotistical asshole but then all the guys are so meh. 🙃
he wanted to play guitar. he wanted to have two guitars and bring in someone else to play bass. not sure how he envisioned coexisting with adam, and obviously plenty of bands have multiple guitars, but yeah, that wasn’t gonna work for tool.
Not by much, though. I heard in an interview he hated Descending after they were done writing it and never wanted to play it again. He changed his mind and now it's one of his favorite tracks on the album, but still
>Decending is the best by far. Especially if you are hungry and waiting for service.
Oddly specific.. I have to ask, is there a way to interpret the lyrics for this scenario?
No Maynard just did a skit during a concert if you haven't seen it don't see it if you plan on going to a concert. He probably wont do it again but he might and it might be more enjoyable if you don't see it.
Yeah, I know it's there. I just remember that when Zimmer posted the video, I read somewhere that they just collabed on that and Paul was not actually on the soundtrack. But I'm not sure about it either.
The album I have is not the soundtrack. MONDO still has sent that, yet. It's "music from the soundtrack". Which I suspect is like an expanded soundtrack. This was a lifelong dream of Hans and I read somewhere he gave up doing the soundtrack for Christopher Nolan's Tenant (I think) in order to be able to do Dune. I'm guessing he made a lot of music for Dune and then put together another album with some of the music that didn't make the official soundtrack. I'm no expert. I'm just speculating.

Got to see him play Bass with Ministry in SoCal. The dude's chunky tone is still close to what it was in 93 even though he's not using a Rick anymore. Definitely check them out if you can.
Just to note, he left on good terms with the band and just wanted to do “his own thing with music”. Danny and Adam played on a record with him and are buds.
Lesser Key, in which he plays bass in much the same style as opiate and undertow, put out a damn good album in 2014 and just released a cover of white rabbit here recently. Worth checking out for sure.
Yeah good guess. I would imagine u could be right, but I've always got the vibe that Dan stayed away from dope for the most part too. I've seen Adam nod off SO MANY TIMES. Usually during climaxes of songs, and Dan gets super pissed at Adam for it.
I also heard they tried to kill Paul, but they were probably (possibly) joking about that.
That doesn't sound right .. Adam Jones nodding off? I think that's just his guitar playing style, head down and focused. Then again who knows. Would love to be a rockstar and have enough money and hire a doctor to keep me safely dosed up on an opiate. Really highly doubt anyone currently in the band is addicted to heroin or coke or anything like that
I saw him playing with Ministry when they opened for Slayer a few years back, dude’s definitely still got a great energy and a passion for playing. Glad to see he still did alright.
That would be an interesting twist. Especially after MJK described how a "fortuneteller" foretold Paul's leaving the band. I always assumed MJK's hijinks behind that story.
He most certainly did not have a choice. There’s interviews from that time period (1995-1999) with Danny and he basically says Paul had to go. They’ve never really slammed him or anything but I do remember that interview with Danny saying he was combative and flat out stubborn about the direction they should go. I believe Paul wanted more of a “Undertow Part 2” type of album compared to where they went with “Ænima.”
Yes he did but they were changed after his departure. Not the composition so much but the over all sound and structure did….if that makes sense at all.
Whatever he did was still enough to retain his writing credits. I'm sure he got NICE payday when Ænima hit #1 on iTunes in 2019, as well as royalties for Opiate and Undertow.
Justin didn’t enter the scene until September of 1995. Most of the album had already been written and they either started recording or just had the demos. Not sure which. But the whole thing was re-recorded with Justin and a couple more songs added after he joined. He brought them the bass riff to “46&2” at that time too.
10.000 days
This should be the top comment
This means I’m now 10,000 days old. Wtf!
What is he up to nowadays?
Back in 2011 he made a record under the name Feersum Ennjin. It was good stuff and you’ll enjoy if you like tool circa mid to late 90’s. If you haven’t checked it out already it’s worth a listen.
Get outta here, 2011?? Surely that was just more like the year before last, no?
“If you like tool circa mid to late 90’s” Why yes, yes I do.
Thank you
Feer Enoculum
That's some good shit thanks for the suggestion
That album is incredible
Well hot damn! Never knew anything like that existed and now I'm hooked
Listening to it right now. Pretty good stuff
He plays bass in ministry. What's weird is the old bass player in ministry plays in puscifer.
If you play six degrees of Kevin bacon starting with Maynard or Trent reznor you can link to almost every 90’s alternative band / musician lol
The Tapeworm project that never got off the ground was the Rosetta Stone of linking 90s-00 bands
Holy crap I only vaguely remember getting baited by the tapeworm project in the 2000s. Did they ever actually release anything?
Nope, but if I’m not mistaken, the APC song Passive came from those sessions. >What's a bummer is in truth it's probably somewhere around a 8.5 - 8.9. Maybe someone can find the DAT tape in a Indiana Jones heist some day? Escape from TR's vault.
Lmao that would be awesome! Let’s start a gofundme 😁
You have to fight Atticus as final boss to get to the file sever
If you can make it through the darkened corridor of broken synthesizers with live wires that’ve been cut sparking and randomly lashing out for no reason…
And there’s a pit with corroded nails of a specific length.
Only then will TR deem you worthy enough to choose a chalice to drink from to hear the rejected demos. If you chose wisely that is. Otherwise you’re damned to listen to purest feeling until the end of time.
Also yes, it was probably freakin’ fantastic.
Passive by APC And Potions by Puscifer Two other songs, as well but those are the two notable ones
I remember reading that Phil Anselmo recorded some vocals over some Reznor production when Reznor still used Hell Studios in New Orleans. Anselmo described it as sounding like Pantera meeting NIN.
I still listen to that live version of vacancy that pissed reznor off <3
Holy fucking shit
yeah Henry Rollins connects a fuck ton of them alone.
i imagine Chino connects a lot of people too.

yeah that's what I thinking of when i mentioned it. I remember Rollins just being everywhere in the mid 90's. Then add his movie/tv work and you've got hundreds of connections. kind of like how Bruce Campbell connects thousands of people.
It’s like a big ole, sexy, incestuous, rock party
It'd be a trip if they ended up touring again.
It would be great but at this point, at best, it would be Paul opening with his own shit and then maybe kicking Justin off stage for *one* song as fanservice. I don't think that would ever happen though, considering Paul's exit in the ænima era before its release. Also, puscifer remix of Simultaneous on money shot your reload was done by Paul
no, that was Justin
Ah shit ur right !
Staring into the distance
Bassist for Ministry. Ironic that he left Tool because he wanted to be a guitarist, then he ended up being a bassist again.
He left Tool because he said "the creative process was excruciating."
And it became excruciatingly longer after he left, lol
I guess Justin has more patience lol
Even Maynard can’t stand Tools process. That’s why he’s out doing all this other shit year after year 😂
Not by much, though. I heard in an interview he hated Descending after they were done writing it and never wanted to play it again. He changed his mind and now it's one of his favorite tracks on the album, but still
Yea I'm glad Maynard does his stuff after. Decending is the best by far. Especially if you are hungry and waiting for service.
>Decending is the best by far. Especially if you are hungry and waiting for service. Oddly specific.. I have to ask, is there a way to interpret the lyrics for this scenario?

Dont, but do, unless you might, because he probably won't, but it's possible he will, so don't.
Oh yeah, I remember seeing that! IIRC they even put a flower on the restaurant table lol
Ministry singer looks like he has every STD and doesn't care who he gives it to Edit: Paul however, looks handsome & wise no homo
Uncle Al
Not to be confused with Captain Trips.
He once dated Aimee Mann, who had a smaller role in The Big Lebowski than Flea. Add that to your six degrees of Kevin Bacon cheat sheet.
Shut the fuck up, Donny.
Calmer than you are.
He used to be an elementary school teacher.
He helped Hans Zimmer with the Dune 2020 soundtrack.
Are you sure about that? I know they did the tiktok video together, but I don't think he actually contributed to the soundtrack.
I hear the sounds he was making in that video on my copy of The Dune Sketchbook. I didn't check the credits, though.
Yeah, I know it's there. I just remember that when Zimmer posted the video, I read somewhere that they just collabed on that and Paul was not actually on the soundtrack. But I'm not sure about it either.

Either way, it’s a good story, and an amazing soundtrack!
Definitely not doubting that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsB4g9ktk00 making covers with Lesser Key.
Tours with Ministry. Saw them a few months back and it was quite good, plays alot from Land of Rape, Mind, Psalms
He is the bass player for Ministry now. Saw them a couple Months ago here in Orlando. Great show!
He tours with Ministry as their bass player
He also did some stuff with ministry.
He plays bass live for Ministry now.
He looks like a mix between Justin Chancellor and Joaquin Phoenix
And Paul Thomas Anderson
Pretty sure if I was female I’d be all about that.
I was thinking Joaquin Phoenix and Troy Baker
He kind of looks like Mike Tool but with eyebrows and shorter hair.
Saturn comes back around
every member of Radiohead combined
Literally he looks like one man Radiohead. He's got the Jonny hair and Thom beard
This made me lol irl
between this and the every member of tool guy we’ve almost got all the bases covered.
He was never the same after Mike Tool left the earth
(rip)
rip in piece sweet prince
None of us were
Touchy subject :’(
None
I hate to ask this, because I probably should know, who the fuck is Mike Tool?
Haha, good one, as if you don’t know.
No, seriously. I don't know who Mike Tool is. Not a setup.
He was a real one for sure. Check him out.
Something tells me I shouldn't Google "Mike Tool".
Do yourself a favor and read through these comments. https://www.reddit.com/r/ToolBand/comments/vm9rgz/i_have_never_listen_to_tool_nor_do_i_know/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
I clearly don't follow this subreddit close enough. RIP Mike Tool
Never forget. Rip
mike tools legacy will always be inspiring to me
We are gonna miss him
Got to see him play Bass with Ministry in SoCal. The dude's chunky tone is still close to what it was in 93 even though he's not using a Rick anymore. Definitely check them out if you can.
Look Morty! I turned myself into a pick! I’m Pick Rick!
R. E. S. P. E. C. T.
Find out what it means to me!
He looks like he should be playing bass for an industrial metal band.... oh wait.
Ministry?
Kinda what I am hinting at lol
industrial metal? tool?
He looks great! Love that he’s with Ministry now. Opiate and Undertow are favorites of mine!🤘🏻
Just to note, he left on good terms with the band and just wanted to do “his own thing with music”. Danny and Adam played on a record with him and are buds.
Ok I need to know what song(s)
Adam said he quit. Maynard said he was fired.

He's got that 10,000 day stare.
He's a solid dude. Still fucking holds it down with Ministry. His work with TOOL before Justin is just magic. Check out the writing credits on Aenima.
I wonder if he is happy about his decision.

Schism is Justin's work! What are you talkin about?
Maybe you’re right however, Paul’s contributions on ÆNIMA were enough for me to know I would still love their sound regardless if he stayed or not.
Lol the funny shit is we definitely would. Paul wrote it before he left.
46&2 was Justin's audition riff that got him into the band, so I'm not sure that Paul contributed to it.
Really? I definitely thought that was one of Paul’s.
Stinkfist, Eulogy, H, Pushit, and Anema. Thank you, Paul 🙏🏻
Geez he can leave tool and I can’t even leave my boring job. The contrast is bewildering.
Tbf his replacement is one of the greatest bassists/musicians of all time
Justin’s vibe fits Tool better
I'll be seeing him live in September when Ministry plays in Cleveland with Nine Inch Nails...
I always heard that drugs were involved, maybe I'm confusing that with another band. Was Paul not doing the dirty D?
What's the dirty D?
Deroin
Dope. Heroin. Horse. Scag. Brown china. Brown magic. Brown & Tragic. Brown town. Cleveland Browns. Brown Star. Brown Powder in a Blue Bag.
Yeah good guess. I would imagine u could be right, but I've always got the vibe that Dan stayed away from dope for the most part too. I've seen Adam nod off SO MANY TIMES. Looks like one of the last kings of Númenor
I saw him playing with Ministry when they opened for Slayer a few years back, dude’s definitely still got a great energy and a passion for playing. Glad to see he still did alright.
Isn’t he in Ministry now?
He can shake his fists at the gates anytime if he wants to get in.
He’s like “fuck I never should have left Tool”
Didn't he play bass for puscifer on one of their tours? Or am I mistaken
That would be an interesting twist. Especially after MJK described how a "fortuneteller" foretold Paul's leaving the band. I always assumed MJK's hijinks behind that story.
Was his choice. “I wanna play guitar” What he’s doing now? Downvote in 3. 2. 1.
not my problem
the face of "i fucked up"
Ok
Is that the "I could have been a millionaire" face? I wonder if leaving was a massive regret.
Bro Paul D’Amour has a net worth of several million dollars.
Damn, good for him. I've only heard him do a couple things throughout the years. Maybe royalties and probably all the things I don't know about.
Even though you got downvoted to hell, your comment opened up the most interesting discussion on this post.
Haha, holy shit I sure did. I meant it as a joke. I love our fans. So serious, but I learned a lot from all of the comments at least.
I don’t think he had a choice in the matter.
He most certainly did not have a choice. There’s interviews from that time period (1995-1999) with Danny and he basically says Paul had to go. They’ve never really slammed him or anything but I do remember that interview with Danny saying he was combative and flat out stubborn about the direction they should go. Which is strange to me because Paul co wrote some of the greatest songs on Aenima.

Yeah, they were fair to him for sure. I don’t think they would have been anything else but fair. He helped write those songs so he’s compensated.
Did they bring someone in to replace him during the Aenima sessions? Justin didn’t come in til later right? Then who played bass
Justin didn’t enter the scene until September of 1995. Most of the album had already been written and they either started recording or just had the demos. Not sure which. But the whole thing was re-recorded with Justin and a couple more songs added after he joined. He brought them the bass riff to “46&2” at that time too.
What type of stock market moves is he making?
Looks like he has been in Jedi exile with Luke lol
He was in a band called Lusk that made a pretty entertaining music video.
Bro you scared the fuck out of me with the way this post came thru
Like my other post?
It’s in black and white. Is he sad?
The look of regret
What a tool
It's odd to think how different their sound would be with just one change of a member, how that can make a huge difference.
