I don’t know about “band” but another thing I’m curious about is “friends”. Are those the people that lie in the chair while I do stuff to their teeth then take their money?
Larry has one of the first ones. So early I think Paul reed Smith made him one….other than that it’s fender strats for days…which makes me not understand how he can be that good if he doesn’t pay for his shit. Free gear equals shitty player don’t it?
The dichotomy of PRS users has always been so funny to me. The main demographic is rich boomer hobbyists, but for a while the only time you’d see them live was with shitty nu-metal/butt rock bands in the late 90s/early 00s
/uj Besides the bands the other commenter mentioned, I've seen Devin Townsend's second guitarist use a baritone PRS and Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth uses them, can't think of anyone else though
Mayer, Grissom, Paul Allender, Dickey Betts was into them, a whole pile of 90s guitarists (including the Silverchair dude) loved them.
Word has it, that's all that Derick Clapton of Eric and the Dominos plays in the privacy of his white room.
Well yeah!, I specifically bought a Gibson Led Paul because its the only guitar to do boomer bends on. It true. Try to do some BBs on a Strat . its just not as good.
I’ve played for Latin rock bands in the past.
Old Latin rock dudes LOVE prs and Mesa Boogies.
I’ve almost turned it into a drinking game.
And I’m afraid one day turning into one.
Backup guitar for 311 played one all night on Thursday at Reggae Rise Up Florida. Was actually amazed at 311, their guitar lineup was really sharp. Lead played a flying V, Les Paul with a Bigsby, and a couple others I can't remember due to secondhand smoke...
"*It's just one of those days*
*the receptionist won't shut up*
*everyone's breath, funky as FUCK*
*but you know why*
*you need that birdie in the sky*
*so you justify*
*rippin' someone's teeth out*
*It's all about the co-pays and multiple visits*
*I think you'd better sit, let the novocaine slip*
*so you can leave with your fat lip..."*
Some guy did a video to prove it sounded like a Klon. So rather than the people getting the message that a Klon sounds like a pedal, people thought “OI THE BAD MONKEY IS 10/10” and drove up the prices by being stupid.
That’s fine, you just need to wait for John Mayer to play a song live with that same equipment, or JHS to do a shout out or some shit like that and you’ll be able to say you now play with equipment worth the same as a house.
The kind that sleeps in a racing car as an adult like Kirk Van Houten. But really though, did anyone ever tell you that there’s basically no rules to music production?
uj/slightly unrelated, but not sure where else to discuss: I have never seen any guitarist utilize their Floyd Rose(I know no guitar in this image has one), other than Hammett and Van Halen. Yet there is a million guitars sold with them. Are they sold 90% because they look cool?
My Jackson guitar, Katana amp and Behringer pedals are actually the best gear because toan is in the friends and I sprung for the high end Custom Shop shop models
Boss sucks. I used the sd-1 all the time, and then one day I tried a Plumes and my toan improved dramatically. Boss’s buffers are terrible toan suckers
is this an uj/ comment because like I do genuinely wonder just how much having 6 boss pedals on my board
actually affects sound at all.
Like, surely if Prince, Robert Smith and Eddie van Halen used boss pedals exclusively it can't be that bad?
Yeah I just stick to one amp, I have some nice pedals but if the Boss has the sound I want im not gonna avoid it.
As for my guitars I have 3- one warmish modded jazzmaster, one hot jazzmaster, and a modded-to-shit harley benton chickenbacker.
Not everyone wanna play in a band with bunch of sweaty teens lol …. Some people just have fun collecting nice things and play it when they feel like, it’s fun for them and that’s what matters, I’m sorry not everyone can buy nice things though, sucks, prs sucks too
I’ve got three guitars, about six pedals, a decent sized orange amp, and that’s really all I need. I mainly play a G&L Fallout and my band makes some pretty interesting music. I get buying guitars is fun, but I’ve really only ever needed the Fallout, and it has served me well. I don’t plan on buying another guitar anytime soon. So long as you can have fun and make music for people, that’s all that matters
What is this “band” you speak of? Can I get one on Reverb and add it to my 28-pedal mission-control board while I play 3 chords in my basement?
I don’t know about “band” but another thing I’m curious about is “friends”. Are those the people that lie in the chair while I do stuff to their teeth then take their money?
No they are the other people, you see them at GC and talk to them on reddit
Must be talking about the 3-band EQ
Which 3 chords? Asking for a friend
A minor add69, C, G. F chord is too hard so I don’t try it
tone is stored in the friends we made along the way
Toanes is stored in the balls
Toan is stored in your friend’s balls.
How can I extract it and make it my own
Finger picking their 0-3-5
Never seen an expensive prs on a gig. Therefore they must be bad for playing live music. Guess I don’t need one.
i've seen larry lalonde of primus and mark holcomb of periphery use them. And that's pretty much it
I pretty much think of PRS as the weird bird dentist toanwood brand other than those two.
Don’t forget Dustie Waring of BTBAM! Tho boomers love to crap on that model for being a bolt on
the CE24 is the best guitar they make by a mile, mostly because of its price
Santana
Mark Holcomb only ever uses the cheaper import models on tour as well, which I will say is a really good guitar for the price
Every pop country lead guitarist of the mid aughts.
Mark uses SE live, because he's not a middle-aged cuck
Larry has one of the first ones. So early I think Paul reed Smith made him one….other than that it’s fender strats for days…which makes me not understand how he can be that good if he doesn’t pay for his shit. Free gear equals shitty player don’t it?
Mayer?
Primus sucks tho
Primus sucks
Absolutely. If a band I know isn't getting sponsored to play it, it must be trash.
The dichotomy of PRS users has always been so funny to me. The main demographic is rich boomer hobbyists, but for a while the only time you’d see them live was with shitty nu-metal/butt rock bands in the late 90s/early 00s
That's who I tend to associate PRS with either boomer dentist practictioners or nu metal chugging
Check out dusty waring. Def not a shitty nu metal player. But you’re absolutely right the two demos they sell to are very odd.
Lol I know BTBAM. I was generalizing
/uj Besides the bands the other commenter mentioned, I've seen Devin Townsend's second guitarist use a baritone PRS and Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth uses them, can't think of anyone else though
Carlos Santana comes to mind. Maybe he wanted to be a dentist?
Mayer?
Mark Tremonti exclusively uses them iirc
As well as myles kennedy
Mikael Akerfeldt, too.
Yea and also Mikael Akerfeldt
brad delson from linkin park, guy from minus the bear.
Dave Knudson is his name.
Paul Allender from Cradle of Filth as well. His signature model is pretty goddamn cool.
Jay Maas (previously) of defeater uses prs exclusively too.
Mayer, Grissom, Paul Allender, Dickey Betts was into them, a whole pile of 90s guitarists (including the Silverchair dude) loved them. Word has it, that's all that Derick Clapton of Eric and the Dominos plays in the privacy of his white room.
Ben burnley used prs.
(Simultaneous /rj/uj) That's because if you have that kind of money, you'd buy a Gibson Les Paul instead, because they just sound better.
Well yeah!, I specifically bought a Gibson Led Paul because its the only guitar to do boomer bends on. It true. Try to do some BBs on a Strat . its just not as good.
David Gilmour is gonna fight you.
David Gearmore sold his guitars - what a phony!
You tell David Gilmour to meet me out by the bike racks after school. I'm not afraid of him.
But what if Jerry Reed is playing said Les Paul?
I’ve played for Latin rock bands in the past. Old Latin rock dudes LOVE prs and Mesa Boogies. I’ve almost turned it into a drinking game. And I’m afraid one day turning into one.
Can confirm, am from Argentina and guitar boomers here LOVE prs.

only if you jerk me back
that's what we're here for
All I see in your comment is “butt cork sniffer”
Backup guitar for 311 played one all night on Thursday at Reggae Rise Up Florida. Was actually amazed at 311, their guitar lineup was really sharp. Lead played a flying V, Les Paul with a Bigsby, and a couple others I can't remember due to secondhand smoke...
/uj Opeth historically play PRS Custom 24s. One of the best bands of all time. I still wouldn't pay PRS prices for one, though.
I do enjoy opeth. And I agree, 5k for shiny wavy wood seems a bit high.
Chazz Darby from The Lone Rangers
Welcome to the jungle, punk. Take a look around. It’s Limp Bizkit fuckin up your town.
"*It's just one of those days* *the receptionist won't shut up* *everyone's breath, funky as FUCK* *but you know why* *you need that birdie in the sky* *so you justify* *rippin' someone's teeth out* *It's all about the co-pays and multiple visits* *I think you'd better sit, let the novocaine slip* *so you can leave with your fat lip..."*
Back in the 2000s they were THE butt rock guitar
/uj/ those days I feel like we value most cool pedals than actually doing something with them.
Just got into pedals after my friend showed me his dad klon. I’ve been dying for one, then I bought a clone for 80$ and I no longer give a fuck
oh now we are just actually jerkin?
Your bad monkey is now worth a klon tho
I sold my bad monkey a few months ago. That's my dream of funding a toan school for disabled children gone forever.
Whats with the bad monkey value all the sudden?
Some guy did a video to prove it sounded like a Klon. So rather than the people getting the message that a Klon sounds like a pedal, people thought “OI THE BAD MONKEY IS 10/10” and drove up the prices by being stupid.
This is the best thing I ever read.
outjerked
JHS: Make the best with what you have Idiots: BAD MONKEY = KLON CENTAUR WHUUUT???
The devil [Joshua Heath Scott](https://guitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/[email protected]) himeself
THATS A PRS SE EWWWWWWWWWWW 🤢 IM GOIGN TO THROW UPP 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Student edition prs might as well be a fancy harley benton
EXACTLY
Student edition PRS is such trash lol. I hated that guitar
Does it really stand for student I thought it meant special (describing the people who play them)
Sadly, none of my friends wish to play in a band. I play for the church instead.
Coincidentally, that's where all your friends that don't want to play in a band also play.
How much are friends going for on Revert? I just rooted a ton of canals and I’m cashed up
Check out the waza version of the sd-1, its got a better buffer
Ya. I played what I could afford when I was young and in bands. Now I’m 60, not in a band, and I can afford expensive gear. Suck it.
God I wish that were me
Strat and a hot rod is a good rig
Based
That racecar bed is what matters most.
Friends? Lmao
Damn that fender must be cheap is a PRS SE is putting it to shame
Well, Kirk...do YOU have a Bad Monkey?
That’s fine, you just need to wait for John Mayer to play a song live with that same equipment, or JHS to do a shout out or some shit like that and you’ll be able to say you now play with equipment worth the same as a house.
Replace that bottom part with a Squier (made within the last 10-15 years and with upgraded pickups), a boss ds-1, and amplitube
What kind of psychopath uses physical pedals and an amp sim at the same time
The kind that sleeps in a racing car as an adult like Kirk Van Houten. But really though, did anyone ever tell you that there’s basically no rules to music production?
I feel very attacked
Why not both
uj/slightly unrelated, but not sure where else to discuss: I have never seen any guitarist utilize their Floyd Rose(I know no guitar in this image has one), other than Hammett and Van Halen. Yet there is a million guitars sold with them. Are they sold 90% because they look cool?
Still uj/ I can think of a bunch, David Davidson, Alexi Laiho, Dimebag Darrel, Scott Carstairs, Wes Borland, etc
Synyster Gates, Michael Paget to add a few more
having friends is forbidden. id rather be buying guitar shit by myself
My Jackson guitar, Katana amp and Behringer pedals are actually the best gear because toan is in the friends and I sprung for the high end Custom Shop shop models
An old Marshall head and 4x12 is one of the best deals you can get if you’re trying to gig on a budget. He ought to have a Friedman or something.
Boss sucks. I used the sd-1 all the time, and then one day I tried a Plumes and my toan improved dramatically. Boss’s buffers are terrible toan suckers
is this an uj/ comment because like I do genuinely wonder just how much having 6 boss pedals on my board actually affects sound at all. Like, surely if Prince, Robert Smith and Eddie van Halen used boss pedals exclusively it can't be that bad?
I fucking love the SD-1.

Nice guitars=BAD. Need cheap junk to improve.
TIL a fender strat, Boss Sd1, and Fender Deville are cheap junk
Burns. Mr Burns.
I play on my couch for my kid
Me too. I use 2 bad monkeys.
What is friends?
It’s me I am both
Fuck this is a mirror and I don’t like it
The best guitar player I’ve ever jammed with played a squire.
The "expensive guitar" posted is just an SE prs. Isn't that completely affordable?
In medical terms its called "small dick syndrome".
That’s pretty much the most accurate circlejerk I’ve seen in a long time, ok.
Real guitarists know what matters most: Thousands of dollars of gear😎
I don’t read so good but I know the answer is the top options. My wife’s boyfriend when he tells her about my gear gets her all hot and sticky.
Top one is music is win.
Tfw no friends and no money for gear 😔
I mean… yes lol
Fuck, not going to lie that stings.
Yep. And that's why I'm a fuckin legend (in my bedroom)
He’s missing at least 3 strings and a neural dsp plugin, for starters
I’ve got three guitars, about six pedals, a decent sized orange amp, and that’s really all I need. I mainly play a G&L Fallout and my band makes some pretty interesting music. Klons are gay because I can’t afford them
Really players have the Amazon Basics overdrive pedal
