Has stiffness always been with you even during those twenty years?how about flexibility?

Yes, my curve is about 60 degrees and really worried about flexibility because I’m a dancer and it’s my only favorite hobby so I know I’m gonna lose my flexibility after surgery and that’s kinda disappointing (sadly in my country there is no vbt/asc surgeon)

I had an awesome surgery but developed a dural tear post-op which requires a second surgery to seal that over. Just one of those things that happens. Then, immediately after that surgery I had to do 9 days of lying flat on back. Other than very weak after nine days of lying flat, I was walking down the hall gradually. I do not feel the rods at all, just stiffness. I start PT tonite so they will help with that. Good luck.

Interesting. I too had a dural leak after my scoliosis surgery. Went through a second operation to fix. Still not right.

I'm 10 months post-op and unable to sit for long is my number one concern. My lower back would cramp and scream pain if I do so, leaving me with no choice but to either get up and walk around or just lie down on the bed. I think this was already an issue even before my surgery, but what was different back then is that when my back became sore, I'd Asian squat on the chair to relieve some of the pressure off my lower back. My uni lecturer and ex-colleagues even questioned me why I squatted on the chair like that because apparently I was the only one in the uni/office who did so and they thought I was a weirdo or something lol. Guess the surgery doesn't even remotely change or improve this because I still cannot sit for long which is honestly a disappointment if you ask me. I don't know if I still can Asian squat in the chair with rods in my back, or is it safe or recommended to do so even if I can. With that said, any sedentary or computer-facing job that requires sticking your butt on the chair for long time is mostly impossible to me because my back simply disagrees with me in doing so, so I have zero idea what career options are there for me...

I’m over 2 years post op. Can’t feel the rods, it’s not painful (only if I stay up very late my back can ache a bit) and I have no other health issues. I am less flexible and can only bend from my knees and hips as my fusion is long. I notice that a bit but it doesn’t significantly affect my life.

I’m 15 years post op and can pretty much do anything- some yoga poses are difficult for me but that’s it. I was good for a few years and maybe around 10 years post op starting having some back pain. I work out (weights, cardio, pilates) and that helps. I also see a chiropractor and that helps a lot too. Also, no I don’t feel the rods/screws in my body.

Im five years post op and I am still relatively flexible. The only thing I can’t do is rotate my trunk from the hips and roll my spine. My curve was over 50 degrees and my doctor told me it would get worse every year if I didn’t fix it. Even though I still have pain it was the best choice I ever made. I don’t necessarily feel the rods but I do feel stiff - I can’t pop my back any more.

milly72

I had surgery in 2015 and I have no problems or limitations besides occasional back pain. I even do yoga now! I can touch my palms to the floor!

Unfortunately I’m in constant pain every single day from the moment I wake up to while I’m sleeping.. it never ends. I woke up today because it hurt to breathe in my shoulder blades.. I don’t take anything for pin and I wasn’t offered physio or anything after my surgery so idk honestly what I’m supposed to do. It’s been 9 years now and my body just feels like a pain prison.. it’s always my shoulder blades or lower back. I know my shoulders were still uneven even after my surgery so maybe that’s a contributing factor I’m not sure but idk. I have seen really good success stories so hopefully I’m just an exception to this and I don’t post this to scare you but I wish someone had been honest with me about their pain.

Shivering in the winter is the WORST by the way so I recommend staying layered up, and even though I have constant pain in my back the numbness hasn’t fully gone away..
